I liked that game for the outstanding graphics, cool blends of sport and strategy, and that almost every character is a blatantly racist caricature. I think it's time for an update!
Any thoughts?

There is a little gem called Wade Hixton's Counter Punch for the GBA you know... were you looking for something like that?

I think a gamecube calibur Super punchout would be absolutely amazing. Super punchout is easily one of the best games of the 90's and I've been feening for a sequel.

I think many people have been dying for a sequel for quite some time now. I'm suprised Nintendo hasn't released one, because both Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Super Punch Out, were big sellers. I can only imagine a 3D Mike Tyson (obviously not going to happen) throwing those devestating knockout punches. :eek 2:

I'd really like to see it, but I doubt it'll happen. I think they used all the characters, plus added lots of new ones from the arcade. In a misguided and bizarre attempt to rectify the already offensive characters, Vodka Drunkenski became Soda Popinski on NES.
But why not make the boxers parodies of famous ones? It's a great idea! Make some old geezer represent George Foreman, Make some fanatical Christian who does nothing but headbutt and throw elbows like Holyfield, some ear chompin', face tattooing psycho bite off peoples' ears, and some scumbag like Golota (sp?) whose signature move is combination nut shots?
Man, that'd be a blast!

Victorious Boxers on the PS2 has a sequel in Japan, also on the PS2. Hajime no Ippo 2.
It features hundreds of characters, including many legendary boxers from all eras....it also features a few characters from the Punch-Out!! series.
Source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/review/R69634.html This game doesn't show up on Ebay too often though....from all that I've read, it's the best boxing game ever made. It's not arcadey at all though.

Woudn't that be cool! 2 Screens like the old arcade version! Hopefully the other screen will be good for something besides just your life meter.

I love that DS idea. But honestly, if it hasn't happened by now, don't hlod your breath. Then again, Nintendo did make a ton of new Metroid games after a large fan outcry... maybe the same thing can happen here.

I've been championing the idea of a "Punch-Out!!" for the DS for some time now.
In fact, I posted a long rant on the subject in one of the DS threads over the summer. The thread was called something like "The DS: What do you want to see?"
Unfortunately, I'm now in the "it'll never happen" camp. This is one of the problems with Nintendo having so many great original games; they can't possibly follow all of them up with great sequels.
Hell, I've been waiting for a proper "Kid Icarus" sequel for YEARS.

I'd definitely buy Punch-Out for the DS. I hope Bald Bull will make his triumphant return...

Punch-Out!! would be awesome on DS... all depepneds on how its presented though. I'm guessing Nintendo would have you touch certain spots on the enemy for punching and such, that would get a little repeptetive and overly-simple... The Punch-Out forumla just won't work well in the console realm, sure Nitnendo fans will buy it, but how man people that have no idea what Punch-Out is do you think will go for a, behind the silhouette boxing game?

dodgeing on the ds would rock with teh stylus, they could make the attacks WICKED fast and you would be all over the place with your stylus : P
