Not a stitch of English on the cart or box anywhere except "1989 Homedata/Namcot LTD." on the box and "1987 BPS, Edge Computers, LTD." on the cart. I also don't have an instruction manual (but would love one if someone has one for sale :D ). Anyone have any ideas? It looks like Othello, but, well, it's not. Also, since the dates are different on the box and cart, do they actually belong together? Help!

It sorta looks like a bootleg to me. "Namcot" is not a real company. "Namco," however, is. It looks to me like someone was trying to use their name to sell a homebrew game.

Also, the game that the videogame is based on is called "Go," an ancient Japanese game. If you are into manga, try reading some "Hikaru no Go." It is a series that revolves around the board-game.

Gah! Go!! My wife and I have been racking our brains trying to come up with that name for days. I've heard of the game and know the VERY basic idea, just forgot the name :embarrassed: . Well, that's one step closer. Thanks! Anyone else?

Namco actually went by Namcot in Japan for a whille, so it's probably legit, even though all I see is a red X

"Namcot" is not a real company.

Yes it is...well, was. Namcot was Namco's "original" name, and they name they used in Japan until sometime during the early '90s. I've got two Megadrive games with their name spelled like that on them.

...I'd try to help you out, but the image isn't showing up. :/

Your box says something like Fast-Strike super Go, sohuchi suupaa igo. I can't read what's on the cart because it's too small.

'scuse the ROM usage here, but I find in GoodNES:
Igo - Kyuu Roban Taikyoku

Title screen matches the logo on the cart -- no mention of Namcot or Homedata, though. It's definitely Go. :)

The game is called go. It is like asian version of checkers. Although, it is much more strategic/difficult to master. Or so I hear.

it is mentioned in the book game over. The guy that secures the rights to Tetris plays it with the head of Nintendo, IIRC.

/me loads up FCE Ultra and plays "Igo - Kyuu Roban Taikyoku" ROM

This is DEFINITELY the game. When I play the ROM, just before the title screen shows up, "BPS" pop up as well as "1987 BPS, Edge Computers LTD." which is exactly what is printed in small print on the cart. I don't have a Famicom system, so I'm relying on visual aids and dumb luck.

Success! Thanks everyone!

um...anyone have a spare Igo manual to sell...cheap? :D
