Does anyone know if the SMS converter for the Sega Genesis is import agnostic, either physicaly by cartridge sizes or software lock-outs.

Also, I bought a Sega Genesis Golden Axe Classic, with the dark blue border around the artwork. Only later did I realize there was an original version with the artwork covering the entire front of the box. So I needed to buy it again to get what I was after. Now I'm interested in buying the JPN version of Golden Axe and the few pictures of it I am seeing have a light blue border going around the artwork. I don't want to repeat the same mistake I made on the US version. Is this the original JPN Golden Axe or do they have Classics there as well.

Thanks!
(Sorry I had to edit this. I spelled questions wrong! DOHHH!)

The Japanese Power Base convertor might not fit on a US/Euro system, but hardware wise (aside from size) they'll work on any region.

I think a US/Euro PBC should fit in a Jap Megadrive.

I get games to come up Japanese when i use my PBC with my modded Genesis.

As Raccoon Lad also stated, your only limitation would be the differing shapes of the cart slots.

As for "Golden Axe"...i've never seen a "classic" version of any game from Japan.

I wish I had worded the question better. It would have made it a lot easier for everyone to answere my question. I meant to ask if I use a North American Power Base Converter on a North American Sega Genesis Model 1, would I be able to play JPN or PAL Sega Master System games.
I take it there is a difference in cartrige sizes for these three regions. Can I assume that there is no region detecting software coding on the carts?
I'm asking because I have seen 3rd party adapters that allow you to play Sega Master System carts on any model (I'm assuming) Genesis. Because this adapter puts the SMS cart above the system, the carts size becomes irrelevant. But if there was region detecting code on the SMS carts, that would pose a problem.
Still, I want to thank everyne who answered my poorly worded question!

Interesting about about the Power Base Converter bring up Japanese text when used with a modded Genny though. I have a modded Genny and I could... No wait. I can't read Japanese!

Ohhh, and thanks for the info about there being no JPN Classic's. Takes a load off my mind.
regards

Its my understanding that outside of Japanese Mark III incompatability, that all MS games will work on any Master System in the world.

Actually, i never got Japanese text to pop up...i did get a display screen in "Outrun" that said "Mark III".

Same thing with a 32x, the games were never in Japanese (well, i dont own any that require reading any) but i did get the SUPER 32x screen to come up.

Not for the MD, yeah. That would be news to me! Back then companies just reprinted when they needed to, and the MD probably didn't sell out too often.

Japanese games are a different sized cart, and thus won't work on a US or European Power Base Convertor, but almost all other SMS games will (there's a few incompatible/glitchy games when playing Euro carts on a US system).
If you can track down a Japanese Mega Adaptor (JP version of the PBC), you'll be able to play Mark III games on any region Genesis/Mega Drive.

Sorry to hijack the thread like this, but if most SMS games play in both US and European consoles, does this mean that PAL games play at the wrong speed on a US console, and vice versa?
