On this first 2005 edition, our random game generator rattled, hummed, and finally squeaked out an oddball Genesis game titled "Bubble and Squeak".

I never heard of it until now. It sounds like a unique platformer that I might want to check out.

I remember seeing screenshots for this game a long time ago. I never played it though. And I always confuse it with "Bubba and stix," another genesis game.

I highly recommend it!

I've got the CD32 version, and I'm not a fan of the game. I hate platformers with puzzle (cooperative) elements. I prefer plain old joystick acrobatics ^^ Unfortunately, the CD32 version also suffers from occasional slowdowns if more than 3 or so enemy sprites are onscreen at once :/

interesting info about the name...
im told its british slang for 'leftovers'
as in 'whats for dinner?"
'bubble and squeak'
again?
I remember seeing screenshots for this game a long time ago. I never played it though. And I always confuse it with "Bubba and stix," another genesis game.Same here. Bubba 'n Stix is much better too (on the CD32 as well).

'bubble and squeak'
again?Actually, I thought that it was more specific than that. I'd heard it was cabbage and bacon (presumably made from leftovers).

Keir nails it. Although I've never eaten it myself, or known anyone else to for that matter. :)

BUBBLE AND SQUEAK :
1 med. onion, chopped
3 tbsp. bacon drippings or butter
2 1/2 c. cooked shredded cabbage (about 1 lb.)
2 c. mashed potatoes (about 1 lb.)
1 c. chopped leftover cooked beef or corned beef (optional)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
Wow-Wow Sauce (recipe follows)
Cook onion in bacon drippings in 10-inch skillet over medium heat until soft, about 5 minutes. Place cabbage in colander and press with back of large spoon to remove excess liquid. Add cabbage to onions and stir in potatoes. Cook, stirring frequently, until vegetables begin to brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in meat, if desired, and salt and pepper. Continue cooking without stirring until golden on bottom, about 10 minutes.
Invert mixture onto large serving plate. Cover with foil and keep warm in 225 degree oven while preparing Wow-Wow Sauce. Cut Bubble and Squeak into wedges. Serve hot with wow-wow sauce. 6 servings.
WOW-WOW SAUCE:
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. minced onion
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 c. rich homemade beef broth
1 tbsp. white wine vinegar
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. English-style mustard
1/2 tsp. prepared horseradish
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
2 tbsp. finely chopped fresh parsley
Melt butter in 1 1/2 quart saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onion. Cook, stirring constantly, until onion is soft but not browned, about 3 minutes. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add broth all at once and whisk until smooth. Stir in all remaining ingredients except parsley. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring frequently, until sauce is thickened, about 10 minutes. Stir in parsley.
