View Full Version : 2 Dreamcasts, 1 reads all my backups, 1 reads some...why?

1 Dreamcast reads all of my CDR's (! have tested 0ver 200) the other reads some, but it's hit or miss. So since it reads some I know it's not one of those incompatible models and I have tried to adjust the pot, laser calibration etc, results varied from only reading originals to only reading backups to reading nothing at all but seems the best I can get is reading all originals but only some CDr's yet my other system reads everything (which rules out the quality of the CDR's I would think?). Anyway, my solution is to use the flaky unit as much as possible until I find a CDR that it can't read then I use the model that boots everything as I would rather preserve the "Read all" unit.

THANKS in advance......

Any thoughts/opinion/suggestions?

I know that some of the later DC's had some sort of piracy protection on them. Flip them both around and see what the manufacturer's date on them is.

It's been proven that ALL Dreamcast will boot backups.

Some just have weaker lasers than others so they have a harder time reading CD-R's.

But you can adjust the laser pot if you want to tweak it a bit so it will read them better.
