Anyone have any idea if Nintendo is going to release a 3rd NES Classic Series for the Gameboy Advanced? If so, any rumors about what the titles might be? I just got a GBA and I love it!! Especially all the retro titles that are available. I'm even considering just using the GBA instead of my consoles, just because of convenience. I mean, I want a quick game of something, I can just sit on the couch and play.

No news about a third wave so far, though we are keeping our fingers crossed for Kid Icarus.

Exactly. There's really no good reason Nintendo didn't release that one here. They'll release crap like Ice Climber, but not Kid Icarus? Makes no sense to me....especially when it is known that KI has a relatively good following that isn't enormous only because Nintendo has never pushed the KI franchise very far.

I think it's stupid for them to release them. I want new games.. not someone just remaking an old game and charging money for it. I already bought Super Mario Bros for NES and I don't need the same exact thing for 50 systems.
I'd like to see what's in a cartridge though on the ROM.. it's probably just an NES emulation program.. if so maybe someone can rip the ROM and add in a different game of their choice.

If you really want Kid Icarus, it shouldn't that much more expensive to just import the JP version. I mean, of course you can wait for NoA to make a move, but importing GBA is pretty straightforward.

I love the entire famicom mini/gba classics series i finally have a full complete japanese set but what i really hate is the lazyness in the presentation in the west.
(Sorry folks i feel a rant coming on)
I don't know what the us versions are like but in the uk the quality is appauling. What makes it even more insulting is over here, the uk version is £15 but in japan its £10. They made all that effort in releasing the nes sp with a fantastic japanese style box & then they let it down with poor games boxes.
The uk boxes are made from the cheapest cardboard imaginable even cereal boxes have better card. Now there's nothing the can do about the original nes box artwork but they could have at least made highly detailed miniature replicas of the nes boxes like they did in japan with the famicom mini series.
Heres a pic to see just how lazy they were, on the left the oversized uk version & on the right the tiny perfect replica.

(end of rant)
And seeing as some of you like kid icarus heres some pics of the japanese version to keep you going till NoA pull their finger out & hopefully release it over there.

The carts in the final 3rd series are yellow to represent the colour of the original famicom disks.
The manual takes form as 2 sheets of paper, due to the size of the boxes this is understandable. The artwork is excellent & in full colour too.

Nice! I have a coupon for 5$ off my next purchase at play-asia. Maybe I'll pick up one of the Famicom releases... BTW, is the outside packaging a plastic shell or is it possible to open it without destroying it to get to the cart?

I'm pretty sure Nintendo said that they aren't going to put out any more of the classic series. They just didn't sell well enough...but at $20 a pop can you blame consumers. I'm a huge NES fan (probably my favorite system), but even I'm not going to buy any of them (unless they are super cheap).

The plastic outer box is not sealed, you can open & close it as many times as you wish.

Hey, I like Ice Climber! That's the only Classic NES Series game I bought!
If you ask me, the worthless one was Donkey Kong. The NES version is missing a level. Why would you want to reissue that? Super Mario Bros. was a bad idea too because of SMB Deluxe for the Gameboy Color.
There, that's my rant.

And Metroid since it's already included in Zero Mission.
I would have loved for Nintendo to bring over some Japan-only games like Nazo no Murasame jou but I knew it was too much to ask.

Do mean to pick up LOZ sometime...

Well, Ice Climber *does* have a following....
But, you're right-a lot of the games in the NES Classic Series have been dead weight-specifically the entries from the Arcade Classics Series (Donkey Kong and Pac-Man). Kid Icarus hasn't been ported because the NES version is a bit different from the already-ported Disk System version-significantly so, in fact, when you consider the ending requirements. The Zelda games and Castlevania are almost identical from their Disk System equivalents, so they got the reissue treatment first.

Hmm, what's different about it exactly? Cause I've been playing the GBA import version, and it seems a lot harder than I remember.

If I had the money, I might very seriously consider buying Castlevania, The Legend of Zelda II, Kid Icarus, Metroid and Super Mario Bros. 2 from the third Famicom-Mini set. Then again, perhaps I should buy a Famicom Disk System and use Brad Taylor's FDS transfer tool to play them on my Famicom.

I have SMB, Zelda, Dr. Mario and Ice Climber. I also have an imported SMB. I got it before Nintendo announced the US versions. Also, I knew even if Nintendo had brought it over, the packaging would suck in comparison. So I got the cool Japanese one. AND the US one. Hell, if it weren't for myt lack of being able to understand Japanese, I'd ONLY import them. But whatever.
If they decide not to bring more over, I plan on importing a few more. First is SMB 2. (Lost Levels.) I'd love the challenge. Next Kid Icarus. I never sat down with it and gave it a chance on a console. Only on an emulator. And for some reason, I just can't get into it on an emulator. Metroid neither. Mario Bros. as well. (Gotta have that good old original version.) I might also import that Pop 'n' Twinbee game. Boy I wish they'd bring the arcade version to the US in some sort of compilation. Great music, great graphics, unique design. I love it.
Other than that, I'll buy the NES Classic versions of all the rest, because if thy really are not going to make more, I can have a complete set. The first time I ever get a complete set of anything. What do I have like 8 US releases left?
I really wish they would make more though. I know it'll sound stupid, but I would LOVE perfect NES ports of SMB 2 (USA) and SMB 3. The GBA remakes just can't cut it. Sometimes we just want a little simplistic game play without all the bells and whistles. Besides, the sounds an NES generates seems to cheer me up than even the most perfectly regenerated SNES+ music. In other words, 8-bit music soothes me. Also, I've said it many times, but please don't stop making them until we at least get Dragon Warrior. While you're at it, Star Tropics would rock. Also.. God how I'd love Rad Racer. Especially with that one tune (As seen.. er heard in Strong Bad's Japanese Cartoon email.) playing. I'd become a pro. Oh, and while they're at it, RoadBlasters would be nice. Tetris.. (NES Original)
Super Mario Bros. was a bad idea too because of SMB Deluxe for the Gameboy Color.I disagree. The Game Boy Color version is far INFERIOR to the NES Classic one in that scrolling sucks ass. I'd rather have the full screen unmodified. God I hate SMB DX. It just was too early and too constraining. (I actually had it. I couldn't even play it with such a small screen.)
I think I covered most of the basics. I guess I'm saying, Nintendo, don't stop making them just because they don't sell at $20 each. At least do some more good ones before you retire the series. And to everyone who doesn't like them, DON'T BUY THEM IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM! Thank you. :)

Better get them for an NES then son. Emu is kinda what you are gonna get. I understand where you are coming from, but, it's still not the same thing.

Actually, I got two unrelated paragraphs merged here. I meant to say I'm importing those no matter what because I KNOW they won't be brought over. By "Bring more over" I meant more that the US originally had. By make more. Whatever. Yeah. I already plan on importing all those no matter what. :-P

I keep hearing over and over:
"Why did they release Metroid since it comes with Zero Mission".
Well, I am glad they did. Just having the original game is great. Pop it in, and it's JUST Metroid. I like that....
As for the series, I need two more to complete the current collection. I personally think it is money well spent, because of my love for these great classics. I sure hope they release more.

Back after Christmas, I was in Best Buy and they had Ice Climbers for $9.99. And a few others on sale as well. But I'm not sure which ones it was.

the carts have been dumped into rom form, yet there is no way to play them (yet) for some reason we cannot get them to work on emulator or actual hardware.
as for emulating nes on gba, thats old news, if you get a flash cart there are dozens of 8bit (and older) emulators, including a flawless nes emulator.
works great, you can even streatch the screen or play it in original 4:3 aspect ration.

Well I thought the Classic NES GBA cart that was a waste was Pac-Man. How times do we need to see this game, especially since there was already the Pac-Man Collection by Namco for the GBA.
As for the US versus Japanese versions, you have to keep in mind that most US consumers don't care about the GBA game boxes, and will throw them out. The majority of people here in the US are not collectors, but rather kids who throw out the boxes and just play the game. So Nintendo probably doesn't want to spend as much money on the packaging over here.

just a normal NES game, nothing really added...except I noticed in SMB 1 and 2 you can save where you left off (World 2-1 as an example) Just press select and choose "Save Score"....then when you come back to the game...hold down Select and A...then press start

All of them have batteries in them for saves. Doesn't seem like much but it really helps out in games like Metroid and Castlevaina so you can continue from where you left off.

Well, I doubt Nintendo of America is going to release any of the titles they already decided not to earlier, so if there are going to be more, Nintendo of Japan is going to have to release more first. As far as I know, they're done, so that's that.
The only one I have is the Famicom Mini Zelda 1, and it's cool. :) I still need to get the TwinBee one, though. The original Famicom copies that occasionally show up on eBay all appear to be pirates.

they really shouldve released Punch Out. i loved that game. it was just such a memory in my original NES gaming era. and releasing Tecmo Super Bowl wouldnt hurt any. 8-)
but in all fairness, they shouldve released Punch Out. i talk to people at my school about it all the time. they loved it. and then i bring it into the school on a CD-R with the emulator on there and we play. i had to do that because you cant install anything.
