My favorite was that Guile had a gun hidden in his boot and that if you got the "handcuff" glitch to work, you could then make him shoot his opponent in the head.
Anybody else heard that one?

Geez my friend used to make myths about Final Fantasy 3/6 all the time. My favorites:
1. If you win another 250 battles with the cursed ring after getting the Paladin shield, you can get Banon back.
2. He also said in Daryl's tomb before getting Setzer's new airship there's an item that can allow General Leo to be resurrected.

When I was having a hard time finding a copy of Katamari Damacy, I started telling people that it caused cancer. Found a copy soon after that. Coincidence? I think not!

I completed the -1 world in Super Mario Bros. and found the secret Cow level in the original Diablo.
So the answer to your question is "no," I have never spread rumors--cuz I really did do those things. :P

I never spread any untrue rumors...I know plenty of kids back in the NES era that did though!!
i spread the rumor of having fireballs while in small state (sorry, english broken) in super mario bros. Who would have thought.
That actually is possible, at least with Game Genie. There may be a glitch to do it otherwise too.

you could get fireballs while small. if at a bowser, you timed it right and jumped on him and the axe at the same time, it would fix it so that when you got a mushroom, it made you small and when you got the flower you could throw fireballs while small. it worked until you died. So sorry, you were just spreading the word about a little "glitch" in the game.

I've only told my buddy Ron some made up crap about finding hidden things in Super Mario Bros, just to bust his balls and make him play the game through to see if he could find them..(stand at this spot for awhile)
...I had him going for awhile. :D
It's just how we pull jokes on each other.
Back in NES days..
His friend Eric told him that "he"could jump over the flag at the end of levels and go somewhere else ..(some hidden levels)
He told this to every kid on the block back then and had them all trying to do this as told to me by Ron.

I used to tell my friends not to worry if they didn't have enough food or energy in M.U.L.E., that I would collude with them during the auction... then I didn't.

Yeah, well, either I had a dream as a kid that I did this, or I made it up, because I used to swear that I had done the same thing. I've tried numerous times to do it again, to no avail.
What happens is you jump over the flag and then when you get to the pipe, you go down the top one instead of just walking into the warp.
at least....that's how I remember telling the story or dreaming it up. But it's true I tell you! Since Ron (whom I dont know) knew someone that had done the same thing. Unless Ron was in my kindergarten-3rd grade classes. Is Ron from California!?
Dammit! Don't ruin my fantasy, I really did jump that flagpole!

Eventually he beat bowser but in one stage my roomate and I said he needed to kick this wall 99 times and he'd get a star. He started kicking

As I recall, you really can jump over the flagpole in 3-3. However, there's nothing beyond the flag but an endless castle wall, and the only way to move on is to wait for the timer to run out. Details at TMK (http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk).

I must admit, I have tried to make up a rumor about a certain game, hoping that it would grow and spread throughout the internet, but I don't think it actually got that far...
A few people on here know what I am referring to... Lol! LOL
I had a good thing going for a while... I underestimated the membrs of DP though...

Start an untrue rumor about a game? Like how if you don't reach and destroy the background volcano in Battlezone, it'll flood the whole playing field with lava and end the game?
I'd never do such a thing.

I spread that fake Tomb Raider nude code around a bit when I was in high school. Speaking of that, a friend of mine's mother wouldn't let him play Tomb Raider because she had heard about the code somewhere herself. LOL

I've never spread any, but my favorite one was by Electronic Gaming Monthly, you had to type in this extremely long code in teenage mutant ninja turtles for something to happen.
Anyways, people tried and tried and tried, and just assumed they were screwing it up since it was like a 20 or 30 button code.... Well the next month they said April Fool's, I thought it was a pretty good one, my neighbor spent forever trying to get it... Luckily I didn't own the game or else I would have been a victim.

I'm embarassed to admit I told a bunch of people about unlocking Sonic & Tails in Super Smash Brothers Melee because I was unfamiliar with EGM's April Fools jokes hehe...
One false rumor I knowingly spread was that you could bring Nei back to life in Phantasy Star 2 if you stole a Moon Dew with Shir before you fought Nei First.
I probably spread it even after trying it because it was so hard to do, and I sooooooooo wanted it to be true hehe.
