I was trying to make the complete list of FF games...including all the home-console as well as pocket ones...including platforms, and jap-only releases...and all the re-makes and re-re-makes :P

I sadly noticed that I'm missing a lot of stuff...expecially on the only japan part...and the whole digit mess up.

So anyone up to the challenge?

everything! LOL

The above list has everything, just add

Chocobo Racing-PSX
Chocobo no Fushigi Dungeon-PSX
Chocobo no Fushigi Dungeon 2-PSX
Chocobo Collection-PSX
Chocobo Stallion

Also, Makai Toushi SaGa has nothing to do with the Final Fantasy series, and neither do the Gameboy games, besides the fact that they were given Final Fantasy names in the States in order to increase sales.

then I guess you'll count games like (since they all include FF characters)

erhgeiz
kingdom hearts
kingdom hearts final mix
kingdom hearts final mix platinum edition
kingdom hearts: Chain of Memories
kingdom hearts 2
dice de chocobo
chocobo's mysterious dungeon
chocobo's mysterious dungeon 2
final fantasy 7 international
the bouncer (cactuer on the back of a jacket?)
ff12

so you might wanna narrow your specifics or pray you have deep pockets if you're planning to collect them all

Well he did say anything, Including some spinoffs.

And I would say go ahead and include the FF Game Boy games (even though they are all something else in Japan) because they were GIVEN that name in the States.

He DID say that he wanted everything, including spinoffs, so I'd include Bahamut Lagoon as well.

And make sure you include the PC ports of FF7 and 8 -- they get ignored a lot of the time.

Now what's this about Final Fantasy for the MSX computer? :hmm:

A couple more spinoffs off the top of my head are...Tobal 2-which had playable chocobos in it, and Chrono Trigger- that a cameo of both Vicks and Wedge from FF6. Also nobody has yet to include all the recent FF7 spinoffs coming up. I also think there's some sort of party game in the works staring FF
characters.

Those are debatable, as Vicks and Wedge are conventions in most Square games.

I've always had a feeling that Bahamut wasn't even something Square created. Could it possibly be some creature from some mythology?

Anyway, besides "Bahamut" being in the title, the game has nothing in common with Final Fantasy. I wouldn't even call it a spin-off. It's its own game.

Well, we're clearly not going for clarity here. (You also missed FF4 EasyType.)

Furthermore, it seems that FF3 was never in fact released for the Wonderswan. And there's also Chocobo World for the Pocketstation, if you want to count that.

Well technically neither is Mystic Quest or Chrono Trigger, but that didn't stop them adding Cjron Trigger to FF Anthology (US)...

If you want to down right technical it WAS Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest...

As for Bahamut Lagoon, for some reason I always associate it with Kemco's Lagoon... though to the best of my knowledge there is no connection...

Maybe not, but I still thought it was worth noting, seeing as how it has been a typical summoning spell in the series for a long time and both were made by square.

Yup! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahamut)

Bahamut Lagoon...well, that one's about as close to Final Fantasy as Seiken Densetsu is. There's also a strategy RPG for the Mega Drive called Bahamut Senki, totally unrelated.

Anyhow, I've seen the MSX Final Fantasy on eBay before. Don't think it got any bids. I've been considering buying a copy for a while. I'm quite sure it's not super uncommon or rare. A bit uncommon yeah, but not so much that you should invest big bucks in it.

Bump for Jorpho mentioning IV Easy Type (I own that one), and that the first list isn't readily understood.

Also Final Fantasy VII International.

I recall having this topic a few months back...of course, that's pretty much worthless to us right now. :p

Just because Square USA added the FF name to the old GB games doesn't really made them spin-offs. There's really nothing FF about them. Just my 2 cents. As for Mystic Quest, it seems that it was released in the USA first and then Japan as FF USA Mystic Quest, so I would count that one.

SoulBlazer
01-18-2005, 08:20 AM
Well, there was some small changes made to FFA -- the Chocobo being put in along with the theme music -- but with the FFL games they just added the name. Still, I'd argue that's enough to put them into the spinoff catagory.

I never knew about Final Fantasy for the MSX -- makes sence, because the first games Square made were for the MSX. I'll have to see what I can find about it.

Any idea on games being worked on now? FF XII is due out in a few months, but I don't think anything else in the series, spinoff or not, is planned right now.....

How about...every FF sold in US that includes FF in the title (or the full extended title ...like Mystic Quest -> FF: Mystic Quest)

And please include the systems... :D

Yeah, that's about right. It was developed by Square of Japan for the US. In the US, it was called Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. In Japan, it was simply Final Fantasy USA; "Mystic Quest" wasn't even in the title. In Europe, it was Mystic Quest Legend. At the time, Europe had yet to get a Final Fantasy game, so it was kind of pointless to try to cash off on the name recognition there.

I think those are in the japanese version to. And speaking of Seiken Densetsu, you can get a chocobo in Legend of Mana if you have a FF8 savefile on the same memory card.

Indeed, there is even an arranged version of the FFA soundtrack which has the Chocobo theme on it. I can only dream of finding the MP3s someday, as it's supposed to be a rather nice album. ( http://www.altpop.com/stc/reviews/sdsc.htm )

You're absolutely right about FFA. Its going on 10 years since I've played through FFA so I had forgot all about it. I change my vote on FFA and make a note to myself to play through it again. =) As for FFL1-3... if you're going to do a list of games with FF in the name then sure, but otherwise no.

Ah, I'd say just play Sword of Mana for the GBA instead -- a much better game then FFA and more faithfull to the original. ;)

yoursisterspretty
01-20-2005, 06:27 AM
You know a friend bought Sword of Mana when it came out and I played through the first couple of hours and then just lost intrest in it. I don't know. It's probably just because I don't have a SP, because I seem to loose intrest in a lot of GBA games... heh, probably because I can't see to play! One day I'll get an SP, like when they hit $40 or so. I really don't need another GB (I have the brick, pocket, color and org GBA), so unless someone buys me one, I'm kind of done with GBA for a while.

Some more games with cameos and references. Cesil has a cameo in Secret of Evermore, there is Final Fantasy 4 music during the Culex battle in Super Mario RPG, there is a chocobo on the museum in Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story has references to things in Final Fantasy Tactics (booth games are set in the same world).

I always thought it was going to get released sometime in the future (I also listed as-yet unreleased games) It's been a while now, so it must have been cancelled. I'll take it off the list.

There's still Final Fantasy 7 International and the Final Fantasy Anthology that included FF5 and FF6. There are also some changes between FF4 EasyType and FF2 US, but let's not split hairs. Come to think of it, wasn't the first FFXI expansion released separately in Japan as well? (Are expansions even available for the PS2 version, BTW?)

And let's not forget http://www.gamespot.com/features/vgs/universal/finalfantasy_hs/ .

Correct. Square offered numerous reasons why FF 4 was'nt included with 5 and 6 when they released Final Fantasy Anthology in the States. Maybe some of them are real. ;) In any case, they made up for it when they released FF 4 with Chrono Trigger on Final Fantasy Collection a year later. Japan got the CT remake seperaly. So in the end it washed out. ;)

And I've also heard that the remake of FF 3 for the Wonderswan was complete and ready to go when Square decided to drop support for the system. I assume that version will never get released -- it will just be ported over to the DS for it's Japanese and American release.

FF XII in a few months! :D :-P
