Ugh.

Worm Turn in DOA Volleyball Title [12/11/2002 11:57:51 AM ET]
Tecmo, Inc. has signed former NBA bad boy Dennis “The Worm” Rodman to voice the character Zack in its upcoming Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball videogame.
Rodman apparently is a fan of the DOA series and can relate to the character he is portraying in the game, “He (Zack) is one wild character, just like me, and a bit of a prankster which I can relate to. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is my kind of game, if you know what I mean.”
The game is scheduled for release on Xbox in mid-January 2003 and features all the female characters from the Dead or Alive series, plus one new character.

Why can't he die or fall off the face of the earth? Better yet I'll push him off the face of the earth! >) >:( >) >:( >) >:( >)

Heh, Dennis Rodman always WAS in Dead or Alive. Tecmo's just lucky the flesh and blood Rodman is flattered rather than angry about "Zach".

They need to hurry up and release it already and stop pushing it back. Sponsers or not, I'm getting ansy!

Please tell me he won't be half- (or all-) naked in the game... And that's not homophobia talking; he's just an ugly, ugly man, and the tats & piercings just make it worse.

No more naked than he was in the previous DOA games, I'd assume. You may have to worry about seeing his shiny, skintight alien costume, though. (shudder)

Videogame designers sure love the name Zack. WTF were they thinking?! Let's take this game filled with hot chicks and then ruin it by sticking in a goofy looking, mumbling, acne-scarred, washed-up basketball player/freak. Here's hoping they include a code to make 'Zack' a hidden character.

The headline: "Rodman to appear in Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball."

The sub-head: "Nobody to notice."

I wonder what Rodman thinks of that "man-zierre" thing that Zack's usually wearing.

I hope this isn't a ploy to sell more copies of this title too...

Uh, hey Kaine? I hate to tell you this, but.. companies make games to make money. Honest. They're just in it for the profit. I know it's hard to believe.

How horrible.

Indeed, before this shocking turn of events, DOA Beach Volleyball was going to be a subtly nuanced piece of pure cinematic art and a new high-water mark for the medium of the electronic game, bringing a level of artistic merit comparable to Scorcese or DeMille.

Only NOW has it become hackneyed crap.

Oh well, did you hear about the special controller they're packing in?

Good one, Chris! It reminds me a little of my idea for the Glover/Tomb Raider crosspromotion.

LOL LOL LOL

Ah....Scorcese....now I wanna watch Raging Bull again. ^_^

Still, why don't they get Hulk Hogan to do the voice of Bass Armstrong?

While we're at it, let's look at the Tekken series:
Jackie Chan should do the voice of Lei Wulong.
Bill Goldberg should do the voice of Craig Marduk.
Jennifer Lopez should do the voice of Christie Montierno. :D

I usually just turn on Japanese voices with subtitles anyway....

I heard there's going to be a secret code on the game to change Rodman's outfit. It's either his tight neon green body suit, or the wedding dress he occasionally wears whil riding his motorcycle.

And for the import-savvy (and lonesome) gamer on a budget, there's Ultimate Volume 6 Love Boxing (http://www.the-magicbox.com/game121202c.htm), guaranteed to be Rodman-free.

So far.

Um, Jamie, I meant a ploy to make money as in "Well we dunno if this game will sell well, so let's attach a big-name star to the game and the title and it'll sell hundreds of copies!"

And we all know what happened after Shaq-Fu came out...
