View Full Version : I have never seen this ColecoVision "game" before.

My good friend Eduardo Luccas found a ColecoVision game here in Brazil which I have never seen before. To be honest it isn't exactly a game, but some kind of construction set named "Castelo" (castle). It works like a graphic editor just with castle options instead standard drawing tools (walls, roof, flags, etc). Not very exciting for sure, but a odd piece of software anyway... :hmm:
And it looks like the thing was programmed by IBM Brazil!
Has anyone here seen this "game" before?

Was it available on cartridge? Looks more like something for ADAM computers on cassette. I haven't seen this personally.

It was released as a cartridge for the Splicevision, the Brazilian Coleco clone.
You can download it here:

Hope geocities works this time.... :/

The link seems to work - I right clicked it and did "save target as".
How do you know this was on cartridge by Splicevision? Have you seen the cart? Do you have a scan or picture of the label?

It was definitively on a cartridge. It will check to see if my friend still has the case... It's embarrassing but... he killed the cart to use it as an EPROM loader!!
I told him it was a stupid action, but he said me the game was too boring, so he didn't care...
In fact, the first alpha for SI Collection was tested using this very cart (just the PCB)... I still feel bad about it... :(
Splicevision consoles and games are very, very rare even here in Brazil...

*reaches across internet to strangle opcode* :smash:
;) ah well that sucks but what's done is done. Proof would be nice though, if it's possible. You know this is just what we do!

I am sorry to say that but... Eduardo [Luccas] just told me the label is gone.... :(
I must add I hadn't any involvement with this crime. It is against my principles to kill old cartridges, even very bad ones... :)
Anyway, it was indeed a SpliceVision cartridge since Splice carts look very different from standard carts...
Here is a Splice cart...

Thanks for the pic! We have Spitfire in our database already - but the fact that this castle game isn't just a Portugese-language version of an existing ColecoVision game intrigues me.
Well, if anything turns up, please let us know! Thanks Eduardo!
I'd like to know how you made that castle with the bottom row a half-block longer than the top... :hmm:

Because the blocks can be placed with half-block increments. And they can be superimposed too...
I was just kidding, but thanks. :-D Very interesting find by the way. Sorry you didn't get to save the cart.

Eduardo [Luccas] asked me to keep the secret around this rom.
He send me his castelo rom file by e-mail many months ago and I promessed to keep this for me.
All I know it's in the rom (IBM, drawing with castle parts) except for one thing : Castelo is the name of a popular comics, right?

Well, since you guys aren't parting with the game or the ROM, could you do me a favor and take more screen shots of it please? Also, is the complete title "Castelo Mal Assombrado" (because there's a Splicevision Atari 2600 game with that name which I have also never seen)?
I need to update our database with this entry. Thank you!

Indeed there is a Splice Atari 2600 game called "Castelo Mal Assombrado" (Haunted Castle), but it is a completely different game (if memory serves well, it was Adventure). I sent a copy of it to an american collector a few years ago.
Daniel, I am not aware of Castelo being a comic title here in Brazil. There is a popular childish TV show here called Castelo Ra-Tim-Bum, but it wasn't available when the game was created. Maybe the best bet would be that here in Brazil there is a popular toy made of small wood blocks, which is very similar to the game. (does that toy exist in the US?)
I have a list of released SpliceVision games, but it isn't complete. I don't have it here now, but I can post it here shortly.

hmm.. never heard of POKER/21. that must be pretty scarce- it is not listed on the box of the SpliceVision, and all the other carts (minus Castelo) are. weird.
that is such a bummer that Castelo was butchered... wow.
:bawling:
hopefully another copy will turn up some day.
i cant believe that was actually sold though, it doesnt have any gameplay... i hope it wasnt the only remaining one.
is the original, labeled EPROM still alive?

I'm so confused.
Somebody bought a cart that is so rare that it's not on anyone list anywhere, somehow dumped it, took a screen shot, and then destroyed any evidence of owning the cart, including erasing the cart somehow and peeling off the label?
I must say that I don't know anything about Colecovision collecting, but don't rare, undiscovered games/programs often sell for thousands of dollars?
I think maybe I'm not following this thread right.

yeah, it is definetely confusing.. but weirder things have happened i guess.
this game wouldnt have sold in the thousands range, but i think it is safe to say it could have sold for around $ 100 to 200$ on the collectors market.

I talked to my friend Eduardo Luccas a little more about Castelo and he told me the cart was sent to him with no label, just a hand written sticker over it. The game used an EPROM (no big deal since I think all Splice games used EPROMs), and he believes the game was a prototype!!!!! O_O
However the f*&^% guy destroyed the original game (after dumping the program) and used the PCB to write another (more enjoyable) CV game! I am sorry guys, I also feel shocked but go figure... Maybe that was the only copy of this "game" and it's now dead Jim...
