Damn...never got a chance to check out the site. It's always sad to see retro sites close doors though =\.

Anybody remember poster ShinobiMan? I got him mad by inadvertently dissing his site LOL Well, many of the graphics are gone, but if you want to check out what was there, just use The Wayback Machine:

It was strange that he didn´t update the site when he said (November 12th). Too bad, as it was the best SMS site.

DAMN! That SUCKS! I never heard of it until now either, but I sure would've added it to my favorites list if I had heard of it before it died! We can never have too many SMS sites! That's the one system that I deeply regret never collecting for! I always wanted to, but at the time I was too poor for it, and now I'm still too poor for it! So all I have is MEKA and a Phantasy Star ROM!

Given the delay in bringing Ver. 4 to fruition, I can't say I'm too surprised, but it's still a great shame. Hopefully something can be sorted out and a new version raised from the ashes. The forums there are still as active as ever, if not more so.
However, there's still SMS Power (smspower.org), which is one of the benchmark communities for serious discussion, and the promising newcomer Sega8bit.com, which covers much the same ground that SMS.com used to.

SMS.com will continue folks, it's not over. Rather than delay the inevitable, I have given control of the site over to Sinistral, webmaster of sega8bit.com.

We are working together to make it better than it ever was. A full fledged database with all SMS games where users can submit reviews instantly is just one of the goodies.

I am no longer webmaster though. I have to much going on in my life to really give the site the attention it needs. I think my choice to pass the torch was for the best. I created and stayed with it for 5 years, I'm sure Sinistral will do the same.

Thanks for all of your concern. The site meant a lot to many SMS fans, and I am just happy I was able to revive the memory of the great system in a lot of them.

Go! Look! Write a review! :)

(although reviews can only be submitted for games already in the database - they're all being steadily added right now).

As Shinobiman just explained, the site is being taken over by a new webmaster. I guess that the transfer is already completed or, at the very least, ongoing. But this is not the old Segamastersystem.com website, at least not visually (of course, what matters is the actual content of the site).

Yes, it will gradually become SegaMasterSystem.com again. Right now his tributes site is up there as a filler.

Many of the old sections from sms.com will return, like the Battle Arena, and there will also be a page dedicated to the sites history, which will include links to archived pages from the past and an interview with myself. Should be fun kids. :D

Edit - Note that this last post was meant to be started as a new thread, but accidently got tagged onto this old one.

Many of you at the roundtable used to (or still do) associate me with a website called SegaMasterSystem.com. It was in fact the outet that led me to Digital Press (I followed Zektor) and was cherished by many other board members for years.

Despite a thread that was created earlier this year, I'm sorry to have to say it, but SegaMasterSystem.com really is and forever will be a thing of the past.

For a while, as many of you know, the site was under the new control of a fellow SMS fan Sinistral. For months the domain linked to his fan site while he prepared (with my old site as a sort of backdrop) the relaunch of SegaMasterSystem.com.

In a sad turn of events, the site was snatched up by a third party in between the renewel period for the domain. Sinistral and I had both discussed the possibility of this happening, but based on information from the domain provider and Sinistral himself, I was under the impression that he would retain full ownership after a brief waiting period.

This never happened, and in order for myself (I don't expect Sinistral) to regain ownership from this mafia of an internet company, I must come up with 900 dollars.

I will be fair in saying that this in no way was entirely Sinistral's fault, as I (being the creator and caretaker of the site) should have been able to see the deal through without any problems. Call it inexperience or an internet screw job, the whole ordeal has upset me and even made me question why I gave up the site in the first place.

I was under the faux impression that it would always be there for me to be apart of, like Stan Lee and his status with Marvel, but I now fully understand the statement, "You never knew what you had until it was gone."

A deep apology to all the SMS fans who honestly enjoyed what that site had to offer. It was a fun ride, a memory I will always cherish.

I guess the best thing to do now is never look back.

Aw hell, just one last time!
