Haven't I been wishing for this all along? DOOM 3 PLUS DOOM 1 and 2! All on the Xbox!
For $10 more, you will get the new game plus the two originals. Freaking hell yeah! It's like they actually heard me. Someone heard me wishing for DOOM 1 and 2. I just hope with all hope they don't fuck it up. The PlayStation version was the best DOOM on a console (Not counting 64) and I pray this version will be more perfect-er..
Yippie!

Consider how well done the port of the original wolf3D was inside xbox Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
I expect doom to play just as well.
What I want to know is if the collector's edition will be 2 disc, or if there's enough space left on disc 1 to cram in doom 1 and 2.....

I can play with both. I find no problem using a control stick. I just hope they implement the same control scheme as Doom 3 will have into 1 and 2. By which I mean the left stick turns and moves forward and back, and the right strafes and looks up and down. Then a trigger for the gun, etc..
i hate you PC, with your stupid mouse that always runs out of mouse pad :)Exactly. It bugs me every time someone praises the mouse in FPS games. It's NOT the best thing since sliced bread, and I can't stand it. So fuck mice, I'll use a keyboard or a superior control stick layout. :D

When I'm playing DOOM on a keyboard, I can get into the zone. I only use the arrow keys (None of that letter bullshit. The Arrows are there for a reason! Use them!) as well as the Ctrl, Alt and Shift and space. I'll be in the zone. Even though with it I can't strafe while turning this way easily, I still am able to quickly slide back and forth to avoid the incoming fireballs and rockets.
I hope the Xbox ports are as easy to control. All I want is a 100% port with no changes.

Oh, it's an AD, isn't it? Well, sorry bucko, Ads are blocked on this browser. It's on Lik-Sang, I've seen that advertised there. If you wanna make it easier on us, place the text in the URL tags as well. That way there will still be a text link.

It doesn't matter what browser it is, Ad blockers remove Ads. Your image is an actual ad sized image and includes the word "banner" in the name. So my Ad blocker blocks it, because I find Ads offensive and destroy them at every chance... Simply put the "Click the Link" text inside the URL tags as well and that way people can still click it even if the ad is gone.

What I don't get is why somebody of a competitive mindset would prefer playing a console FPS with a couple of joysticks. It's like custom-building a car that drives backwards - you might get into Guiness for the reverse-driving record, but you wouldn't stand a chance against a similarly competent PC player.
As for the mouse, you have to lift it and move it over. I've played with optical and trackball mouses of various sorts - no problems either way. Just gotta make sure you keep those rollers clean.
As for DOOM III, yes, I'm sure the repetitive yet still insufficient amount of crawling through tight passageways, blasting at enemies placed ever so cleverly, and watching out for machinery that is so dangerous its whole attack pattern can be figured out in all of ten seconds - indeed your worst enemy is your lack of a fixed flashlight on your weapon, and just having one on the pistol makes all the difference for the game - all these things make for a most compelling game experience. Well, of course DOOM III is a great classic shooter experience, and if you're into straight-up FPSes you'll like the PC version (I'll lay off the "and the original DOOM has more open levels, more secrets and more reason to play it over again" but just so you know...that's the truth).
However, that's exactly why I'm confused over all of this. Targeting flying enemies in Halo 2 is a chore, and there's enough Lost Souls in DOOM III to keep your head spinning for a while - not to mention Revenants and other critters that toss fast projectiles at you. The addition of the sprint button just makes things worse - not only will you have all this fast stuff to dodge, but you'll have to press some awkward button or other to keep sprint on and mind you, it will be needed OFTEN. In fact in DOOM III I kept running out of it. Furthermore, playing Nightmare with two joysticks is yet more freakish.
The Hell area in particular was very cool in the traditional id fashion, but it's over in the blink of an eye. It's frankly depressing to go back to Mars when that's over. The best DOOM III seems to offer from the classic DOOM titles are a few doors hidden in walls, DOOM 1 style. There doesn't seem to be much else in the way of enemy placement besides looking at a spot and thinking "when I pick up this stuff an enemy is going to teleport in there."
Mouse = Point and click, as fast or slow as you like. Nothing simpler.
Joysticks = Hold it down and wait for your viewpoint to move. Tradeoff between accuracy and speed is glaring. In real life, I don't need to use a steering wheel to move my head, and that's what joysticks feel like.
In all fairness, I really enjoyed Goldeneye and its control scheme is still a favorite - all that was done with ONE controller. However, that was a game built for that control system; the shoulder buttons normally zoom your weapon or bring out simple crosshairs. Not only did that fail to be a drawback (needing to aim to get that extra accuracy is realistic), but the auto-aim functions made the few areas where you'll encounter enemies on a higher level than you are easy to get through, and let you focus on movement which is crucial in every FPS - more so than precise control over shooting.
Well. I've said my piece. DOOM III IS great; I respect and even sympathize with anyone who just doesn't like the competition for for what appears to be needless complexity (easily an argument in the BattleField series). However, I still think some damping down of high-flying opinions is needed; id might make the last word in FPS games as far as many are concerned but the majority prefer other, better made games. I'd also say that fans of the genre should consider trying out Painkiller (much as I have yet to do); expect something more along the lines of Serious Sam, yet with again impressive scenes. It's nice to see where you're going.

I dunno if it's any interest to anyone, but the final issue of Xbox Nation gave Doom 3 a 10/10.
It's not gona convert me over, but it's good knowledge.

Showing off your debating skills, huh? Thanks for the +1. This topic was begging a differing viewpoint, and I gave it, Fanboy-free, 100% Guaranteed™.
You're a fan of the original DOOM games, correct? You recall they were made to be played with keyboards only. Again, the same issue, except those feel clumsy with a mouse, not vice versa. The PC version doesn't control incredibly better than the SNES port thanks to the shoulder buttons of the SNES pad, and in that case it's the inability to turn and strafe under the default setup (using Alt as a strafe modifier) on the PC that holds the game back. Again, I'm expecting longtime DOOM fans to be most comfortable with the version that plays easiest, but to each their own. Now, if DOOM III had some sort of real use for analog controls, that would definitely be a plus; it's just that the integration of the world-interaction system (the mouse cursor that appears when you're looking at a door panel or something similar) the targeting system and the high volume of enemies to lock onto (in certain areas, that is) means to me that an auto-targeting system would likely be clumsy, unless they want to make it completely easy to lock onto an enemy's face.
Now, on the plus side, I'm interested to see if the XBox port will include stuff such as the newly announced gravity gun expansion pack (I doubt it, but one can hope).
I also expect the XBox port to look better than Halo 2 does - I have faith in id that they won't resort to tricks like Halo 2 used (and for little benefit). I've nothing against playing the game with smaller textures and in lower resolution, as the PC DOOM III put an emphasis on shine as opposed to great amounts of detail in environments.
