I was thinking about ordering this, but I wanted to know if this is the official model. The packaging is very dubious and it just screams bootleg. Also, if this is indeed real, will it play American NGPC games?

Thanks for the help!

I believe it is. When SNK went out of business, they had a bunch of stock left over in their warehouses, so they released 6-packs like these. It's also the reason why loose NGPC games are dirt cheap, but complete ones are usually more pricey.

And it will play American NGPC games as well. In fact, the language setup isn't in the games, it's in the system itself. For instance, I have a Japanese copy of Neo Turf Masters, but it plays in English because that's what I have set up in my system.

It's legit and all NGPC games are region free.

Either way it's a sweet deal for that much!

I see them at GameStop all the time. Or at least I did used to. I'd been tempted once in a while as well. But none of the games ever appealed to me.

For that many games, it's not that bad. I'd pick one up for playing (but I'd get a regular boxed one just to have, as well...in fact if I had a good chunk of change lying around I'd be getting the Hanshin Tigers one).

Does this mean that if I play English games, they will play in Japanese because the system is from Japan?

Also, thank you for the help everyone!

Nope. Like I said before, it's what you set the system to. For example, when you turn on your system for the first time (or after you replace your sub battery), a screen will pop up saying "Do you want Japanese or English language?" Whatever you set it to is what the Neo Geo Pocket will use for any game being played on it, and all the internal menus as well.

Faselei!,Cardfighter's and both of the Metal slug games are all pretty decent. I have also heard that Neo Turf Masters and Ogre Battle (import) are good as well.

I really like the Sonic Pocket Adventure- exclusive to NGPC
and usually pretty cheap on ebay
The "metal slugs" are good too!

Supposedly Fry's and Outpost.com have the same deal for $49.99

Linkage (http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3822967?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG) The site is sorely lacking any useful info so I'd hit up the local Fry's and see if they have any in stock or contact Outpost.com for more info.

It's a sweet deal. I bought this package for $60 and two four-packages of cartridges for $20 each. Instant NGPC collection :D. I had zero experience with this system prior to doing this, but it quickly became one of my favorite handhelds ever. Definitely worth it.

I bought mine locally at Hastings, but their website says they're currently out of stock. Still it wouldn't hurt to see if there's one languishing in a game cabinet if you've got a local outlet.

This (link) (http://www.eplayplay.com/index.html) is the url from the packaging. It's a U.S. distributor so he might be a little easier on postage than dear old Lik-Sang. Good luck.

Yep, legit but there are other places others mentioned that sell it for a cheaper price.

Y'know, I've been wanting to find out myself. I read in a certain video game magazine that it's one of the weaker titles in the NGPC library, but, heh, you know how video game magazines are.

Is there a Cardfighters game that is in English?

I bought it at CGE. Meh. It's probably one of the best handheld baseball games you'll find, but if you're expecting a smaller version of the NES classic, you'll be a little disappointed. Again, still good to have.

Wait, are you telling me that retail stores still carry the NGPC? I have never seen one in the wild in my life!
