Inhabitants (http://www.goatstore.com/info.php?id=372010) and Maqiupai (http://www.goatstore.com/info.php?id=372020), two new Dreamcast games have made their debut.

Some more information about the games:

Inhabitants by S+F Software

Inhabitants is a puzzle game that will put your skills to the test as you work your way through level after level of tile clearing action! Play with three friends in competition mode or play by yourself and unlock many new modes of play. Inhabitants will have you thinking about how to remove tiles and get the best bonuses possible. With millions of opportunities to improve your old scores, Inhabitants will move into your thoughts for a long time!

Inhabitants will remind you of many other popular games where you need to remove tiles of the same color, only this time there is a twist – You can only remove tiles one away from the tile you are on. The maximum tiles you can remove is therefore five, and that will give you what is known as a four-way combo. Can you set up the board the right way to get tons of four way combos and get insane scores?

Maqiupai by JMD

Maqiupai is the classic game of Shanghai with a modern twist. You need to remove all of the tiles in each challenging puzzle before time runs out. You can only remove tiles that match and are free on one side to be removed. You’ll have to use lots of strategy to make your way through this variant of Mahjong that has also gone by the name of Shanghai.

What sets Maqiupai apart from the other versions of Shanghai that have been released is how the game is played – there are two modes to Maqiupai: Challenge and Time Attack. In challenge, you will set to the task of removing tiles as quickly as possible. You work as the clock works against you, counting down to your fate. Luckily, you have the use of Shinobi Jokers on your side – tiles that will clear the board of any other tiles like them. After you have unlocked a table in Challenge mode, you will be able to play it in Time Attack and compete with others from around the world by logging onto http://www.goatstore.com/maqiupai/ and submitting your highest scores!

For all you Dreamcast fans out there, I can also say that we expect there to be as many as 10 more releases over the next two years. We're currently working on preparing two more games for release in the next few months!

This isn't the mahjong where you play against another player (the kind that is often associated with adult/strip games), it's the shanghai variety where you match up the blocks to remove them from the pile. I can't get into the two player mahjong but shanghai is super addictive.

I received these during the week and will get to try them out this weekend.

Well Dan you can count on this gamer to put his money forth for these great games. I've been anticipating these since even before the coding contest ended so I'm super-stoked that they have finally been released. Just as soon as I get my next check I'm going to be sure to get both at the same time! Inhabitants just screams multiplayer and Maqiupai is classy majhongg with a capital CLASSY.

Besides, I love supporting the underdogs in any circumstance. In the video game world the small, independent underground games are always the underdog. But those games are where the real innovation is, just like their cousins the film house movies. ;)

By the way, do orders placed now still get that discount at the GOAT Store? I'm really hoping you guys get some PSX -> PC adapters soon. I want to hook my dance mats to my computer to play some serious pydance rhythm fun!

Personally, (and I'm obviously biased, but anyways...) I like this the most of any Shanghai game I've played, and I've been addicted to all types at one time or another -- Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, Saturn, Computer... The difference is that when you get a high score, the game gives you a code. You take that code to the Maqiupai web site and put it there, and you can compete with others from around the world.

There aren't many yet (beyond my scores ;) ), but you can view the current records here:

Sweet! I can't wait to hear about what you think of them both!

I agree completely. While both of these games aren't mindblowingly creative, we have some projects in the works that will probably qualify for that :)

For the discount coupon, if you ask (in comments, put down that 'DP sent cha' or something) and I'll send you one, even though that promotion is technically over. About PSX->PC adaptors, we don't carry PSX right now, and we don't carry PC stuff right now, so we probably won't be doing that any time soon... If I see any around, I'll make sure to PM you though.

I can a little...

GOAT Games Vol. 1 is going to be a compilation of games like a Midway Arcade Treasures or NAMCO Museum disk is... only all of the games will be homebrews, of course. You'll also be able to take your high scores from all of them and submit them to a high score chart online, like Maqiupai.

There will be some other goodies in there... Demos for the other games and a few hidden things, but that is pretty much the idea of it.

We hope to be in final testing for this by the middle of February. If you want to be a beta tester, we're running a contest for the right to do so by creating banners for our new Affiliate system. Details on that are here:

http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=61499

Another game that is nearing completion is a game that was named one of EGM's (I think it was them?) top three most anticipated homebrew releases when they covered Feet of Fury. I'm not supposed to let too much of the cat out of the bag on this one yet, but it should be announced officially by Monday.

We've also got at least two fully 3D releases in the works, some 2D platformers, 2D schmups, another puzzle game... bascially, a whole bunch! I don't want to say much about any of those until we get a lot closer to release -- Developing these games isn't anyone's full time jobs, and no one makes much, if any money from it... So release dates can slip, and I don't want to put pressure on them.

:) Thanks for the support everyone! It has most definitely been a long last eight months during the delay, but I got to learn a little how the legal system "works" and meet some very, very interesting people. I can assure everyone that the delays that happened on these two games will not be repeated in any future pressings too, based on that knowledge :D

Heh...

Yeah, I've got probably 800 of each left that I haven't thrown out yet... Why? Need some coasters?
