Anyone else have slowdown issues with these two in MAME? I'm talking massive, almost unplayable slowdown. I can't imagine these two require more CPU power than something like TMNT 1 and II which I have no issues with at all.

Hard to know what you're referring to.. because the arcade games themselves often had pretty major slowdown. So if that's what you're experiencing, then it's normal.

Otherwise.. if you're talking really slow then I'm not sure.. does it change when you pick up the frameskipping? (f11 to see, then f9/f8 to move up/down)

Matt, you and I must be on the same sheet of paper. I was going to post a topic about this very thing recently, but forgot!

After spotting a Double Dragon machine on eBay recently, I thought I'd see how MAME handled it before buying a dedicated cabinet. I started playing Double Dragon (the first one) in MAME and forgot how fun it was (it's been a LONG time since I played it), so I played it for a while. When I started getting to screens that had three or so enemies, the game slowed down. Like, way down. The problem is, it's been so long since I saw DD in the arcade, I can't remember if the real thing slowed down too!

I am playing MAME on my 2.6 ghz laptop with a gig of RAM, so it doesn't seem like it would be a hardware issue.

Wow. And these games became classics like this, huh??? Oh well. As long as it's not something I did. LOL Thanks Flack!

The slowdown is normal. I owned the pcb once upon a time. I had played it in a jamma cab I had, as well as on my supergun. It slowed down. It also slows down in MAME. I guess the hardware Taito used wasn't the greatest :) So when MAME emulates the slowdown, it is emulating the game perfectly.

Yeah, I've experienced the slowdown on both the pc and xbox with this game. As soon as you get towards the abobo that busts through the wall it gets really annoying. Hard to imagine it was like that in arcades. The only one I've played in arcade was double dragon II and that was a long long time ago.

I have the arcade PCB too - as Lucifersam said, the slowdown is normal on DD and DDII.

If you ever want to get rid of that crappy, slowed down DD PCB, let me know.

Shoot, I'm a DD FAN! :) Love the game, always played it in the arcade, but primarily because I knew I could get through the entire game on one credit. Made the evening's pocket change last, y'know?

I have Renegade too. W00t! It's a lot tougher than DD, but I sort of like it a little more for just that reason. "Givin' up already!" 8-)
