View Full Version : Import only beat-em-ups

Help me out here guys. I'm looking for beat-em-ups that were released in any other country than the US but only if they stayed there! If they came out over here, than it doesn't count. Any console is fine, just no computers. Oh, and by beat-em-ups, I mean Double Dragon/Final Fight style, not one-on-one stuff like Street Fighter.

I've got a small list going:

Double Dragon 2 (Mega Drive, Duo)
Golden Axe 3 (Mega Drive)
Iron Commando (SNES)
Ghost Chaser Densi (SNES)
Ninja Gaiden (Mega Drive)
Undercover Cops (SNES)

Uh, I'm confused. Don't you mean beat em ups only released in Japan?

Crows (Sega Saturn)

There ya go. Ho-hum game... a nice little effort, but the 100+ dollar demand is too high.

Or Europe or Australia or China... whatever. If it didn't come to the US, I want to know about it.

Personally, I'd be alot more interested in a list of one-on-one fighters for the Saturn myself, but then that would be thread jacking, so I'll refrain. But this should've been posted in Import Mania, so don't be surprised when it gets moved there. I can't think of any off the top of my head right now. Most of the fighters like that make it over here without any problems, or with only minor revisions. It's the one-on-one fighters that have had alot stay in Japan.

DD2 was also on the NES in some locale or other - DP Guide also lists a Game Boy game released here in the U.S.

Vote for Kizuna Encounter.

Edit: And Groove on Fight. Steven also mentioned some import for the Saturn named Crows, so I'll throw that in here as well!

Kizuna Encounter is a one-on-one style fighter.

All the Double Dragon games you mention came out over here. DD2 on the GB is actually a translation of a different game with swapped sprites. It's pretty weak.

D'oh, I knew that.

Added those as examples of DD2 that weren't import only, actually. I see what you meant now - yes, the MD/TG16 versions are better (though...I wouldn't say much better).

Another entry: Toshinden S, on the Saturn in Japan.

Gurume Sentai Bara Yarou(Super Famicom) is good and weird.

Final Fight Revenge

Don't let the Final Fight name fool you. It was actually a sup-par fighting game.

Already mentioned at length; he means specific ports. Pretty big difference between the PC-Engine and Mega Drive versions of the game.

DD2 was released on the MegaDrive? I didn't know that! I knew the Genesis got DD, DD3, & DD5, but that's it. Was DD4 released on the MegaDrive too?

Nope. Stayed on the Super. Interestingly, check out Return of Double Dragon on the Super Famicom. Same basic game, but the stage structure and soundtrack is mixed around. It's better really.

I guess the Mega Drive version of DD2 is almost impossible to get. I finally just went for the ROM. It's my fave version of the game (which really wasn't hot to begin with), better than the arcade since there's little slowdown.

How about Captain Commando (SFC)?

Came out over here. The Playstation Captain Commando didn't though.

Add Nekketsu Oyako for the Saturn. It's pretty bad.

I know there was at least 3 sailor moon beat-em-ups for super famicom, and one on mega drive. There's also Battle Zeque, a super famicom beat-em-up with an all girl cast.

I think there was a mazinger beat em up for Super famicom as well.

good luck finding "Undercover Cops"
I'm searching for 3 years now and not the slightest sign of it.
IF you find it....well ,I'd pay up to 150$ for it.

Dungeons & Dragons Collection
Warriors of Fate II
Crows: The Battle Action for Segasaturn (already mentioned, but that's its full name, and Sega saturn is indeed one word on the case & manual)

All for Japanese Sega Saturn only

Cheers

There's a Warriors of Fate II???? @_@

Damn it. Now I have track it down. The first one (arcade) is one of the best.

Indeed, though its proper non-translated name is "Tenchi wo Karau II: Sekiheki no Tatakai"

Cheers

Hey what's the Japanese name for Technosoft's "Hot Blooded Family"?

The previously mentioned "Nekketsu Oyako".

I think he meant the Downtown Nekketsu series. 90% of that series is beat em ups and only one of those has made it to the US. You may know it as River City Ransom. If you find a list of the games in that series anything with a sports title in its name is not a beat em up.

Wasn't "Crash N' the Boyz" part of that series? The character design was the same as those in River City Ransom.

Nope, "Nekketsu" is "Hot Blooded" and while I've never heard of this game either, it's not a Technos Japan game. It's a Technosoft title, difference!

Also wouldn't say that 90% of the Kunio games were BEUs, i.e. the various Dodgeball games...but I'm not that familiar with the series, really.

Look 'er up on GameFAQs.

Famicom:
Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai
Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki da yo Zenin Shuugou

Super Famicom:
Shin Nekketsu Kouha - Kunio-tachi no Banka
Shodai - Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun

Gameboy:
Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Dokodemo Daiundoukai
Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki dayo Zenin Shuugou

PC-Engine:
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (one of the better versions)

Those are most of the beatemups from the Downtown Nekketsu series.
