This game is pure, awesomeness. Capcom has done a fine job "reworking" the series. Only problem is its just not scary... I hope that changes.
And that stupid "Making of DVD" is only 10 minutes long...

You know what I hate about RE? It's something that has kept me away from the series and I want to like RE I really do. I Hate that I can't shoot and walk at the same time. Can you shoot and walk in this game? If so, I'm going out to get it tomorrow!

Nope, but you can aim now. The whole fully 3D thing is really what makes the game so much better. Aiming and looking as well as just moving arround is so much easier... but thats why I think its less scary. No more surprise enemies as your field of view extends beyond the room your in.
...but don't let that stop you from picking it up. Using your weapons is so much easier.

Everything about this game is better than any other RE in the series. I don't even feel like typing it all out...I can't find anything I don't like about this game. As far as the scare factor goes, I'll take the creapy action based battles of RE4 over the cheap scares and slow ass fights of the rest of the series any day.

I Called EB over the phone earlier today and they said they would sell me a copy of RE 4 ..but didn't have many left.
Before I went to that particular store tonight I called back and they said they had none left..(no biggie)
So,when I got there I noticed they had a ton of them (regular copies)but,I decided not to ask...
I went upstairs to Gamestop and they had none left..
Hit a few Music stores on my travels in the Mall and they had nothing(not in yet)
My last resort: was Software Etc near the Food Court that I don't go in much.
They sold me the Special Edition RE 4 with no questions asked....Freaken sweet!! :D :D

File me under the "I want to like Resident Evil, but I don't" folder as well. I'll definitely be renting this title, and I have high hopes for it as it seems like it may be fixing alot of the things wrong (imo) with the series...plus my cube could use a good dusting.

Yeah, me too. But I was watching my brother play 4 today, and It looked nothing short of incredible. I'll have to give it a go sooner or later. Do you still have to "steer" your guy? I just can't get used to that.

Well, I've played a shitload of this game today, and, just wow. This game is absolutely incredible.
Granted, I've always loved the RE games, but this game is so different from the past RE games, yet retains what we love. But damn, nothing beats taking on 20 guys, from within a house, with a TMP. Damn, this game is just great.

I also got RE4 today and after a couple hours I agree, this game ROCKS!
I played the original RE way back in the day and haven't touched another RE game since then. RE4 feels very familiar yet it's very fresh and easy to "pick up and play." I like the way Capcom did the third person perspective yet the game isn't like every other third person shooter game. It still feels very "RE" but with much more freedom and a camera view that is near perfect in the context the RE style of gameplay but nothing like the old fixed camera games.
I can see how some would argue that you can't straffe, or run and shoot and jump all about the place but then wouldn't it just be another third person shooter with an RE brand if it had that much freedom?
After spending time playing with Wind Waker, Ratchet & Clank UYA and GTA:SA its hard to give up some of that third person freedom I've grown accustomed to by playing these other games but RE4 easily holds it's own against these other heavy weights.

I'd like to add that while RE4 is an awesome action game, it lacks in the horror aspect of survival horror. Making a hero so powerful always detracts from the scariness of a game. Take, for example, the suffering.

mh i played the trial version i won in the "screenshot" contest here on the board and although atmosphere and graphics are brilliant i have problems with this one, imho the camera just plain sucks, i can't really look around corners, i don't see my enemies and if i'd play without sound i'd have no chance at all to realize someone is right in front of me sometimes
additionally, the controls just don't work for me, i don't know why, but they do. i'm pretty sure i'd love the game with a slightly better camera and a mouse to play it but this way it's not for me right now, maybe the final game has more control options to make them work for me....

I just got home from Gamestop, where I got the CE RE4 and Suikoden IV. I haven't played eithr one yet, but I'm gonna start Suikoden IV first.
I'm gonna put RE4 just to test it out and make sure it works, but it'll probably be a week or so before I actually begin to play it.

I don't think it's THAT bad, but my god, can you get flanked so easily. They really needed to add a 'look left/right' command somewhere. I mean, it's not far fetched. (Unless Leon doesn't have a neck)
So far so good, but right now.. it's not RE. Doesn't mean it's bad, hell, I think I like it better, but it's not the same much at all.

The game changed a bit since the Trial came out. The camera is now a bit more automatic, but you also get better contol over it in the final version. Trial Version just lel you move up or down one view... you can look left, right, up, down all in analog.
They took the binoculars away too... I guess you don't really need them, but it would be nice to look for special items at a safe distance.
The Knife is now an always eqipped item too, doesn't take any space in your attache case. Hold L to bring it out... Glad they did this, I couldn't stand constantly eqipping the knife just to break crates, don't want to waste any ammo on those.

Using the C-Stick you can tilt the camera around for a better peripheral view. It may not be the ideal solution but it works for getting a quick glance to the left and right.
Also, the manual shows how to do quick 180 degree turns. Handay! :D

You can sorta file me under that too. Well except for RE2, my fav so far. Definately have to give this game a chance, I mea it's like it's not even an RE game, well that's how much different it feels to me. And that's a GREAT thing!

Holy Shit!
I'm now 11 hours into the game and still on the first disc. And the game just keeps getting more insane (thats a good thing). It seems like almost every battle in this game is epic. And I don't know about you guys, but some of the monsters are freaking me out (just wait until you get later in the game). Oh, and if you think the graphics in the beginning are good, wait until you get to the lava! :eek 2:
This is a very pleasent surprise for me. I was never a huge RE fan (I have RE 1 for GC and RE 2 for N64), but this game is amazing. Definitely way beyond what I ever could expect. I had to stop for the day, but I certainly didn't want to. :D
BTW...as far as looking around corners and such, the C-Stick works perfectly fine for the most part.

I think I'm maybe 10 hours in or maybe more. It is a good game but, as others mentioned, it just isn't RE. This is blatantly apparent when you wander through the graveyard and your NOT EVEN SCARED or nervous. Name another SH game where a graveyard doesn't put you on edge.

Finally popped it it to play it, pretty good though I hate the manual aiming (When will you learn lock on targeting RE?), but hearing Leon say "shit" in a GC game made me smile. The game is hard as nails though (for me anyway). I can't get through that damn village, and that leatherface guy scared the hell out me.
It' probably gonna take me a while to get through it though, since I haven't played a RE game since 3 (I tried CV, but I got stuck 2 hours in and still haven't finished it), so I'm a little rusty.
Nice graphics though, and it sounds great in surround :)

Well I've progressed even further into the game today. I gave the game alot of time, I really did, but.... This isn't RE. It just isn't. Remove Leon and the herbs and there is NO connection to the other RE games AT ALL. I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, in fact it's AWESOME, but it just doesn't have the RE feel, if you know what I mean. Maybe thats why so many RE haters love it.

True, but lock on targeting is just to easy! I guess it depends what game it is for me to like lock on targeting. The reason for NO lock on targeting for this game I guess is because so you can aim anywhere you want to on the person's body.

I went to Gamestop to pickup Suikoden today and as I was leaving I heard a customer talking with the workers, saying "I heard Nintendo is going to sell Resident Evil back to sony". I'm happy I don't work at a gamestore, I would go insane when people say stupid stuff like this.

Been playing about 15 hours and I agree it's not "Resident Evil". Well it is but it's like a combination of Resident Evil, Max Payne, Medal of Honor and Chiller. I disagree that it's not scary though. There's not as many "Boo!" moments as previous RE games but it has this whole atmospheric thing going on that I find... unsettling, in a Silent Hill kind of way. The music especially gives it this feel. I guess the graveyard isnt as scary because you know nothing's going to come up out of the ground to get you, this just isnt that kind of game. Or is it? I'm not even up to the second disc yet.
If I havent made it clear I LOVE this game. I'm very addicted to it. Yesterday I couldnt play it at all and I was definitely going through withdrawal symptoms, being cranky and on-edge. TGIF!!!!
They took the binoculars away too... I guess you don't really need them, but it would be nice to look for special items at a safe distance.
Make sure to pick up the sniper rifle/scope as soon as you can afford it. The first things I bought were the attache case and the rifle and I've not regretted it. It's good for killin' and looking around an area from a safe distance. I still havent got the rocket launcher.
Another weapn-related tip: (spoiler)
Dont waste money upgrading your pistol. Buy the treasure map instead and it will give you the locations of the blue spheres you need to shoot. Get more than 10 and the shop guy will sell you a better pistol. Chuck your old pistol and upgrade the new one he sells you.

Anyways, I only have some very small gripes with the game. First, way too easy. I mean, I flew through this game. Also, I don't want to explain or spoil anything, but, this game has NO connections to the past RE's. There are some small things that are said, and they reveal some things, but that's about it.
But, on the bright side, the game was absolutely amazing. I mean, the main game was just mind blowing, and after you beat it, you get a couple of mini-games to play, and trust me, they're fun as hell.

You can go left or right.
The way you go with the crazy chainsaw ladies:
YOu know after you get they key from the ladieS? Open the door, walk in, and go inside that little room. YOu should see a trap door leading ot a basement. DONT go down it. instead turn and look for the boarded up window in that room. Use your knife to break it open, and jump in. there you go.
If you go the other way the treasure is in a bucket near the shacks.

Hmm, I've been playing it for the past few hours, and I have to say, I'm not that impressed. The game is still a lot of fun, but the 'environmental interactivity' that was touted is really rather limited, and the game is really nothing more than a third-person shooter with high production values and minimal puzzle-solving. The boss battles have been fun so far, and I don't regret the purchase, but I was hoping for a bit more plotline and far more adventure elements.

Well, I finally managed to unlock the handcannon. Its insanely powerful (when fully upgraded). If anyone needs any help with merc mode, let me know, I figured out some decent strategys for use with all characters. With the crappy characters (hunk, and leon), I could only manage 65,000. While the powerful characters (ada, krauser, wesker) I managed to easily get 80,000.
