If the search function isn't down, then I don't know how to use it. So, accept my apologies.

I was just thinking about how I used to be hardcore into the ASWD + mouse FPS control style, and my friend agreed. Recently, after playing a few hours of Halo or some other XBOX shooter, he pointed out that he actually prefers a good controller scheme to the old style of play. Strangely, I see what he means. You might need a little bit of Auto-Aim, but it feels better to pull that trigger button on the Xbox than it does to "click" someone's head off.

How do you guys prefer your control?

I dispise the mouse for any game the controller is far superior when it comes to gaming ...... it just feels natrual

For FPS, keyboard and mouse. I like accuracy and I hate autoaim, so it's best for me. I play my console FPS with autoaim turned off and it always takes me much longer to get used to the controls than it does with a PC FPS.

Keyboard and mouse here as well - the analog sticks on console controllers are way too imprecise for proper aiming imo :/

I'd challenge anyone to a 1:1 and be confident of my victory if I knew they were using a controller rather than a mouse + keyboard.

Besides the accuracy, it simply takes far too long to cycle through the weapons. 1-0 all the way!

The controller scheme has been the thing keeping me from playing Halo all this time. Until I got myself one of these..http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?products_id=5438
Now the game plays great! Althought if you follow the boards on that site, you can see there are a LOT of people that do not want this thing being used on Live. Oh well. x_x

Yeah, I go with mouse + keyboard. But I prefer using the mouse with my left hand, and using my right hand on the number pad.

Though I must say, stylus + d-pad control like in Prime Hunters for DS is a very close 2nd for usability.

i dont know how any one can choose a controller over a keyboard and mouse....controlls are just so much more free, i feel so constricted playing half life on DC with a controller compared to mouse and keyboard

Keyboard and mouse. But I despise the aswd keys. I'm just not very good at using them. I use full size arrow keys. Nice and separate from the toher keys, but close enough that I can use each function with ease. Of course I look funny with my keyboard practically falling off the left side of my desk, but who cares?

for fps keyboard+mouse is WAY superior, there's just no way to aim anywhere near as accurate with a gamepad, yes the trigger feels better, but that's not enough (well, it's good enough for single-player, but not multi)

i hate AWSD though, i play with the arrow field, right shift = jump, right ctrl = duck, enter=use, 0/ins = reload and the other function depend on the game, people always laughed on LANs when the say how i play, well, they laugh until i crush them

A long time ago when I first started playing FPS the only viable control scheme for FPS was pretty much Keyboard - mouse. The only variation that works for me is Keyboard - flight stick... better aim control... awesome feel of a pistol grip... but you sac turning speed vs the mouse. I'd probably buy an Xbox and the Halo games if I could find a way to use the 30 or so keyboards and mice I already own. The handheld control is just way too unfamiliar and cluncky for my taste - even when it is done extreamly well (ie Halo - Xbox)

Mind you now I was playing games like Wolfenstien (Grandaddy), Duke Nukem, Blood, Doom, Quake, The sorcerer FPS game (title escapes me at the moment... prequal to Hexen) and Triad. Hours poured into these games all with a keyboard and mouse... just seems wrong to throw a contoller to your buddy and suggest a deathmatch.

In terms for control in an FPS, the keyboard and mouse is king. I'll challenge anybody to a Quake 3 deathmatch on the Dreamcast where I have the keyboard/mouse and they have a controller.
The problem with the keyboard/mouse is that it doesn't lend itself to a couch/TV-based gaming setup. A controller with dual analog sticks is a pretty good substitute.
The DS touchscreen is pretty good in that regard as well.

That's what kept me from playing until I found this.....

LOL Controller for first person games. LOL LOL

Its hard to go back once you have expreienced the precise control of a Keybaord+Mouse.

Although i do admit using both when it came to playing "Vice City". Gamepad for driving, flying, and most running around. Keyboard+Mouse for those times when i needed great accuracy when firing. (plus the mini-gun is much easier to aim with a mouse.)

Controller, no doubt. I never did care for using the mouse. I agree with SS-EatBeast. Using the controller just feels more natural.

I don't play a lot of first person shooters on the PC, but I really have no preference. Although I do find myself looking at the keyboard to switch weapons. And that SUCKS!

Same here.
