View Full Version : World of Warcraft Being Recalled?

Apparantly there was a shot of an under aged orc's boobies or something LOL
edit: (just kidding about the boobies, I was kind of referring to this (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50005) thread in my joke.)
Seriously, I just got back from EBWorld earlier today and was told that Blizzard is temporarily recalling them. Apparantly the demand for this game was more than Blizzard was able to handle on the server end. I was told that it would be re-released some time in March once they can get many more servers in place to handle the load.

Really? I hadn't heard anything like this.

so you're sayig they've produced more copies of the game than they are capable of handling on the servers....
the people who have already purchased the game should be safe, but you won't be able to find a copy in stores for months? that's really, really stupid on blizzard's part.

Stupid maybe but think about the kind income that this is going to bring in for them at $20 per month per subscriber.

I've been playing for weeks and I can tell you a few things:
1) orc boobs.. never good.. Underage Orc boobs? seriously.. think about it.
2) All naked characters have, at worst, a thong. at the very worst, and Orc with a thong. O.o;
3) There are plenty of servers right now. The problem comes only when people think that "HIGH" server lvl means that is where the fun is when it is the "LOW" servers
4) There isn't enough lvl 60 game nor enough character classes to keep people around more then a year. If Blizzard adds classes later the balance and economy of the MMORPG will go to hell.
5) Which brings me to the monthly fee. $20? naa, not in 2005.. worth it? Sure.. Same as a lap dance but lasts longer then a song.
and not to number this, but I play the game daily along with a good friend and we have heard nothing of this.. No software updates, no forum posts in the OFFICIAL forums anywhere..

I haven't read this anywhere online myself, I'm just relaying what I was told by the EBWorld employee when I asked if they had any copies. Perhaps one of our members who are EBWorld employees can verify or deny this for me.

ohh.. so it's a joke off the underaged men's game thing then.. that's pretty clever.. putting child porn into the orc nude thing there..

I highly doubt that Blizzard or EB is going to let their business decisions be based on pre-pubescent JEFFK-esque photoshop drawings of the pedophile persuasion.

child porn
A 17 year old flashing her boobs is the shaq-fu of child porn.

Actually a 17 year old girl flashing me with her boobs is no crime to me.. I didn't ask for the boobs.. I can't help it if my mind memorizes 17 year old boobs.. In fact, I should be happy to see some 17 year old boobs at my age.. "She looked 18 to me.. no ID so I left those boobs where they were.."
Would 17 year old boobs give me a stiffy? If I'm not 80 then yea.
There is a big line FAR removed from human sexuality when a 17 year old girl lies and gets paid to show some tit in a game or.. a 5 year old human child molested on video for deviant freaks.

Hmmm...that's kinda weird. At my work though, we have not had this game in AGES. Blizzard just hasn't sent us any more copies in a long long time. 95% of my friends play this and keep trying to get me into it but they're all at like level 40 now and the game seems kinda limited like radeon stated AND it's 20 bucks each month.....Soooo.....yeah

Huh? Yeah, there's enough servers RIGHT NOW. If they sell more copies then there will be not enough servers in TEH FUTUAR. Yes? ;o
Also, stfu about seeing boobies and stiffies, kthx.
Anyhow, @ Griking: Yeah, I imagine this means that they've had much more demand than expected - that or server load has been higher than expected. One scenario has them winning, another, they're losing pretty badly if they have to recall unsold copies.
It's pretty sad to think that the maker of an MMORPG has to provide way more copies than they expect to sell to fill their servers; in essence, like AOL discs in that they don't expect most to be used. It makes perfect sense, though.

LOW and HIGH population servers. all MMORPG's have a way to tell how populated a server is. WoW uses green LOW and red HIGH population definitions where EQ, for a few years, actually told you, "2100 players on Fennin Ro."
Also, stfu about seeing boobies and stiffies, kthx.
I didn't start making jokes about underage anything.. blah blah.. WoW is off the shelves so Blizzard can keep quality control without any major issues that could keep people from having fun. Blizzard's past online games had a high record of cheaters and hosting server side characters is no walk in the park when 100k gamers get off from work at the same time to log in.

There is no recall going on, there just isn't any shipping. The recall was a nude underage orc boob joke.

I'm no expert on games or MMORPG's (well actually.. I am) but from what I have seen they sold out the first run of WoW and noticed a few server problems they wanted ironed out before it became a problem that hurt the MMORPG persistant world that has the X-factor buzz right now.

I remember a GameCrazy employee trying to use that line on me to preorder Halo 2. "They are only gonna make one run, and then not make any till like March because there will be to many people on XBL and the servers wont be able to handle it." Sounds like just a stupid way to try to drum up sales to me even though the game has got enough popularity pushing it as it is.

Here is something else to ponder.
WoW is one month free.. you buy the game and get a month free on the servers.
So right now Blizzard has probably close to 100k people logging in for free.
That is all fine and dandy unless your game goes massive like WoW did and you have no income to cover the bandwidth because you didn't expect every unit to sell and more then half of those MMORPG Geeks play 40 hours a week unlike Diablo II or WarCraft III.
I think what probably is happening more then likely is Blizzard is waiting to see just how many people pay to play in the coming two weeks. If half the people continue fine, that is $750,000.00 to help with server, etc upgrades.
This is where EQ got Sony's attention, 500,000 Geeks = a ton of cash and SOE didn't get it because Geeks need to have things in working order 24/7 or they go. EQ after SOE took over was bug after bug and workarounds..
Dropped coins on the ground crashing people? Sony fix, "you can't drop coins anymore"
Boats no longer work for 2 years of patches, Sony fix, "pay us $20 for an expantion to let you travel without boats."
New Classes and Uber weapons screw up the economic system over 2 years? Sony Fix, "Remove hell levels and add more Uber powerful weapons and equipment."
I don't even need to get into STG to see where SOE is going to take EQ2 and that puts Blizzard and WoW in a very profitable position even with the sad 3am, "server's going down for 4 hours" because so far, even with the cartoony 3D and lack of refined classes.. Blizzard has listened to Gamers in the past while Sony/MS have never listened to the gamers when it came to their worlds.

Unless you see it from a news site like gamespot, or better yet, the ACTUAL FREAKING OFFICIAL SITE, don't listen to gamestore clerks, they don't know anything for the most part.
My wife jsut bought her copy last night at Best Buy. They are just hard to find, because it is selling so well, there are plenty of servers, just some are extremely highly populated.
Its only 15 a month, not 20.
And how many level 60's are ther? not a whole lot yet, besides the game has been freaking out a little over a month, complain about end game, when someone has actually beaten Onyxia!

Actually the recall part was not a joke. The employees at my local EBWorld told me that they had to ship back and unsold copies of the games.
I know that this was only the word of a 18 y.o. game store employee and not Blizzard but I'd think that he would know if he was told to ship something back or not. And besides, if the game hasn't been recalled you'd think that you'd be able to fine one game store that has it in stock. You can't even order the game from the EBWorld or Gamestop's website.

The recall is true. The Gamestop near my house told me the same thing. Of course Blizzard isn't going to admit any mistake they may have made with respect to being able to maintain their servers. moreover, why would they tell their existing customers that their won't be any new entrants into the server for 3 months? So don't look for a press release.
The game is already going for $90 and up on ebay. Circuit City had it on sale this week for $39.99. If they have any left, I may pick up a few and sell them to double my money.

it's an MMORPG.. any mistake with the version on selves would be patched.. The first thing I had to do was patch 86meg of game before I could even play.. a "recall" is an easy way for an employee to say, "I don't have time for you."
My guess is if they shipped anything it was to cover online or other store purchases. The servers are almost all low right now... I mean, here are the realm forums.. That is more servers then EQ had.

This is peak gaming time and all the servers are up..

I don't see anything official on a recall.. Why do you guys listen to clerks and not the industry? ;)
In fact why not order the still available and not back ordered WoW CE

If it sbeen recalled, then how come when I went to Gamestop today to get the guide, the clerk told me himself its a great game, and they can never keep it in stock. Mind you not ONE mention of a recall. I call shenanigans on this. When gamespot, or a reputable place calls it then I will believe it.

Wow either you guys aren't comprehending or just don't want to listen. All of my local EBWorld stores have told me the same thing. All copies of the game that they still had in stock had to get returned to blizzard.
Perhaps Blizzard felt that is wasn't necessary to recall the Collector's Editions of the game because I'm sure that there isnt as much of a demand for it because of the price. I'm sure that they decided that they would make room for someone willing to pay $120 for the same game that everyone else pays $50 for.
I also agree that this isn't the kind of thing that Blizzard want's to make public if they can at all avoid it.
Game availability at EBWorld.com (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/210351.asp) (backordered)
Game availability at Gamestop.com (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=644859) backordered)
Game availability at Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3132285) (Out of Stock)

Really, what was the last video or PC game that you can remember that was released that just wasn't available anywhere weeks after it was released.

Well thats great, but that doesn't mean they are right. Trust me news like this doesn't get swept under the rug. If they knew then everyone would know.
I have never heard of a MMORPG being returned because there aren't enough servers. EVER
There are even servers, that have a very minute population
I'm not trying to say you are wrong Griking, but your source for this, is not reliable enough for me.
And if it ends up being true, then I will humbly apologize. But I don't buy it for one second.
But I would like to know why the ce is going for 149 on the website!!
And if something is recalled why would they still have it available for order?

It hasn't been recalled. We aren't releasing more copies until we're certain all players, old and new, will have an enjoyable experience on the realms.

They can say whatever they want, but it sure sounds like code language for our servers can't handle any more players to me.

Griking> Look its obvious that no matter what I say to you about this, you will think you are right, so I am just gonna stop, its not worth the time.
You can still find copies, they are available , just have to hunt a little, but it does sound like once they are gone, there gone, at least for right now. I know EU is in final beta right now, maybe you can just order it from there if need be.
But if it gives them a chance to take care of some server issues which some very highly populated servers have, then its a good thing. All I know is since launch, I never had a que, and only once did I lose time to maintenance, in which I was given a free extra day.

OK, with my very own eyes yesterday, I saw 5 copies of the game at one EB 10 at Gamestop, and about 20 at Best Buy. Noone was sending anything back, no recall talk, nothing.
Make of that what you will.

It sounds like confusing information was passed on the chains. That some took it that they should send back their copies, others were told they could sell the ones they have and then that was it.
So it looks like Griking was partily right.
Still, I'm with the others -- Blizzard can spin it how they want, they just want to slow down new players coming onto their servers until they get more in place or find out how many of the 'free' players are going to pay.
