for carts i use paint thinner (for plastic models), but never on boxes as it takes the paint OFF. i would assume it might take the paint off of the discs too.

One time someone accidentally wrote with permanent marker on a dry-erase board here at work. We couldn't get it off. Then some guy in the office came along and wrote all over the permanent lines and letters with a dry-erase marker. Then, using the regular old dry-erase eraser, the permanent came right off. Weird as hell, but it works. I've had a hunch ever since then that it might work on games. ANyone wanna give it a shot?

I was directed by other users here to try Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. Worked beautifully on carts. There is at least one post on this in the technical & restoration forum here, but the search function isn't working presently, so I can't say if that topic mentioned whether it would work on a CD reliably.

EDIT:http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32963

Found the post, suggests a couple other products, but does not mention the CD friendliness of any of them.

Magic Eraser is going to scratch a disc to hell and back.. I wouldn't use it.

Maybe fingernail polish remover, but I'd experiment with a throwaway AOL disc or something because of suspicions it would melt the plastic.

There is a consumate solution in buying another copy of Sonic Shuffle.. I understand it's one of the easier Dreamcast games to replace, plastic turd that it is.

Goo Gone. Been using it for years.

I second the goo gone. Rubbing alcahol works damn good too.

I second what Bratwurst said about the magic eraser. Thsoe thigns are great but I wouldnt touch a CD with one.

If you have access to methanol (methyl alcohol) it is the best at removing ink because it will not hurt the plastic at all. Assuming that you can;t get any of that though, I would try the dry-erase marker trick that someone mentioned earlier.
