Just a friendly warning. Reseal - pretty obvious IMO but just in case anyone was considering

I didn't know how you were able to tell at first, I mean other then the missing hang tag it could of maybe passed due to a poor quility pic. That is till I saw that the box was clearly opened once, Noticed that in the second picture he clearly pressed in the top flap to far and you can see a little of the white from the inside showing.

What's scary is that other than the top being pushed too far down, that looks really good (at least to me). I would NEVER know it wasn't factory sealed by looking at the horizontal line on back, cause it looks pretty good to me. Good thing I don't buy sealed games.

well, that's why you don't by expensive games with crappy pics..

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

How would the seller have gotten that horizontal seal to the back if it is re sealed? It looks pretty good to me, but if I was bidding I would probably ask for better photos. Couldn't the top be pushed in by someone pushing on it through the seal? Also couldn't the seller shake it upside down and get the contents of the box to push the top flap back out?
Did the seller end the listing early, or did it end with no bids?

Same seller just had Wild Gunman listed about 2 days ago and ended it b/c it was no longer available. I speculate he received offers he could not refuse.

Just because its like this doesnt mean its not factory sealed. It might have been squeezed or something while laying in a store-room with other games.
As for the ending part, he might just have sold it somewhere else. But i agree, if he had another factory sealed game out and also ended it, it might be something fishy

Give me a break. Why do we have to have this discussion every single time (don't mean to pick on you or rpepper in particular). Trust me when I tell you that those are not factory sealed. They just AREN'T. Anybody who's bought a few legit games would agree.

Ok, I will have to trust you, because I have not purchased any sealed NES games. The only thing I point out is that the horizontal seam on the back would be pretty hard to fake. I work at a local computer store (CompUSA) and we have a shrink wrap machine in the back. I have also worked at a local video store (Hollywood Video) that also had a shrink wrap machine. In both cases the shrink wrap system used was a tubular celophane that you stuck the item inside of and then head sealed both ends. Then you took a industrial super hot hair dryer and shrunk the cellophane to the package. It looked good for used movies that you were trying to resell, or merchandise that was returned and was still 100% complete so you could sell again. But it was very obvious that it wase a re-sealed item.
So what I am saying is can someone who knows alot about sealed NES games, or the original process in which Nintendo sealed their games please explane the horizontal seam on the back of this game? I am not calling anyone out, it just appears like this game (crappy photo and all) is officially factory sealed, other than the top which was pointed out eariler in this thread. So, how did they do it, and how can collectors be on the lookout for this type of re-seal?

how can collectors protect themselves? see my post re: not buying expensive games with crappy pics.
I'm sorry but I can't take the time right now to write a lengthy post about how to watch out for reseals. Best advice would be to find a friend with experience buying legit games.

PS if people out there can fake a van gogh, trust me they fake a horizontal seam. It's not the be all end all, there are other things to look for. cheers.

I don't know, the pics look fine to me. They could be a LITTLE bit closer, and a couple more from other angles, but it looks real to me. :hmm:
But then again I've always said people are nuts to collect sealed games. LOL

I believe I've heard that the most common way to fake seals on a SNES and NES game is with a pencil (don't ask me what you actually DO with the pencil).

Im assuming that you somehow heat up the tip of the pencil and drag it along the back, thus melting the plastic and creating a seam? That is a 100% guess in the dark.

I think that the "pencil trick" is where you draw the line on the back. Then it shows up in your listing photos. However when the winning bidder gets the game it is obvious that it is not a seam. This would probably be a stupid way to do it due to the fact that under closer inspection it is obvious you have been ripped off. But I could see people trying anything to make something look more genuine.

Hey, I am glad you put this on here. I also saw this auction, before it ended, and was going to post it too.
Definately a reseal. Just because it doesn't have a hangtab though people doesn't mean it's resealed. The lines (seams) in the plastic are too thick. Obviously a reseal!!

I agree that its a reseal , the lines down the side are awful :/

yep. box edges on the sides look kinda worn too. hangtab is loose. lid is pushed in. the only thing that keeps this piece of crap from being mind numbingly obvious is the faraway pic - which is pretty much this eyesore's only saving grace.

Now that I think about it, that is a pretty weird way to take a pic of something you are trying to sell for hundreds of dollars :hmm:

That's probably because someone probably bought it off of him out of EBay, no doubt for a high price.

I guess it's just a wait and see if the seller receives negative feedback. If he's scamming people, it'll catch up eventually.

He won't get a negative over either of these, because he sold them outside ebay.

No, it just means he ended both auctions early to sell it outside of ebay. Nothing fishy about that.

Well, if you know (not you personally) nothing about sealed games, it's hard to tell. But when you collect them and have bunches of them, YOU CAN EASILY TELL! I mean I am no expert, but have alot of sealed games, espcially NES am can usually tell if it's a reseal in a couple of seconds.
It's hard to just jump right in and tell certain things about sealed games, when your a first time collecter of sealed games. But when you have seen hundreds of them, things become ALOT EASIER!

He had more than 2 up, there were around 5 sealed NES games originally. All were taken down. He did sell a sealed Super Metroid last week for $100+ wonder if it was original or not. I think if nothing else at least the boxes look to be in good shape. ;)

Well it's official. Turns out the person who bought them is someone I know. They are all fake. He got burned for 575 for five games including mach rider and apparently the person who bought wild gunman got burned for 500. They are touched up with black marker to hide the creases and have bad seams. I will post pics later if I get permission from the owner.

This is a perfect example of why not to ask a seller to close an auction early to make a deal on the side. How much help do you think eBay will be in resolving this?

Were they rookies in the sealed game buying business? I mean come on, ALL of them were pretty much guaranteed to be resealed! The pictures suck! I really feel for them though, losing out on that much money!
A couple of things I LIVE BY WHEN BUYING SEALED GAMES:
-Seller must have say around more than, uh, like at least 50 feedback points.
-MUST have almost ALL positive feedbacks - give or take alittle, I know someone with 5000 feedback will have a few neg. maybe.
-I need at least a picture of the front and back, and hopefully more of the sides
-I usually email the seller when buying an expensice sealed game, if his response is quick and friendly I feel good. When it's a timely response and a half line answer when I asked like 5 questions = No buying from me.
-Won't buy outside of ebay unless I know the person.
Sorry for going on so long, its just knowadays, since everyone knows about ebay, the frauds come out, and I and everyone else on here has to be careful of what they do when buying their sealed games.

I am almost positive NONE! I mean it was outside of ebay, so there is nothing they can do.

You really think they'd do anything even if it were sold through ebay?

Ha. True. Well, I think you can file a complaint with either ebay or paypal, if that's how you paid, and get like half your money back. Also, if you paid by credit card, you can call them and file something I think. Either way, you can get at least half if not all your money back I think.
