I've had the original Paper Mario since it launched. I ended up playing it religiously for a few days, getting about halfway through, and then, well, just stopped playing. I meant to go back and finish it for quite a while now, but it wasn't until I got Paper Mario 2 that I finally had my excuse. And, well, wow. Why did I ever stop? I love the gameplay, especially since the whole helper switching becomes a moot point when you get the Quick Change badge. Speaking of badges, it was an interesting concept, one that I felt really set PM apart from many rpgs. It's almost a shame that they made badges minor items in Mario & Luigi, being able to customize your character like that was awesome. The awesome soundtrack, the recipes, the general Nintendo silliness, it was great. Even graphically, the stylized look it uses meant that it hasn't aged at all-my friend Rudy remarked that he thought it WAS the gamecube version until I pointed out otherwise.

I also liked the neat little credit roll, where they took a cue from Mario RPG and had a parade going by. That was a nice touch.

I just felt the need to sing it's praises, and to recommend it to anyone who's either never played it, or never finished it. It's one of the best N64 games for a reason, folks. And any game that can drag me away from Halo 2 deserves note.

Just got my fourth star in Paper Mario: TTYD... so I buy an Xbox. Luckily I found my way back, only after about 2 months. Sucha fantastic Game / Series. Really put a good spin on traditional RPGs.
