I have so far been using every scrap of willpower i had to resist starting collecting for the famicom because i knew once i started it would consume me LOL

Now i have finally given in to R.O.B of all things. Theres somthing about him that just said buy me. So now i have won a R.O.B but now i have to try to get a famicom, hard thing is i want an original model but they output ntsc rf only and my tv will either only play the sound or show the picture as they seem to be on different channels.

Here's the little cutie i won :D Im so pleased with the condition its rare to see them in new like condition.

Anyway now i have been hooked what do you all recommend game/hardware that i look out for??? :-P

This should really get moved to the imports board. As far as collecting for Famicom goes, sky's the limit- there's just tons of stuff out there. You could always buy some Japan only stuff like some of the Kunio games, or pick up an A/V famicom, but I'd say just buy whatever suits your fancy.

It's really not, I've seen crates full of brand new ones.

I'd imagine it's just like the 3D System glasses - pretty much an unpopular item. A shame since the robot's cute, but playing games with it was a rather odd idea. O_O

Glad you like it, though! Just make sure you don't go paying outrageous prices for those...

I have never seen loads of brand new ones on yahoo auctions, wonder where they are all hiding? Mmmmm a whole army of robs would be great. They could guard outside of my house, hehe i bet one of them could give you a nasty pinch or a friction burn from a spinning gyro :D

The boxes on the block & gyro sets always seem to be crushed to death every time i have looked for them.

Well i paid approx $44 for the complete set of 3, is this a good price??? when it comes to nes/famicom im pretty new.

$44 sounds fine :) I paid $50 (I think? Less if anything) for the glasses and while that was a bit much it wasn't outrageous.

For something like the Power Glove...well, I'm guessing that's cheap too but I wouldn't know. Somebody is gonna have to explain that one.

So what are the 3d glasses like?? thats one weird item id like to own. Im pretty ovewhelmed by just how many bits of crazy hardware there is for the famicom.

I love the design of the famicom stuff, theres just somthing about it that i cant put my finger on. Because i concentrated collecting from N64 onwards all this stuff seems new & exciting to me as most of it i have never seen before.

Sorry if i seem a bit over excited "it's the nintendo geek in me" :D

Pretty useless, since I don't have the Konami game that makes use of them (some shooter or other...should be neat). Nintendo themselves didn't release a single game that uses it!

Oh man, Sega really trounced Nintendo in this area...but in the end, did it matter? The amusing thing is that Nintendo put way more R&D into controllers and different products (Advantage and hands-free, the glasses, the ROB, the pad (Bandai's doing of course), the zapper, the power gloves...while, far as I know, the SMS just had the light gun (Zillion-style!) and the 3D Glasses, but where the NES had Duck Hunt the SMS has Rescue Mission, and of course Space Harrier 3D has been a big seller. Sega certainly went crazy with the hardware addons in Japan, though, not to mention keeping the SG-1000 format alive until the SMS dropped out there...

Maybe the NES had more peripherals, but how many of them were used? Aren't there only 2 games that use R.O.B.? I think there were less than a dozen zapper games as well.

I hate to be Mr. Segageek again, but there was more than that for the SMS...

Mark III Telecon Pack - This allowed for a wireless video signal from your Mark III to your TV. Released only in Japan.

FM Sound Unit - Add-on for the Mark III that allowed for FM sound in games that had it. The chip was later built into the Japanese Master System.

Paddle Controller - Released only in Japan. Was supposed to come out in the US along with Woody Pop. Both never did. Only five games used it: The aforementioned Woody Pop, BMX Trial: Alex Kidd, Galactic Protector, Out Run, and Super Racing.

Keyboard for Mark III

TV Oekaki Graphic Board and Pen - Draw stuff on your TV. Japan only.

Sports Pad - Available only in the US. Never used one myself, but it seems to be a trackball-like device made specifically for sports games (hence the name). Used only with Great Ice Hockey and Sports Pad Football, a modified version of Great Football, I believe.

SG Commander - Rare rapid-fire, NES-inspired joypad available only in Europe

Light Phaser - Never came out in Japan

A floppy disk drive was proposed for the US

Also, the last SG-1000 game came out in 1987 (The Black Onyx, I think), while the last SMS game in Japan came out in 1989.

Oddly enough, it's also left-handed (buttons on the left side). I think I used it a couple of times and didn't really like it, but still, a nice collector's piece.

I believe Outrun 3D is also compatible (although that wasn't released in Japan).

It was also available in Japan (a special version of Great Ice Hockey was released there, aswell as the JP-exclusive Sports Pad Soccer).

There's also the Handle Controller racing yoke which was only available in Europe.
Also, I think the SG Commander pads were sold in Japan by Hori, who were the original makers of them. Sega just licensed and re-branded them for the European version.

It seems like most peple use their dominant hand to control the trackball when given a choice. That's not odd at all, it makes sense.

Guess I never looked at it like that, but it still seems strange to me to have the buttons on the left side.
