This looks like some major fun and all, but I'm pissed that Nintendo is STILL using the Mario Sunshine model of Mario. Not that it's bad, but it's just been overused IMO.

Debuts January 16th at the Next Generation World Hobby Fair.

The article also stated that it is to be released in the summer of 2005 (In Japan of course ;) ) and will have a packaged in "Private Mat".

Once again, Nintendo requiring their characters to be in a perfectly good game because they don't think it would sell without the franchise endorsement.

I hope that NOA doesn't pull another "Donkey Konga" and include the happy birthday song, b-i-n-g-o, and "She'll be comin' 'round the mountain" :/

B-I-N-G-O was actually a pretty cool song for a bongo game. You know with the clapping and everything.

The others definately sucked though.

I wouldn't mind a Mario DDR game, but I'm not buying yet another DDR pad (I know, I know... I could just use a PS2 pad and use an adaptor for the GCN). The problem is, the Mario DDR game isn't likely to be sold without a pad.

This is the same reason why I'm holding off from Karaoke Revolution 3 right now: the only copy available to me is the bundle version, but I already have 2 KR mikes (one headset, one handheld mike).

Remember though, Nintendo packaged new controllers with Donkey Konga for hte same price as a regular game at launch, and with Zelda and FF:CC they included the GameCube Gameboy Advance Link Cable

I have no doubt that this would come out at $50US.

I read somewhere(sorry can't remember where) that it will come as a "Game-only" version too.could be wrong though...

I feel the same way about a lot of Nintendo games such as Warioware. Was it really necessary to include Wario? One of my favorite games by the way. I think in this case Mario or another franchise character was necessary. My impression is that it's a DDR rip off. If it didn't have Mario would anyone care? I sure hope Nintendo starts coming out with new games with new characters unrelated to Mario and Co. Same with Sega and Sonic. I want a Sonic game with just Sonic damn it!

I've been saying this for the last ten years.

C'mon, where's the innovation that Nintendo used to be known for? And talk about brand dilution! First NBA Street and now this?

I can see Nintendo's future now... licensing Mario to be in Halo 3 and the newest GTA series.

Hmm, it's not a ripoff... if I read the little copyright notice right on Nintendo of Japan's page, it's under license from Konami, therefore making it an official DDR game, just like Disney Mix was a few years ago.

Mr.FoodMonster

Speaking of Disney Mix, I think its going to be just like that, as in fairly easy steps to not that great songs. I'll wait and see what becomes of it before I decide anything else though.

Lady Jaye
01-07-2005, 04:03 PM
Fairly easy? I don't find Disney Mix as easy as it may seem at first. Yes, if you stick to level-one tracks, it's as easy as it can be, but it has a nice range of difficulty. Unless you're the type to only play DDR on maniac level?

I would pay 100 dollars for this game if it included do the Mario.

"wave your hands, from side to side, it's time to do the Mario!"

Jasoco

Anyone wanna bet they'll include some sort of "Konga Drum" connectibility?

I think this could be more successful than Donkey Konga since the pad could go for just about any music dancing game style whereas the drums are limited. Actually, I hope it does get used by other companies. Maybe we could see a Konami made DDR version for the Cube as well. And more.

Either way, I'm gettin it for the box. Just like I got DK for the box.

I thought this one was Konami made, just with the Nintendo license....??

Lady Jaye

Well, the annoucement names both Nintendo and Konami, without specifying whether it's co-development or developed by Konami/published by Nintendo (which is most likely the case).

After all, Donkey Konga was developed by Namco and published by Nintendo...

Lady Jaye

You don't know... maybe there'll be some regular DDR music too, just not as much as usual.

Sheesh, Nintendo seems determined to put Mario in every genre known to man. And I agree with those above about Nintendo's endless franchise games.I like Mario and all, but I think they need to give the series a breather. Pikman is seemingly the only new series Nintendo has made in a long time.

joshnickerson

I sense a bit of over-reacting here...

It's quite simple. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it because Mario's in it, don't buy it.

The way I see it, Konami would have never released DDR on the Cube without Nintendo offering some sort of incentive to guarantee sales... Mario. If it does do well, perhaps we'll see a "traditional" DDR on the Cube or Revolution.

I don't understand all this doom and gloom that "Nintendo is teh doomed!" just because Mario's making a cameo in two games... one of which probably won't even reach the states until late this year.

I believe Animal Crossing came out for the N64 in Japan. Nintendo still puts out some good games. They go the "safe route" all too often though. People come down hard on Sony for all the sequels on their machines. People don't seem to mind as much when Nintendo does the same. Nintendo has really got to pull off a revolution in home gaming if it wants to survive. They keep losing ground generation after generation.

Animal Crossing WAS released as a N64 game (as Animal Forest). It was then ported to the GCN as Animal Forest + (or Animal Crossing for us).

Speaking of Donkey Konga, DK2 is coming out later this year and will apparently have more recent music...

As a fan of all music that isn't todays music, I can't tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
