View Full Version : Should I keep it?

Well, I had planned on saving my money for the rest of the month, but a stop at Toys R Us today had me spending a little more money on gaming. I want some second opinions though:

I picked up a PSOne w/ LCD screen combo for $48.00. The only thing is that it was a return. Supposedly, still good as new.

Now here's the thing with it -- I already have a PSOne, just without the screen. I have been wanting to pick up a screen, although I realized after I bought the PSOne today that I don't really know why I want the screen. Should I keep it? Return it? Is $48.00 a good deal for it?

I also picked up Jade Cocoon and Mortal Kombat something-or-another (Jax side story?) for $4.00 apeice. I've heard the Mortal Kombat game is horrible, so I kinda wanted to see that. Is Jade Cocoon decent? Worth $4.00?

Thanks in advance :)

psone with a screen is just awesome to have. spend a few days sick with it in your room and see if you want to sell it.

That's a damn fine deal if I do say so myself!

I just sold one in the B/S forum about a month and a half ago for $60 (although it was in good shape and came with a few extras). As far as keeping it, you're in that boat alone to decide. I always think about it this way (since I'm not a big collector): Will I play it at least once every couple of months? If not, I don't need it.

I got 3 PSOne Combos at TRU for about $45 each... They were on clearance :)

Hell if you don't want it I would gladly take it off your hands. Let me know!

A combo for that price is definitely worth it.

I like my combo. It's good for playing video games while you're propped up on pillows in the bedroom. It's good for some quick shmupping in the kitchen while you're waiting to baste your bratwurst. It's good for playing video games while you're waiting to play video games (e.g., sitting in an XBL lobby). It's good for dicking off on lunch hour at work/school, especially if you can grab a victim for some 2D fighting--just make sure you've both brushed your teeth recently!

I also like the CD player interface with the crazy reverb options. The screen is sharp, the sound is surprisingly good, and if you pick up a camcorder cable you can patch it over to play other VG systems on it, without spending $100+ on a screen designed to fit a current-gen console. Make it Saturn Day at your workplace! Finally, I'd keep the second PSone. They may be more durable than the big gray boxes, but No One Lives Forever. Me, I've got one standard PSone and one, er, "import-enabled" PSone. I'm friggin' loaded for bear.

I spent $70 on what I think was a store display combo about six months ago, and I haven't regretted it at all. All in all, I think you should be able to find plenty of ways to enrich your life with the PSone/screen combo.

Ah, that's awesome. And I already have the Camcorder cable. That, along with the idea of taking it to work for lunch periods might just have won it for me. I don't think my wife would be happy if I walked around plugging it in all over to play games in the house while doing "work" ;)

We'd have to see about Saturn day at work though -- When I organized our Christmas party this year, I brought in my Xbox and a Dreamcast expecting the Xbox (and Halo) to get all the attention. Amazingly, it was barely touched while Chu Chu Rocket and Rush 2049 ruled the day. The Dreamcast is still at work, and every day after work has become Rush 2049 time. Everyone now has their own VMU (thanks to the GOAT Store ;) ), and we play on a 29" VGA monitor (being a tech has it's advantages!) It's really fun. Anyway, back on topic...

Cool. I do think I'll keep it thanks to your advice. By the way, if anyone is interested they did have a bunch of third party screens for $28.55 new (I believe). If you want one at that price I can try to pick them up. Just email me the max you're willing to pay including shipping, and I'll make sure I can get one under that price. I'll only charge the price + shipping and maybe a quarter or so for gas and time, but I'm not positve I have the prices right...

Thanks everyone :)
