Is there a website that list strategy guides for systems like the PS1 and N64 and what there value is? I am asking because i am starting a new fad in collecting strategy guides to all PS1 RPG's as well as a few strategy guides for hard to find games.

Heh. That's not a few fad...I've been doing it for years :P
As far as I know, there's no listing for what guides were released and what formats (i.e. B&W, with pictures, without, etc), and no standard values. They seem to fluctuate violently from month to month though, so I guess that's not a big surprise.

I collect guides also. ;)
Which ones were you wanting a price check on?
As a GENERAL rule of thumb, old guides based on RPG's are the most likley to hold their value or go up over the years.

I was wondering the value of Silent Hill for PS1. I am also looking to see if there were guides made for Tales of Destiny series as well as Saiyuki: Journey est.
I have a TOD 2 guide, and I want to say Prima did a TOD 1 guide, but I can't find any reference to it, so I might just be imagining having seen it.

Well, THOSE are questions I can answer :D
The Silent Hill 1 guide has little value unless you need it for the game. I'd say $10-15.
As for the Tales of Destiny games, both had guides.
The Tales of Destiny 1 guide was a magazine format guide printed by Gamefan, just like the one for Persona. It's very hard to find...been looking for one a long time myself.
The Tales of Destiny 2 guide was a Prima one and should be easy to get but not cheap these days. Expect to pay a good $30+ for each Tales guide...unless they're higher :D
Saiyuki: Journey West did not have a guide that I have seen...and I looked for one when it came out and for a while after.

SH guides are probably worth a good bit (edit: well, $10-$15 is a good chunk of change for just any ol' guide, eh Maxlords? :P), but I would definitely still pick them up. They'll only get more expensive as time goes on, though don't expect RE type expenses.
My short list of the non-RPG game guides I'd like to get:
-Resident Evil/Biohazard stuff (I'm bigger on the Japanese stuff though, much more into those)
-Parasite Eve (I also need to get the GAMES sometime!)
-Silent Hill
-oh and Medievil LOL

How handy! Sight confirmation of Threads of Fate - I haven't picked up the game yet but if the guide is any indication this is an unknown gem in the ARPG style, made by Square no less! Get get get.

Oh yeah. :) I sold MINE a couple years ago for $60. :D
Good list of guides there, BTW.
How IS that Persona guide, BTW? Several times I almost bought it from Atlus but never did. I never saw it in stores.

the Persona guide is bare bones...basically just maps of the rather labyrinthine levels and a few comments and a bit of info. It's all you need though. I assume the Tales of Destiny 1 guide is the same...I know it exists cause I've seen it.
I had similar problems getting the color Wild Arms guide....never found one for YEARS till I got one here at DP. There are a few VERY elusive PSX guides out there!

holy crap they have so many version(brady/prima/ etc..) of the same game
how do you know which is the better one ??(if you don't personally see it first...when you buy from ebay or online stores)
also rpg guide seems to go up on price all the time(along with the game like suikoden/vprofile/earthbound) ... i use them some time...but i buy them mostly for the completion of my game and the art work ..i collect rpg guide's only :D

My favorite guides have always been the official Nintendo ones. Some of them were crap (Banjo Kazooie, for example), but others had so much neat artwork or bonus stuff (Chrono Trigger, Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, etc.) Prima and Brady are complete shit in comparison. I got my first few Versus guides this past summer, and I was actually pretty impressed with them. A shame that they're not making guides anymore.

You could probably convince somebody that's a spoof! LOL
Well, onto Brady Guides...yeah, many are absolute crap. Not the Threads of Fate one though. Sure, it's got the same artwork over and over throughout, but the presentation is pretty darn nice. Not as good as some stuff (i.e. the OoT guide - that's a classic!) but still not horrible.
Also the Super Game Boy guide - that's always nice to have!

I'm collecting guides as well, and yep, some of the guides for the PSX-RPGs are pretty expensive in the meantime or hard to come by. (e.g. Suikoden II, Valkyrie Profile, Tales of Destiny 1 and 2, Wild Arms 2)...not a good time to hunt those guides on ebay. :) One of the most expensive is Blood Omen Legacy of Kain, btw, the early Brady guide in black and white, which is a great guide.

I also collect guides. I get them for every RPG I own although I am still missing a few. The best spots to look for me are in used book stores like Half-Price Books.
I'm still on the watch for:
Suikoden II - PrimaGames Guide
Final Fantasy VII - Versus Books Guide
Dragon Warrior III - PrimaGames Guide
Dragon Warrior Monsters - PrimaGames Guide
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 - PrimaGames Guide
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness - DoubleJump Guide
La Pucelle - BradyGames Guide?
Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal Guide (Who makes it?)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PrimaGames Guide?
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance - Sybex Guide
Digimon World - PrimaGames Guide
Ehrgeiz - BradyGames Guide
Front Mission 3 - BradyGames Guide
Wild Arms - whoever makes the color guide, I have the B&W one
Legaia: Duel Daga - PrimaGames Guide
Were there guides made for Dragon Valor, Vandal-Hearts, Monster Rancher 2, Koudelka, Okage: Shadow King, Shadow Hearts, Suikoden III, or Eternal Eyes?
I was shocked when I went to ebay the other day and watch a Chrono Cross guide sell for $37, and a Dragon Warrior VII guide sell for $30!

Were there guides made for Dragon Valor, Vandal-Hearts, Monster Rancher 2, Koudelka, Okage: Shadow King, Shadow Hearts, Suikoden III, or Eternal Eyes?
There isn't a guide for Suikoden III as i was told by a fella collector out of Japan.
A master list of guides for RPG's would be awesome, but we should classify them from the system instead of who made it.
Ex:
(P) = Prima
(B) = Brady Games
(V) = Versus
Only guides i have that are for RPG's are:
PS2
Dot Hack 3 Brand New (B)
Front Mission 4 (B)
Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits (B)
GC
Tales of Symphonia (B)
GBA
Fire Emblem (x4) (anyone want one)
Not sure if you would consider Silent Hill an RPG but i found this

Correct, for some reason no guide made for Suikoden 3 was made.
I'll go through all my guides later. :)

I have been collecting guides to games for close to 4 years now, and I have amassed close to 3,000 guides. I have sold alot to collectors here, and have kept mainly my rare ones. I will post a list in the next week, have a few tests to study for now.
There was a Koudelka guide, I have one.

Were there guides made for Dragon Valor, Vandal-Hearts, Monster Rancher 2, Koudelka, Okage: Shadow King, Shadow Hearts, Suikoden III, or Eternal Eyes?
I have the Koudelka and Okage guides myself, as you can see. There is also a Vandal Hearts guide, and it's a B&W one by Prima. Same people that made the B&W ones for Suikoden, Beyond the Beyond, and Wild Arms...same style. I would have sworn I had the Vandal Hearts 2 guide but I don't see it on my shelf...may be back in my stack of stuff in Oregon. Suikoden III never had a guide...it was cancelled because the release date was missed.
I don't know about Eternal Eyes (but I doubt it) or Monster Rancher 2, but I KNOW that Shadow Hearts didn't have a guide. I'd have it if it did! :D I've been looking and never seen one :(

Actually, I found my Front Mission 3 guide in the wild...one of the few I didn't buy off the net or when they came out. I think I paid $10 Cdn for it. Might have been $8.

Hm...off the top of my head:
The good import stuff:
PC-Engine
Not here yet but...Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo :)
Mega Drive
Langrisser
A bunch of Shining Force guides for games across the series
SFC
Super Genjin (Bonk) 2 (Bah, one page is taped in and another's missing a corner...pretty decent shape otherwise. Cost me $8 so eh.)
Japanese Saturn
Biohazard (+paper strip)
More Shining Force Guides
Japanese PSX
G-Darius (AWESOME guide. Takahashi Shoten made. I think the Biohazard guide is from them too. That one's also amazing to look at.)
Metal Gear Solid Perfect guide (red)
Japanese N64
Akumajo Dracula Mokushiroku (decent but bereft of fan-pleasing artworks and such, boo)
Yuke Yuke! Trouble Makers (starts out color and then becomes black & white on somewhat cheap non-gloss paper for the last bunch of stages...lol)
SNES
Super Game Boy guide (personal favorite)
Super Mario RPG official NP
Super Mario Unauthorized (Prima...pretty sure about that)
Super Metroid (x2 har)
US PSX
Tenchu...pika pika pikatenCHUUuu
Threadz of Fate
GC
F-Zero GX NP guide
Metroid Prime guide along with Metroid walkthrough by Zach Meston
PC
Heretic by Ed Dille (he's got an acknowledgement in there for Al Kunkel and Arnie Katz, cool!)
Some other stuff I don't remember, too, especially for the SNES. Hm.

btw, was there ever a guide for Mega Man Legends 1 and 2?
I have a guide for the first Mega Man Legends. It's Prima Games, ISBN 0-7615-1871-1, published in 1998. If you put the number into Amazon's search box it will come up. I couldn't find a listing for a guide for MML2.

Is there an online database on this site or elsewhere that lists game guides? I found the Publications section of the online rarity guide but it looks like it has magazines but not books.
I'd be willing to help complile a list if no one's working on one. I've got over 400 console game guides plus other books related to gaming all catalogued. If someone already is, I'd be glad to send the data I have.

All right folks. This IS going to be an ongoing DP official project. It's gonna be a toughie though..I'm shooting for ALL guides. I'm going to get a database going in the next couple days, as soon as I address some minor formatting questions. At that time I will be taking submissions of guides that any and/or all of you have in your collections. I'd prefer to start with stuff people actually have and can prove they have if I need to and stuff that's come out in the last few years, then we'll work our way to the obscure stuff. I expect this to take a WHILE, so please don't PM me about it. I will be putting a post into the Collector's Guide & Rarity Database forum when i'm ready to get up and running.
Information I will be needing:
Full title of the guide
Publisher
Binding (i.e. softcover, hardcover, other)
Extras (came with a poster? Stickers? etc?)
Color or B&W?
Submissions can be in pretty much any format that's PC native, but I'd prefer Excel, Word, or plain text. Easiest to fiddle with. If you don't have all the info...well...we can always fill in blanks later!
I may need a couple of people to help me out on this one...will probably ask for a volunteer or two to help me with it if anyone has some time to donate....especially if you're on AIM/ICQ/MSN so we can coordinate online. All help will be greatly appreciated! I want to be as thorough as possible with this...as to my knowledge no one has even TRIED to do it...and it's a TON of material! Especially with how fast guides come out these days.... *shiver*
Anyway, once we get a significant portion of the database done, it will be compiled, edited, and submitted to the Rarity Guide for everyone's general consumption :D Yay!
So hang onto your hats, cause we're gonna build another DP exclusive...from SCRATCH! :rocker:
