View Full Version : Best NES game - that has never been re-released?

So after the classic nes series, countless other reissues and "best-of" disks, what still has not made it on to any more modern console? We can pretty savely rule out most everyting Nintendo has ever done, all the Final Fantasy games, all the Mega Men, and a ton of others. So my question is what is the best game never to get an encore?

StarTropics. Underrated. Awesome. Must have NES Classic version! PLEASE!!!

Amagon.

I don't really have a lot to say about the game, it's either you hate the game, or you love to hate the game. I for one, find it extremely challenging. As for an encore, I think that just an updated version of the orginal would kick mucho ass-o! Maybe I'm just addicted to it because you can see the end of the game in the first screenshot. Perhaps. All I know is that I enjoy it, and don't know of any other version.

Yes, awesome series. I also don't think Crystalis ever got a re release, if not it deserves one, along with Kid Icarus and the Adventures of Lolo series.

EDIT: Nevermind, Crystalis was on the Game Boy. But now Mighty Bombjack comes to mind.

Faxanadu or Little Samson

(I was gonna vote for Crystalis, until I found out about the GBC version).

Psycho Mantis? Could you please make your avatar smaller? It's messing with the layout of the forum.

The original Bionic Commando. I would LOVE to see that version and the japanese version in a portable format on the SP or DS!

I say don't want them to re-release games. I don't want to buy some old game because designers can't come up with new ideas. I say stop bringing out re-releases and keep the originals in high demand so they go up in price.

Oh, and Psycho Mantis, can you cut down on the size of your avatar, please? It pushes the whole topic out.

Monster Party. God I love that game. I'd love to see a sequel or a remake. I wonder who owns the rights at this point, and if anyone besides me even cares. Hmm.

Chiller!

The original metal gear was re-released as part of the Japanese metal gear solid limited edition gamecube pack (loses breath)

I assume we are talking about rerelease in the US since some games mentioned have been rereleased overseas. I really wish Tecmo would release the Tecmo Hit Parade over here. So other than those games i would like a rerelease of

Wall Street Kid :)

Mendel Palace and Star Soldier. I know Star Soldier saw a GCN remake over in Japan (gotta get me a copy of that one!) but I don't know of any rerelease of it here in the states.

Berty: I love your avatar. I'm Sorry is the best Pac-Man clone ever. LOL

Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth came out here on the N64 in 1998.

My choice...Metal Storm!

Iīd like to see River City Ransom. Not the GBA remake, but the original on the Nes series (if they released Metroid why not?) or better, a new game on the new systems.

It could resurrect the beatīem-up genre by itself 8-)

Maniac Mansioin. What a great nes game. It is different but one of the only nes games in this style. Such a great game and a chalenging one at that the first time around.

Some of these have been re-released:

Metal Gear - Rereleased for the gamecube in japan.
Kid Icarus - Nes classics in japan
River City Ransom - GBA version (supposedly sucky)
Maniac Mansion - full copy as a game within Maniac Mansion 2 - day of the tentacle.

I think the winner so far might be star tropics. It's really hard to find games that haven't appeared in something else these days!

I think redoing (a modern version of) Ninja gaiden 1-3 and making them ONE GAME would be incredible. Keep the same story but redo the game 100%. Doesn't even have to be a side scroller ...could be 3d, though I'd prefer not.

Hell, fit the SMS and Genesis games in there if ya can...

Someone mentioned Princess Tomato. I believe it has been redone in Japan. I believe there's a seqel for GBA. It may even have other renditions for computers and such...I could be wrong but it may even be a semi-popular series.

As for Faxanadu, that would be heaven. I believe Faxanadu is a side story to the Xanadu series. Fa=Famicom. Famicom Xanadu. Xanadu was Dragon Slayer Part II, though I don't believe that Faxanadu is the same story or setting as Xanadu, at least it doesn't seem to be, little that I've played of Xanadu (language barrier). So if they were to keep that name, it wouldn't really make sense. Also, for all I know, the other Dragon Slayer games did continue this story. There have been many Dragon Slayer games since them, but most of the games in the Xanadu series never made it here. We got a bunch of the Legensd of Heroes stuff, which is fine, but I'd love to be able to play modern versions of any of these games. It kind of went like this: Dragon Slayer, Xanadu, Romania, Legazy of the Wizard (or DS IV, the Drasle (pronounced Dra-slay) Family), Sorcerian, and then I think the Legend of Heroes stuff starts...could be wrong.

But yeah...Faxanadu would rock....

We definitely need a Cryastalis an Bionic Commando remake and/or sequel.

Someone mentioned Star Soldier for the N64...isn't that like the 5th or 6th game in the Star Soldier series?

River City Ransom for GBA is not sucky, itīs a good remake, but lacks some of the "magic" the original had.

My vote would have to go for:

Journey to Silus

I picked this game up at flea market a few months back along with fourty-some-odd others. I played it ans instantly fell in love with it, with out a doubt one of the best on the system.

I have to agree with these:

Faxanadu
The Guardian Legend
Monster Party

As they were some of my favourites when I was younger!

Hmm, lets see... what about that one where you are a penguin and you jump over stuff? lol or was that just Famicom?
