can't seem to find any on eBay...
does anyone know the approx value on boxed N64DD?
someone asked me whether I'd be interested in for $390 plus shipping...
I'm not sure whether I should take that offer... coz $420-440 inc shipping is a lot of money...
TIA

what games are with it as on its own thats a lot to be paying for just the bare system. I paid $500 and that was for a mint one in its original outer shipping box with 7 games.

I have a feeling that's a bit much. I've seen boxed N64 DDs around, I don't recall them being $390 but of course that was just for the DD unit itself.
Of course I've paid a good part of that amount for a game worth a fraction of what I paid, so...

What exactly is a N64DD? Some kind of demo system?

The 64DD is an addon to the N64 that gave the system more memory. (i think) It never came out in the US.

It was a disk-drive add-on for the N64. It allowed companies to produce N64 games in disk format, which was considerably less expensive than cartridges. In addition, it allowed gamers to connect to the internet via a service called Randnet.
EDIT: Here is a link for more information: http://www.64dd.net/

And I paid $350 for my one which included the same 7 games that Importaku no doubt got. Cost just as much to acquire the other two (as they only made a few thousand of Doshin 2 and Nippon Pro Tour Golf) to round out the complete set.

Yes, that is alot of $$.
I plan on getting a N64DD someday. That is a dream of mine!
I was so dissapointed when Nintendo decided to not release it in the US.

I keep putting off getting the 64DD. That's a huge chunk of money to spend when ya don't have a job. o_O I dream of the day when my boyfriend and I can play the F-Zero X Expansion Kit, though. :)

he said the demo disc he will throw in is also fairly rare - dunno how accurate that is though...

There's a Nintendo 64 DD unit for sale on eBay right now with the Randnet card for $299.

One thing I've always wondered about is if there are any Zelda titles for it - I recall reading that the Zelda bonus disc Master Quest game(s?) were from the DD, but that was secondhand info and I think it's very likely BS as I've never seen it mentioned elsewhere...would still like to know though :)

yep saw it but mine's brand new for both... :D
look at the description of the auction.
"...Without box or instructions. System is in mint condition and comes with a Randnet card, Randnet disk and mouse. There is a scratch on the randnet card."

The Master Quest was intended to come out for the 64DD, and it was pretty much finished. However, the 64DD died so quickly that it was never released.

Another reason to get a GC...but not a DD LOL
Thanks, Aussie2b :)
I've always wondered - do you need a Japanese N64 or will the DD work on a US system?

Well, Japanese and U.S. N64 carts aren't interchangeable, but I've no clue about the expansion port. Back to square one from this corner ;P

I'm fairly sure it's only for JPN N64.
I can pick up used N64 for around 100-500 yen but shipping would cost more than the unit... probably I will pick one up next time I'm in Tokyo so I can carry it back as hand luggage.
I'd like to overclock as well as S-video and from what I heard those transparent coloured N64 are more OC friendly but lack S-video?
can anyone confirm that with coloured N64 Nintendo dropped S-video just like they did with GC? :(
cheers

You can use a 64DD on a US N64 (it's how I have it). You'll just need a copy of F-Zero X in Japanese to be able to play the Expansion Kit however.

N64 has no regional lock-out other than the physical shape of the carts. As long as youve removed the obstructing tabs from within the console, then you shouldnt have any problem.

Awesome, good to know. The DD is one of those things I know I can definitely live without, but still want :)
