I'm thinking about trying out WoW, but I'm not sure if it would run on either of my systems, so I'm in need of thechnical advice. Here's what I have

HP Laptop with:
Win Xp Pro
PIV 2.8
512MB Ram
64Mb intergrated video

Mac
OS 10.3.6
800mhz G4
768MB SDRAM
32MB Ati radeon video card

Buying a new comp or parts is out of the question since that would be too exspensive for a laptop or MAC.

If WoW woun't run on either system would EQII run on the PC?

WoW should work on those as far as I know.

Both would run. EQII is very graphically intensive, so I'd be worried about your video card there (you can turn the quality to low though and be ok).

WoW would perform better, but again, I think you're still looking at low settings (assuming that integrated video card is an Intel 8855 or something similar).

The real big question is, could you find a copy of WoW. It's been recalled by Blizzard so getting through a retail channel would be extremely difficult (I just went looking for a copy for a friend and couldn't find a copy anywhere in Northern Colorado / Southern Wyoming). You could always buy it off of ebay or amazon or something, but expect to pay at least 80 dollars for a regular, or at least 200 for the collectors edition through those channels.

So, depending on your circumstances, you may have to go with EQII now or wait on WoW for later.

Why was it recalled?

There are also several forum posts active now talking about this in some form or another.

You can still buy it direct from Blizzard at their site. Both computers should run it just fine.

Incorrect. They aren't shipping any more than whats currently available, there was no recall. ebay is likely your last resort as their servers can absolutely not handle the load.

I knew it would be busy, but I didn't think it was going to be this insane.

We (EB Games) just got a new shipment. Not a large one tho... our store only got 3, and they were gone real fast.

Which begs the question, why choose WoW over EQ2?

The first system.. noway man.. integrated video sucks..

"ATI Radeon" could mean over 50 types of cards but 32meg puts it at the bottom. I would say no because I've run WoW on a 32meg radeon 7000 at work and it was sloooooow.

Because I keep hearing that WoW is a lot better than EQII.

Maybe because they like it better than EQ2? Just a thought

My wife plays on a AMD Athlon 950 w 512ram and a radeon 7500 with 32Mb and it plays just fine. At low settings mind you, but just fine.

And I apologize, last I saw it was in stock in their store. It is not as of now.

Yeah, it's still debated if Blizzard asked the stores for a recall or just did'nt ship out any new copies, but paying through the nose online is the only way you can get the game for a few months until Blizzard decides how they want to deal with this mess.

Thank God I stuck with FF XI. ;)

I do know that Wal-Mart shows WoW as discontinued in their inventory system. EBGames and Gamestop would not comment on if it was recalled or not.

I'm not ruleing out that Blizzard is asking for copies back, but it is very possible that they are just trying to "sale-through" the remainder of what's out in retail.

If it were recalled I would've seen something in the daily company email to that effect, and the status code of WoW would have changed in our computers. I did not, and it did not, so I don't think EB participated in any recall, if any existed at all.

I honestly think that everyone sold out, and Blizzard sent out word that because of dealing with server space issues already, they wouldn't be producing any more for a while. Since EB and Gamestop will be restocked first, other retail stores that happen to carry some video games might well have written it off as discontinued for them.

The more I play this game the more I realize it's the best MMORPG I've ever played.. after guild raiding on the Horde and getting a few characters up but mostly my rogue I've come to realize I was trying to put EQ onto this game and the fact is this game is better then that EQ system.

It doesn't overly complicate itself, it's about beating the crap out of everything with a purpose.. protect the homelands.. In EQ it was all about the loot and high level raids. It's a better after work game..

and they seem to be fixing things all the time.. haven't had a login issue sense that day.

IT's not perfect but very few games that have to please 1000's ever are.
