Something I'd like to include for our database, when games simply were never packaged with shrinkwrap. We did some of this research while working on Manci Games and Video Game Collector (for example, first-party ColecoVision games were not shrinkwrapped) but I'd like to get them all together for posterity. I couldn't think of a group more likely to catch the ones we've missed :)

More recent releases that have boxes aren't shrinkwrapped. Do they count?
Mario Party 6
Resident Evil "Pure Evil" Pack
Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures
Dangerboy

Hey Joe,
Off the top of my head:
- Later release game.com games were clam-shelled (Frogger, Scrabble, etc)
- Neo Geo carts were only sealed with the sticker covering the right side open area.
- Steel Battilion XBOX only had Capcom Duct Tape keeping it closed.
- R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Limited Edition wasn't (at least the outer box wasn't)
- Lunar 1, 2, and Arc the Lad PSX outer box were only sealed with stickers
- Syphon Filter Omega Strain PS2 and Star Ocean PS2 were sealed, but they were only held within the cardboard slip case by two very small circle shapped stickers, thus the outer shell wasn't SW'ed.
Hope this helps,
Jason
who thinks we are stretching this just a wee bit too far.... O_O

R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Limited Edition wasn't (at least the outer box wasn't)
same type of deal with Star Ocean: Till the End of Time,Growlanser generations delexe and Dockey Konga. Also, I don't know if your counting imports, but SFC games I think were not sealed.

From what I can tell, SuperVision games were sold in blister packs, not shrinkwrapped. Does that count? Game.com games were also sold that way. Actually, Game.coms were sold that way, too. Eventually.

well, i'll just list all shrinkwrap information i have about european/german libraries:
Nintendo:
Gameboy: no idea
Gameboy Color: at least some newer releases (maybe Nintendos own?) are sealed
Gameboy Advance: afaik all Nintendo Games are sealed, some-most 3rd party are too, there are unsealed ones though!
NES: it's usually said that the EU games were not sealed, and i can't remember them being sealed too (i was very young then though...) but i have seen some sealed SPANISH nes games (i've seen Zelda and Maniac Mansion) on ebay and some french ones too (they seem to be legit)
SNES: usually sealed, france had some blister packs (Terranigma, SoM, Mystic Quest... ususally the rpgs with guide)
N64: no idea
Gamecube: all sealed (even the one unlicensed game)
Sega:
MS: no real idea, i always though they weren't sealed but had a SEGA sticker on the side as a seal
MD: some as MS but i've also seen sealed MD games iirc
MCD: all sealed
32X: cd games: all sealed, ea games (in the plastic cases): all sealed, cardboard-boxes: not sealed
Saturn: no idea
Dreamcast: all sealed (except Samba de Amigo, Sega Bass and the one with the microphone (can't remember name LOL ) maybe)
Sony:
all systems libraries sealed
for other systems, i have no idea...

If we're talking imports, then nearly all boxed games weren't seal. In Japan, it's usually only been the disc games that were sealed (mostly because they needed something to hold the spine card to the package).

Yeah people make the mistake that Virtual Boy games in Japan were shrinkwraped - they weren't.
Oh and US games
GameCube
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Pokemon Box
Mario Party 6
Batman Rise of Tsin Zu Limited Edition (something like that)
All those games were never shrinkwrapped because the come in larger scaled boxes.

Actually in US the only games not sealed are those microphone, 2 games, Aliefront Online and Seaman, however when you open the box, the game itself in jewel case is sealed.

Were the Japanese NGPC games [clamshell] shrinkwrapped or not? I'm not quite certain on that.

The Japanese games were unsealed cardboard boxes (and possibly unsealed clamshell, but every true Japanese release I had though my store was cardboard boxed). The Asian games were unsealed clamshell cases. The US were shrinwrapped cardboard boxes.

All old-style case Neo Geo games came with a large transparent Neo sticker-seal to indicate the games were new.
Post-Fatal Fury 3 (1995), the clamshell case games came new with a much smaller colored sticker sealing the clam part shut. But SNK ran out somewhere around KOF 98, and new Neo games have lacked it ever since.

Actually the same sealing sticker was still on even with snap lock cases until 96-97, I've bought new games as recent as 1997 that came with the same sealing sticker right below the snap lock on the side.

So 96-97 is somewehre around the release of KOF 98, yes?

As hydr0x said, all European SMS games and mostl PAL MD games were just sealed by the 'Sega' stickers, not with shrinkwrap.

Spanish games weren´t sealed. I´ve seen also Zelda and Maniac Mansion, but I think the seller seals them (he also has Battletoads, Rad Racer and TMNT on his store)

There were quite a few 3rd party companies who manufactured games for the VCS that were not shrinkwrapped. Off the top of my head, 20th Century Fox titles were not shrinkwrapped, but were simply glued shut.
I don't remember ever seeing a shrinkwrapped Glib from Selchow and Richter.
How about Commavid titles, did those come shrinkwrapped?
Dangerboy

I just remembered...
Incredible Hulk on GBA (based on the movie) was not sealed, but stickered shut, allowing the viewer to open the front panel a la a PC game and view the 'free comic".

I don't think Taiko Drum Master is shrink wrapped.
Do you mean the large outer box or the game itself? The outer box is but I haven't opened it yet so I don't know about the game.

I'm wrong then cause I was talking about the large outter box.
Also it's been a while since I opened it, but I think the actual Donkey Konga game on the inside of the box was shrink wrapped.

The outer box was just closed with a few stragetically placed stickers. The game itself was shrinkwrapped.

I know the 20th Century Fox black box games weren’t shrinkwrapped, but do you know if the Sirius-Fox games were or not?
I don’t think all the first party VCS games were shrinkwrapped either. I had a sealed Codebreaker in the gray box that was not shrinkwrapped.
Mythicon: None of the games were shrinkwrapped.
Starpath/Arcadia: All shrinkwrapped except Sword of Saros and Survival Island which I believe came in Ziploc-type baggies.
I don’t think all the first party VCS games were shrinkwrapped either. I had a sealed Codebreaker in the gray box that was not shrinkwrapped.
I also have a gray box Realsports Volleyball that is sealed in shrinknwrap, so I guess it isn't all gray boxes.

I bought Real Bout Special in 1997 and it came with sealing sticker, not sure about games at the end of 1997, but when I got Last Blade 1 US version, it only came with a tiny Neo-Geo color sticker, this might have been the first game SNK put tiny color sticker, or it could've been KOF 97.
Other systems which new games aren't sealed, NGPC in clam shell cases (need to confirm)

Things like Pokemon Stadium, Zelda: Four Swords, FF Crystal Chronicles, Hey You Pikachu all have the official circular stickers over th flaps...
Steel Battalion's have their outer brown box with official Capcom tape on them.
And then there is the whole mystery regarding Eldorado Gate Episode II...
