What I'm trying to do is use a bunch of XBOX live headsets, but use them offline for a lan party type of thing.
I've heard that certain XBOX Live enabled games will also let you use the headset feature for network/link games as well.
Not all of the XBOX Live games allow this, but a good number do.
I'm working on a GameCenter business plan, and I would need to order a large number of these headsets things.
The thing is, I don't need XBOX live at all. I just need the acutal physical headsets.
Can you buy the headsets independently from the XBOX Live package?
How much do they go for?
Anybody seen a really good deal on them?
Thanks for any help on this.

Here's my take:
Don't bother. It's not worth it from a financial standpoint. They're $30 apiece and the cheap ones don't come with the communicator (the part that plugs into the controller itself). Not only that, but I don't know ANYONE whose official MS headset hasn't broken. So if you do for some reason decide to buy them, be sure to order a case or two of electrical tape to for the inevitable makeshift repairs becasue they WILL break very easily. Just have a wall between rows of TVs so teams can collaborate without being easily overheard.

Wow, they are really that crappy?
I did a search on google, and I see the communicator/headset for $26.99 each. That's the best price I've seen. So basically 30 bucks with tax each. Do they have any type of warranty with them?
One of the problems is how this GameCenter is going to be configured. There will be a total of 51 XBOX stations at the game center. In one area, 64 people will be able to simultaneously play Halo 2 at the same time. 4 different groups of 16 people. Then in another area, 8 players will be able to play at one time, and in another area, 12 players.
Depending on how things are setup, in terms of which games are going to be running at which gamestations, it's possible that one group of gamers will be playing another group of gamers, but they could end up kind of split up and fragmented throughout the gamecenter. Thus the need for headsets.
The thing that sucks is that I would need 84 freaking headsets. Plus another 84 backup headsets. 168 total headsets at $30 each. Damn.
That's 5 grand, just for freaking headsets.
I think what we will have to do is that people can bring their own headsets from home.
Maybe we could have some headsets available for an additional rental fee, but the fee will have to be correlated with the amount of time that these things will last without getting broken.
Hmmm.
Thanks for the help.

yeah MS has the market cornered on those damn modules. I wish they would just sell them seperatly. The Headsets are pretty easily broken (though mine is still intact) but what your really looking for would be the module. though they don't sell them without the headset :(

I've only used my headset a little, and it was free with the One Year XBox Live, so it seems allright to me. :)

Give it time. By "broken" I don't mean that it no longer works. I mean that the little clip that holds the earpiece and mic will snap and you'll have to rig up a wad of electrical tape to hold it in place. Then when that tape starts to sag and lose it's effect, you'll need to reapply tape again.

Well, my dad bought one of these because he accidently broke our friend's headsets, so he bought a new one. Well, he kept the XBox one and gave a crappy cheap one to our friend, (nice guy, eh?), and he's been using it for when he's doing business ever since. He says it's the best headset he's ever used.

Thats exactly what happened to mine. Instead of tape I used some rubber cement and ignited it until the plastic on both pieces melted and bonded to each other. Not the prettiest method, but very effective.
