View Full Version : list of NES carts with 5-screw casings?

is there a list of NES carts that were printed with the 5-screw casing, as well as a list of games that had both 3-screw and 5-screw variations. To my surprise, my copies of old NES games like Golf and Mega Man had the newer 3-screw casing, which leads me to believe there were multiple printings. it sounds like a minor quibble, but i figure people on this site are hardcore enough to give a dam like myself :P

try a search. this has been discussed before, and usually ends up with one person saying 'thats stupid to ceollect those' and another saying 'any of the first year releases, or games before (insert date here) have 5 screws'. which doesnt help a damn thing. ill PM my list, as ill imagine this postll get locked.

since there arent many label variations on NES carts (Metroid, Punchout!!, Zelda 1 and 2 grey carts), this is an interesting topic to explore, not because of the aesthetics of a smooth corner vs a corner with a tab, but this is a good way to see which early NES games were popular enough for a second printing.

I agree, and I don't understand why this topic would get locked. Isn't this exactly the kind of research we all WANT?

He probably meant that it would be locked if it was a duplicate thread. I've been unable to do searches on here for a while so I'll just assume that this is an original thread. :)

I'll edit this post later today when I go through my carts to see which are 5-screw. Good topic BTW, this is a great way to get lots of NES info quickly. Make sure you keep an up-to-date list of all 5 screw games in the first post so people can easily see what has been confirmed.

i will get the ball rolling by listing the carts i have with 5-screw casings, if you want to help, then 1)add games in your collection with the same casing that have not been mentioned. and 2) cross check the current list to see if there is a 3-screw variation. if you see one, then mark the entry with a *

copy/paste the new list with your revisions in a response

Here is a list we are working on for cardboard hangtabs on the original box the games came in.

We speculate that all the 5 screws had hangtab boxes but are not sure. I can confirm all games in that list up to August 1987 have 5-screw variants. Some of the September/October/November 1987 I can confirm as well but not all.

This is a great topic that I hope will someday be completed. Having a NES collection with ALL variations of ALL games would be the ultimate complete collection! \^_^/

I have Golf, SMB, and Wrecking crew in hangtab boxes with 5 screws.

Also, random fact, some 5-screw Gyromites had Famicom boards inside with a converter to US! They are considerably heavier if you compare. Also, I think all Stack-ups had this too.
