I found this fanboy editorial quite entertaining and flawed. What do you all think?

Fanboy rant? Yes. But IDN is the worse source for gaming news anyway. Screenshots, yes they have plenty. But so often their news feed is either outright wrong, misleading, or complete works of fantasy. So 1)The fanboy made points, and writes for Nintendonow.com, so fanboyism is expected of the medium. In fact, if he didn't write as a fanboy, he probably wouldn't write articles for that site. and 2) IGN sucks.

IGN has a history of disrespect when it comes to Nintendo and its fans.

I TOTALLY agree with this.

I don't know. Everything I've ever seen about Craig seems to make me think he's an asshole. Just because you aren't a Nintendo fanboy, doesn't mean you aren't a fanboy.

Hmm, I don't have time to read the whole article, but here's Juan's "removed rant:"

In the end, having a dedicated game system is cool enough, but saying a competitively priced handheld with great visuals that can play movies and music can't compete against a similarly priced system with lesser graphic capabilities and lacking a movie and music player doesn't make any sense. The PSP will compete against the DS. And for the first time, the outcome isn't necessarily leaning in favor of Nintendo.
OMG HOW DARE HE TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!111MRDOOOo

There is nothing here but a factual argument; whether or not it was appropriate in the mailbag (considering the BS I've seen thrown around by Nintendo and Sony fanboys...absolutely) is a question Nintendo Now doesn't bother to answer. If IGN took that down then they must've had an issue with something else in the mailbag. What he follows up with isn't quite so good:

You may not want a system that plays movies and music, but I sure do, and I think most people will as well.
However, the history of gaming in Japan has shown this to be correct, and the history of the PS2 in the U.S. also has shown this to be correct. All other things being equal, you would like the system able to play media.

NintendoNow continues:

From this point he goes on a nonsensical rant about his love affair with convergence.
Wow, I'm really "sold" on this viewpoint, guys. :(

Then, IGN's "terrible headline:"

NDS Launches in Japan

Gamers sleep in due to bitter cold.
Wow, they go out of their way to hand Nintendo fanboys a reason for the morning being quiet (and their reporter can't report things he doesn't see), and it's rejected as being ANTI-Nintendo bias. Haha.

Hmm. That's all I have time for right now, but what a big fuckin' waste of time, guys.

Don't let Nintendo Now do your thinking for you.

I have no respect for IGN since I saw this one show on video game movies. It went like this

IGN guy: I love video game movies, but I think they should have totally

different stories from the games, after all, everyone knows video game stories suck.

WTF? This guy is IN the freaking video game industry yet he treats it like we're back in the 8 bit days.

Eh. One can't really take either the IGN articles nor the NN rants too seriuosly. Both sides clearly have their agenda, each slapped the "fanboy" label on the other. Check out both the PSP (when its out) and DS, play games on both at demo booths and form your own opinions. Don't listen to stupid crap like this.

When was that filmed? Back in 2002, that was pretty much the whole history of video games. I haven't been the biggest RPG fan but the traditional console RPGs I've played tend to be - out of necessity - pretty sparse. Yeah, and this doesn't say we like what's in modern movies all the time, either ;) I will say that Phantasy Star IV has a good plot for a one-off movie. Medievil has a pretty good plot. Metal Gear Solid makes very little sense. Heheh.

In any case, here's a helpful little guide.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU'RE A FANBOY

1.) Do short phrases on game review websites regularly (at least once a week) cause you to turn into the Hulk (only in typing, not actual physical strength)?

2.) Do you rarely see humor in game review articles, but often see uncalled for attacks, snide comments and rude, unforgiving remarks?

3.) Does any comment about anything at all cause your mind to slowly shift gears towards whatever it is you're a fanboy of?

If you answered no to all of the above, congratulations, your blood pressure level is lower.

(Yes, I know I'm a fanboy. If you think I can't serve myself a bit of humor as well...I'm sorry.)
