Here are the sales figures from the most recent week:

http://www.jeux-france.com/news7963_top-ventes-jap--sem-n02-2005-.html

Ca is we there are there, the weekend and the signal of the sales in Japan is well there. This time there is change, the whole of the classification and figures are not any more the same ones, the festivals passed and that is seen. Nintendo leaves its place of leader with Sony which dominates high and strong with its two consoles. Nintendo DS, GameCube and both Game Boy Advance make an enormous fall on the level of their sales, since those are practically divided by two see even more. I let to you discover this table without waiting more.

1. Playstation 2 - 65.837 - [ 189.238 ]
2. PSP - 64.602 - [ 126.654 ]
3. Nintendo DS - 53.527 [ 162.088 ] O_O
4. Game Servant boy Advance SP - 18.289 [ 89.140 ]
5. GameCube - 7.475 [ 21.178 ]
6. Game Servant boy Advance - 588 [ 2.307 ]
7. Xbox - 506 [ 1.685 ]

If Nintendo does not have the form in the signal hardware, the firm of Kyoto catches up with itself amply in that concerning the softwares. Hardly Mario Party 6 it left signal 10, that the episode on Game Boy Advance takes, as of her first week of marketing, the head of the charts, preceding even the racing car of Polyphony DIGITAL, Gran Turismo 4. The two plays Nintendo DS present in this table are the same ones since a good number of weeks with Mario and Wario and in this combat, which opposes the two heroes to large moustache, it is Wario which carries it this week, while Mario is close to the exit of the boxing ring. If the PSP is sold so well this week it is that two plays pushed the Japanese consumers to get this little marvel of technology. It acts of Minna No Portable Golf and frankness Dysnasty Warriors celebrates it which goes always as well. Dragon Quest VIII throne more in first places for a long time, but that does not prevent it renting the sixth place and thus from always carrying out excellent scores each week. To finish, Metal GEAR Solid 3: Snake Eater is found in bottom of classification, close of the door of exit with a figure enough faiblard. Let us hope for that it goes back from there as of the next week, it would be a pity for such a chief of?uvre

1. Mario Advance Party - Game Servant boy Advance - 67.927 [ 67.927 ] 2. Gran Turismo 4 - Playstation 2 - 63.584 [ 843.380 ]
3. The Story of Hero Yoshitsune - Playstation 2 - 41.927 [ 41.927 ]
4. Wario Ware Touched! - Nintendo DS - 33.537 [ 575.069 ]
5. Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special - PlayStation 2 - 25.264 [ 299.989 ]

I don't think it's anything major. It's one week, this was bound to happen sooner or later.

As for the big picture, as of 12/21/04. Nintendo has sold 1 million units each in America and Japan. As of 1/21/05, Sony has sold only 800,000 in Japan with a US release still pending.

You didn't mention the fact that those 800,000 PSP units sold represent a complete sell-out. Sony is underproducing the handheld, and it is expected that that number would be significantly higher if production met demand. Next week: a comparison of apples and oranges. x_x

In fact, here's a direct comparison of the current sales of the two systems which were released weeks apart, thereby giving the DS the obvious early lead in total sales. As you can see, the PSP outsold the DS for the week. HERE. (http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000803028873/)

Thanks for the link. That DS expansion module sure explains why the PSP is selling so well!
