I am one of the last people to be purchasing an SP, it has taken me this long @_@ Obviously I am new to the whole Gameboy scene and I had two questions:

What is the best color variation to purchase interms of wear, for example do the platinum SP's loose there coating more easily than the rest. I have seen the following colors to choose from: Onyx (black), Flame (red), Cobalt (blue) and Platinum (silver). My daughter will also be using this and this is important since she damages things very easily.

I have heard that you can play emulators on the SP with a flash cart, what does it emulate? Is it restricted to NES, I have also heard you can emulate MAME. Anyone know how to do it and point me in the right direction. Thanks

I didn't know that some colors were easily rubbed off, and that some weren't. My Flame Red SP (besides a few nicks and whatnot) has held up pretty good, but there's some obvious signs of use. I think you should just go with whatever color you like the best.

As for flash carts, they are pretty popular. I know for certain that NES can be emulated with one, haven't heard about MAME. Maybe you could check out the Buying And Selling forum and see if anyone has one for sale.

My advice would be to pick up a limited edition SP. Toy's R Us is probally the easiest place to find one. It will hold up better in value, especially if you keep the packaging.

The Platinum sps definetly show wear/rub off.

I myslef would go with the black or flame.

if you get a carrying case, you should be ok though.,

The NES versions are sweet as well. More of a collectors piece.

Invest a few bucks in a good case and skin (http://www.decalgirl.com/browse.cfm/2,152.htm) to help protect you little gaming console. It really doesn't take a whole lot to put a few annoying scratches in your SP.

Also, in a worse case scenario you can get replacement screens, shells and other parts at various import dealers. success-hk.com. play-asia.com, and lik-sang.com are all good reputable resources for parts, accessories, flash carts and other nifty device add-ons.

MY SP is an imported pearl pink and it's faded at certain spots. Mind you, I carry mine all around... someone picking it up once in a while probably wont see as much visible wear on the GBA.

The cobalt one (blue) is really nice and its color is more robust. I had mine for about 9 months before my purse was stolen a year ago.

i've got the Cobalt one as well, and it seems to be holding up pretty well. i carry it around places sometimes, it has a few scratches and dings, but if you just glance at it, you'll never be able to tell. the things are DEFINTELY well built.

You can still find some bundles that include the SP and a game, like the Metroid Zero one, if you look enough.

I have a blue one from day of release and it's fine. But I also carry it in a SP carrying case with my games.

Those are by far the ugliest SPs in existance. You are the first person I have ever heard say that they liked them. They look like nintendo had some spare parts laying around and they just said 'fuck it' and threw them together.

My Onyx SP is starting to get scratched up a bit but it's only visable in certain lights. Otherwise it still looks great after a year.

I have both Cobalt and NES editions of GBA. Both are great.

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for their input on my questions. I actually saw a GB Advance SP at a local TRU, it it had alot of strange colors on it like yellow lime green, it was fairly ugly - in my eyes anyway, is this the one you are refering to? It must be since the box had a TRU label in the front, are there other variations?

Actually Toys R Us has like maybe 3 or 4 different limited edition SPs. If you like the retero look you should pick up the Nintendo edition SP. It looks just like a old NES controller. You could probally find one at EBgames or gamestop, used or maybe even new.

I actually thought it looked alright. So anyways do they have a really dark orange or a mustard yellow colored one yet?

Eh, I like it too. Just because the two colors already exist seperately doesn't mean they don't go well together.
