I sure know I spend a LOT of time on these boards and the like. Discussing games. Memories of games. Ideas for sequels. Everything you could dream up of.
Is it too much? (for you, I mean) Do we spend too much time talking about games online, when we really should be doing more playing?
I mean, I bet if I took a poll of how many of us buys more than 40 games a year, but doesn't really play them all... more of a collecting frenzy... how many of us would raise their hands? Probably a majority!
Don't you recall the good ole days where there was no net and we played the games? The only times we chatted about them were when we COULDN'T access them. i.e. school playgrounds at lunch with your friends
Nowadays, we say "we don't have nearly as much free time" but what do some of us do? We're on these boards talking, when if we weren't, we could use that time to game.
I guess many of us are "addicted" to the "social aspects" of being a gamer/collector. You might not want to call it an addiction but many of us just come here day after day looking for new games to buy, or discussing old games for the 14th time, rather than sitting down and just playing our games.
Any thoughts?

As of late I have been on a major game playing kick...finished a bunch of titles in about 2 weeks time. Surprising for me because I usually spend a LOT more time out thrifting and collecting, but right now I'm just trying to kick back play through more of my games and go hunting a lot less. It's working well so far. Every once in a while though like everyone else it's nice to take a break from gaming, watch a movie, listen to music or come talk about more games on these forums.
It's kind of funny, most of time I'm on this board I'm playing games anyway. :D
I've done a lot of posting since I joineds this site and I must say that it has taken some game time away. But I think it has enhanced the way we play games. The web helps us when were stuck, or helps us pick the next game to play.
Just my 2 cents.

I feel that sometimes, the DP message board servers as a catalyst to game-playing. Someone will mention an old game or system you haven't played in a while, and you go rip it out to play some. Also, nothing beats staying up all night to finish that rare NES game you just scored.
In all, we need a place to come share about our hobby, and in this sharing/receiving, oft times one's passion for the hobby grows to a whole new level.
I probably spend more time reading people's posts on forums than play games of late, but I do not think there is anything really wrong with reading/posting on forums. The internet has been great because it permits a concentration of like minded individuals from all over the world in one place. I mean there is not very many people I know how are as interested in games as I am and if they are interested they are likely only to be casual players who only seem to appreciate the current generation and only buy domestic (Australian PAL) games. However with the 'net I can discuss the latest new game or some old classic JPN import with people who are often many times more knowledgeable than myself. So there is a social aspect together with a sharing of knowledge which I think is also good. :)

I share this opinion :)
I'm online a LOT, but it's at times when I can't be playing (at work or while on a project at my home office) so it's also"the next best thing". As tuxedojoe says, discussion here usually fuels my fire for my next gameplaying session and often decides what games I'm going to tackle next.

Do we talk too much about video games? NO. Proof? That the off-topic forum exists and is frequently used. BWA HA HA HA HA.
Now shut up and go play a game. :D

You mean there are other things to talk about besides games? :eek 2:
Seriously, I can't stop talking about games...and tuxedojoe is right damn it! I agree with his statement 155%!
I for one, get a huge surge of adrenaline when I talk about games, and I like that feeling....spazzing out over a new CastleVania is a good example, :D nothing cheers me up more then gaming news, memories of yester-year, and reading articles about anything game related after a bummed out or busy day
My game playing affects my DP time!!
My posting has dropped down big time since Christmas day at 5AM......I got up before the rest of the family and created another character on Final Fantasy 11....so I'm on playing FFXI every night.
When I log onto here I'm usually playing something like Hot Shots Golf or ESPN NHL 2K5......stuff that doesnt need uber concentration so that you can put down the controller to type.

I don't think we spend too much talking about video games, but some of us spend too much on vide games! I mean, if you sit back and think that someone spent $3,000+ on a 20+ year old video game you will realize that is pretty insane!
