According to the article (CLICK ME! (http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/20050120p2a00m0dm012000c.html)), she was pissed that he broke up with her. So, using his ID and password, she deleted all of his possessions in some online massive multiplayer RPG. Wow. That's funny. And harsh. But mostly funny.

It's a pathetic and funny story at once...

It figures.

In America, whenever you're mad at your ex, you key their car. Or leave obscene messages on their answering machine.

In Japan, you delete their RPG character.

:P

"The woman and the man reportedly met each other through the game in the autumn of 2003, and started a relationship, actually meeting each other, but they soon broke up, police said."

I can't believe charges were pressed!

That guy must have been pissed. I'm suprised and at the same time I'm not that Japan has a law against that type of stuff.

I'm surprised the court took this case seriously lol

Why? All the guy has to do is show the judge a few recent news reports where people have sold items from online games for real money on eBay. Then I guess he just needs to get a magical elf to determine the items worth. Instant cash.

I have to assume that it is not so much of deleting his game as it is deleting his data. I am sure if your ex came over a deleted your hardrive on your PC you might be able to press charges.

That and

Police reported the woman, of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, to the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office accusing her of violating a law banning illegal access.

So, I guess it wouldn't really be specific to an online game, just getting into an account that did not belong to her. Probably applies to mail accounts and that type of stuff.

I don't really play any online RPG's now, but if someone would have done that to me back in my Diablo 2 days... whoo man, watch out.

What do you tell a woman with 2 black eyes?

Nothing, its too late she already deleted your Everquest items.

HAHAHHAHAH

This story is hilarious. Easily one of the nerdiest cases ever to appear in court. This is why I play retro games that don't even have a save feature. LOL

I guess you could consider murder just deleting people. HAHA, get it?!

And yeah, I think that's hilarious. Share your password with people you trust... break up with person you trust, then you change your passwords.

To the "victim": HA-ha.

I was into one of those MMORPG's for a while (www.runescape.com), but that was while I either didnt have a job or my work schedule was 2-2-3 (which gave me lots of free time). Ever since I got a M-F 9 to 5 job, I havent played it at all. I could see how that guy would be pissed tho. Lots of time put into getting stats and junk like that... LOL Funny story though

'Twas Julian Dibbell who wrote an interesting article a while back proposing that MMORPG items could be tax-deductible...
