Here's a little nugget of gaming goodness you may have missed. Back when the Sega CD was out, there were a surpising number of shooters available for it. Frankly, I had a Sega CD back then and I missed all of them. Probably many of you also did.
One of the best ones I never played was Android Assault: The Revenge of Bari-arm. It's a classic horizontal shooter, where you play an advanced cyborg, and can morph from ship to robot in a Macross-esque manner. Heck, some of the levels look kinda like the Zentraedi attack in the Macross Saga of Robotech! With weapon charging, lasers, homing shots, and fire blasts, it's a pretty standard shooter, but it's VERY nice looking and well above par for the genre. And who doesn't love giant robots, honestly? Come on...you know you like them. You just don't admit it in public!
Anyway, in addition to being an excellent shooter, Android Assault - The Revenge of Bari-arm is extremely inexpensive, due in large part to the fact that most people don't know it exists. I bought a brand new copy for $5 + shipping off eBay...and as soon as I played it, I didn't regret it for a second. This is one game that you may have passed over in the past that's worth a closer look!

You forgot to give credit to the kick-ass soundtrack too. My only complaint with this one is the rather slow pace. It seems like some of those stages just keep going....and going.... and going. Had it moved a bit quicker, those issues wouldn't be issues.

Should I pick up a Sega CD at some point, I'll be adding this to my collection. I always wanted to try it, but never had the chance.

Yeah, I noticed this on my shelf a few months ago... threw it in and was quite impressed :)
I think I had a little trouble towards the end though, and the pace is what made me bored after trying 3 or 4 times to pass a certain part.
Still, good game :)

Agreed. Gives off a Gate of Thunder vibe. I love this one. Very Japanese.

Great choice for a sleeper. I always wondered why SHMUPS fans didn't talk about this one. I'm still not sure.

I've had this one for about a year.. but haven't gotten around to playing it yet (except to test it when I bought it). I LIKE big giant robots and I'm not ashamed to admit it! About 30% of my collection are "Mecha" titles.
I think I read somewhere that this game is also related to M.U.S.H.A.; but I can't be certain. It CAN go for on upwards of $20 or so.. oneBay on a good day for the seller.. I know.. it took me about 2 months to get it at a decent price.

Ooh, a Bariarm game. Worth getting then.
Oh, and while we all missed this game, NOBODY will forget Sewer Shark! LOL

Well, maybe I'd do it for $3 U.S., so what, $1.3 GBP?

It's not too bad at all. The only thing is, it's kinda slower than most shooters imo. Still defenitely worth checking out. While were on the topic you all need to get out there and try robo aleste too ;D.

Nope..that's Robo Aleste...another good title :)
And yeah, the game is a bit slower than most shmups, but I'm one of the few who prefer them that way. I thought the long levels were great too!

I'm putting a hold on all game buying for a while. But if I can still find this one cheap in a few months I'll pick it up.

Yup.. you're right.. I have both titles and I always get them mixed up. Now that I think back.. I think I DID pick up AA for about 5 bucks.. and paid about $20 for Robo Aleste.. my bad.
