I need to hook a number of GameCube's up to VGA monitors for a lan thing.
Now, the big problem with this is that Nintendo charges so damn much for their freaking component cable that you have to order directly from them. I think it's like $45 with shipping and everything.
And then I would still need a component to VGA Adapter. Luckily, I can get those for like $15 each or so.
But the combined cost is $60 or more, and that is pretty freaking ridiculous just to be able to see Mario Kart DD in 480p on these monitors.
But if there is a "TRUE" vga type box or adapter for the Cube, then that might be a better deal. Especially if you could get one for like $39.99 each or something.
That would help cut down the costs a tiny bit.

I've seen, at Wal-Mart, "off-brand" component cable sets for the Cube for $9.99. Actually, they're multi-system cables - you can swap the system connector to work with a PS1, PS2, Xbox, or a 'cube. VERY nice. I'm very seriously considering picking up one or two sets just for my "expo bin" when I hit the road with my gear.

Aheadgames has a VGA cable you can use for the purpose. It's a Japanese D-terminal cable that has been modified to output a VGA signal. I have one and it works very well. However, there are two things you need to be aware of: first, it only works with games that support progressive scan (which is thankfully many of them). Second, you won't be able to see the system's set up interface that comes up when you don't have a game inside. So, if you need to do any memory card management or change the system's clock you'll need to connect it to a TV.
It's pricey though-$49.99. They have received their last shipment of these and won't be getting any more, so if you want it you should order it soon.
There's a review of the cable here: http://www.planetgamecube.com/reviews.cfm?action=hwprofile&id=403
Aheadgames notes that they have since solved the "ghosting" problem mentioned in the review.
