I'm surpirsed that this has never been discussed before.

We know pretty much all the games in US come with facotory folded cellophane seals. Speaking of US releases of current systems' games, PS2/XB/GC, I think we should all come up with list of games for those systems, I hope someone will keep the list, useful not only to collectors, but also those who want the games in absolutely best ocnditions. (ie: I [almost] only buy and keep new games in disc-based forms even for those just to play to assure myself of perfect condition discs).

With so many relealed game sellers on eBay, it's worth keeping in mind which games come in shrinkwrap forms, I'll edit the list periodically for new finds, those games are confirmed as I've seen them in more than one store/source.

Certain games come in both heat shrinkwrap and folded seal forms, such as Aquaman GC, Starsky & Hutch XB, those don't count. Feel free to provide additional games and I'll update the list (I'll look around and check of course).

Just to get this straight, you're saying that shrinkwrap type seals aren't a part of the list, but the GC titles listed have folded cellophane? Aright.

No, I meant the list here are the games in shrinkwrap forms from factory, otherwise the games have to have folded seal to be new/factory sealed. Very few games come from factory with shrinkwrap, that's my purpose of making this list during my game search, so let's share it.

How is one supposed to know the difference on the GC? My copy of Phantasy Star Online came with shrinkwrap around the case and a seperate little packet (with the GD-ROM inside) I picked up at the counter. Could have been factory done, as it had a clean edge, and then again it might not have been.

Edit: Never mind, I read more carefully this time. Again though...I say store re-seals are gonna cause some mischief here. If there are any GC titles that come with folded cellophane it would probably be better to list them as it seems there are more with shrinkwrap, it seems.

I've noticed actually that a decent amount of Xbox games are in the heat shrink wrap. A fair number are the smaller release Microsoft titles.

Ive not kept an eye on them as ive opened almost all my stuff.

I got a copy of Intellivision Lives for the Xbox in a Heat Wrapper...

But I think it is just stupid EB's resealed games.

List updated, I need to ask those of you who bought launch titles of Xbox and GC (also a few rare ones) in late 2001 and see if those games ever came in folded seal, as I've only seen those (lately) in heat shrinkwrap-

GC:

-NHL Hitz 2002
-all Star Wars games
-PSO Online Episode 1&2 (not Plus)

XBox:

-Dark Summit
-Genma Onimusha

Also these GC games come with heat shrinkwraps for original version, but folded seals when re-released with PC versions, again, I need to know if anyone who bought those at initial release ever saw those in folded seal form:

-Finding Nemos (edit: found original version in folded seal, so this gam eis off the ist)
-Namco Museum

The comments above-

Intellevision: ShopKo had it in folded seal, so it was EB reseal.

Guilty Gear X: Only one on XBox, and it's with folded seal. (update 1-24-05: I checked the stock at Rochester TRU, they all come with factory cellophane folded seal, in fact, the store has 8 copies in stock)

This is the reason I start this thread, for having better knowledge on what games in shrinkwrap forms are factory ones, which ones aren't. I'd disagree with the notion that most games come in heat shrinkwrap forms from factory unless you only buy games at Gamestop and EB, I look through TRU, K-Mart, GameCrazy, and best Buy, they're pretty consistent (in terms of those aforementioned titles), far majority of GC games (over 90%) and nearly all Xbox games (heat shrinkrapped ones are due to packaging errors), come in folded seal.

The biggest headache will be for GC collectors who simply want new games later on, however, all heat shrinkwrap have tinny holes all over them except Taz Wanted.

Star Wars: Rebel Strike was nto only heat shrinkwrap...it was shrinkwrapped *poorly*. We got in a shipment of about 20 and each one looked like they had been triple wrapped.

Guilty Gear X2 : Reload for the X-box comes in heat wrap for sure. I know this because every copy at TRU, where I got it, was heat wrapped, as well as copies at EB and Gamestop.

I'll double check when I go to TRU on Mon and update if necessary.

I think I came very close to all the factory sealed games with shrinkwrap for Gamecube, if anyone knows any more games, please share with us.

I have noticed these heat sealed shrinkwraped games with mostly GC games which I find surprising.

Another for the list was Sonic Mega Colllection origianl release. It has a seam along the back.

I bought new copies of:

Prince of Persia
Rogue Leader III

And never opened them because I thought they were re-wraps as the shrinkwrap looks so poor but judging by this list, this was normal???

Also Last Blade 2 for DC came heat sealed, I bought two copies from two different stores and both had the same wrap, it has a seam along the back as well.

Cheers,

Luke

I have original version of Sonic Mega Collection - GC, and it comes with factory cellophane folded seal, the same goes for Last Blade 2, I have 2 copies here that come with cellophane folded seal.

However, the heat shrinkwrap with vertical seam along the back (always on the left side) is also geniune factory heat shrinkwrap, I've noticed a few Dreamcast games (not too many, but namely Chu Chu Rocket, Wetrix, Skies of Arcadie, Jet Grind Radio [with French manual]) coming in both forms.

Lastly, 2 forms of factory seals come from Acclaim, first one has a vertical seam on the back and the seal itself is cellophane folded, I've seen this with certain Gamecube games, like Vexx as well as Acclaims' later Dreamcast releases. Another form is heat shrinkwrap which I have not seen on current systems' games, heat shrinkwrap with H seam on the back.

This is interesting, I have to buy my games from the US via the internet, I tend to use Tronix mostly but sometimes use The Rage as well. With the Sonic Mega Collection, I got that from The Rage and I even emailed Rudy and he said _alll_ Sega games came like that. The seam on the back was reassuring as you mentioned it signals that it was a factory seal.

With Last Blade 2, I got one copy from Tronix and the other a couple months later from The Rage and both had the heat seal shrinkwrap with the seal on the back.

I don't suppose you have some images we could see as well?

Cheers,
Luke

OK, I checked a few stores (for assurances too) and updated the list on my first post of the thread, please check again.

Earlier one asked about Guilty Gear X2 Reloaded Xbox, I checked my local TRU, it comes with factory folded cellophane seal, remember, if you see one single copy of a game I listed with factory folded seal, it'll be taken off the list. The list are for games which 100% of them sold at retail stores are heat shrinkwrapped.

I'm aware of the type of heat shrinkwrap Sega uses, vertical seam, some games are also on the front, however most are on the back, some Dreamcast games have both of these forms (heat shrink and folded seal).

From what I heard, some of the games were resealed by manufacturer when the original seals were in rough shape, making sealed copy, in original folded seal and in prestine shape, very hard, if not impossible, to find.

I can take pics of Last Blade 2 DC and Sonic Mega Collection GC with folded seal, PM me with your email and I'll send you the pics. In case you don't know, my LB2 - Dreamcast is on half.com now, and you guessed it, it's not cheap, I'll not even mention how much I ask for here.

Add these Gamecube titles to your list:

Beyond Good and Evil
The Simpsons: Hit & Run

I bought both of these brand new and they had the heat shrinkwrap. Btw, take note that the Simpsons Hit & Run I purchased was a non-Player's Choice version.

Also, I bought a Player's Choice version of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex at Best Buy last month and it had the folded seal.

Updated a few games as well as deleting some and adding others.

Quick ??, I have a new game here that the folded seal comes loose and open slightly, has anyone tried any type of glue(s) that when it dries, it remains clear, the open/loose seal just bugs the heck out o me.

I will also put a few people straight. I see far too many shrinkwrapped versions of games like Final Fantasy VII; Star Ocean II; Persona II; Metal Gear Solid; FF Tactics Etc.

I can state here now that they did not come like this - They have been resealed by someone at some time, and SHOULD all come with folded ends, not with three sided seals...

If you check out all the highest priced sealed games on ebay at the moment, pretty much most of them are shrinkwrapped... Ok, so the white security seal may still be unbroken, but the game case has been shop soiled, and the value lowered...

So, bear this in mind next time you go looking for a factory sealed Persona II or Star Ocean II (The two most commonly sold reseals)

I swear, if I was an eBay moderator, I would kick half these people's asses for being such dumbasses! And to think that some people actually believe shrinkwrap is original factory sealed!!!

Yeah, as far as I know there is no such thing as factory sealed shinkwrap.
I have never bought a shrinkwrapped game unless the price is better than usual, or I can't find a new copy and I am convinced it is NM inside.
Admittedly, I mostly buy older imports, many of which are extremely difficult to find pristine (if new or at all). I don't have the money to buy the stuff new, and I don't leave stuff wrapped anyhow.

The reason that I don't buy heat sealed games at all anymore is that I have gotten far too many scratched games that way. Certain stores have a habit of doing this constantly (though it does vary *slightly* from store to store, and I can't say I've checked anywhere near all of them for that, it would be a full time job)

There was a lawsuit about that I believe, but it certainly hasn't stopped from what I've seen.

If I'm wrong please let me know though, after years of seeing the difference between US and JP game packaging not much would surprise me anymore.

Now that I think about ii, it does seem like some of the games mentioned never seem to be stocked at Best Buy, but are available mall chains....
