I can't believe you started a thread asking if $1 was a good deal for a videogame. What, are you having buyer's remorse over ONE DOLLAR? Are you trying to brag that you bought DEADLY TOWERS? Seriously, no offense, but what was the point of this thread?

better than NES Golf for $1.00.

........... Probably.

Almost everyone hates this game....mainly because of the shitty graphics and the invisible dungeons.

But give this baby a chance!!! Use the password trick to get full armor and go to town. It's actually a very fun game once you start bringing the towers down

The music is good and the game is fairly rewarding for a ragged-on NES title. Once you beat it with the trick, check out the maps out there online for the dungeons and try to beat it legitimately. Of course, you could make the maps yourself, but screw that.

I'll give you $1 if you promise never to bring up Deadly Towers ever again. Ugh, what a piece of NES poo. I can't even get three screens into the game without dying becuase some indistinguishable piece of flying something hit me. Ick. Bland colors, bland gameplay .I'd rather play Destiniation Earthstar

I guess any video game for a dollar is ok, but whew you found a stinker.

Not a very rare game, but like others said, $1 is a good price for practically anything other than maybe SMB/Duck Hunt.

Deadly Towers is sometimes considered the worst NES game ever made, but I like it. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted. It's all about patience... Job-like patience. It has a very high starting difficulty that eases only slowly as you acquire better health and equipment. You have to spend a lot of "downtime" earning money to buy health potions and special items. Prince Meyer handles poorly until you get the Hyper Boots. Fast-moving enemies have a tendency to knock you around helplessly once they make contact, so you have to advance slowly, anticipate their positions and hit them before they have a chance to get to you. Finding the hidden areas requires trial-and-error experimentation. The graphics aren't pretty, but really, when do you play 8-bit games for graphics anyway? Music is repetitive but catchy.

So... it's very tough to love, but can be worth it, IMO. If you beat it without using the "full items" password, you'll really feel a sense of accomplishment!

Was that the point?

Agree. I've seen this a few times on the forum, that some people answer real rude if someone makes an extra post or something. Strange behavior.

I've always liked Deadly Towers. Maybe it's because as a child I only had a handful of NES games so I learned to like it, but it still seems like a good action/adventure game today. Sure the music and sound effects are painful and the graphics are crude and the controls sluggish, but if you can get past all of that the game offers a lot of variety.

Does anybody know if this game is related to Knightmare on the MSX? The graphics and characters seem too similar for it to be coinicidence. It's a vertical shooter where you play as the knight from Deadly Towers, a lot like Undeadlinev or Gain Ground. The sequel, Maze of Galious, was more like a mix of Deadly Towers and Castle Excellent.

Honestly, I really love this game, in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. It's also the 1st game I ever got for free. My cousin gave it to me because she hated it! :D

What the hell kind of coddling answer were people supposed to give?
I think it was handled rather well.

The biggest problem with Deadly Towers, is that massive dungeon you always inevitably stumble into. (Thanks to all the hidden entrances.) Getting out of that place is a real endurance test. It would've helped immensely if the programmers had given you some kind of map feature like Zelda. Though if I remember correctly it isn't necessary to complete the game going through it. If you know where the entrances are you can safely avoid it. (Though you'll miss some shops contained in it. Finding those is practically as difficult as finding the damn exit unfortunately.)

Still the game has its charms. The graphics were okay for its time period. The game gets much more enjoyable once you finally find some decent equipment. I never really thought this game was as wretched as most Nes fans claim. I've seen far worse for both the Nes and Famicom.

Nope. The Knightmare series is by Konami, while Deadly Towers was by Irem. The two games are not connected in any way.

Bah! You will pay me $10 for your ignorance and I will continue to go ON AND ON!!!! BWA HA HA!!

It is attitudes like Kim's that give this game it's bad reputation. If you stopped and read the thread (and then went and actually made an effort withthis game), you'd find that getting a ways into the game is tough, but then it's a great game.

You know, I'm actually really happy so many people stood up to defend poor Deadly Towers. It's one of my favorites. I love games where you have no clue what the hell you're doing until you've played it for a few years. Often times that's just a result of not having a manual, but it makes the game charming.

Deadly Towers actually has a pretty sharp presentation, and considering it was such an early NES game, it sure tries a hell of a lot harder than any of the black box games. The only reason people knock it, really, is because Seanbaby paraded it around as the worst NES game of all time, beating out Athena and Tag Team Wrestling. I fail to see any logic for that decision, other than the fact that he was impatient with it (much like all the people who trash-talk Shenmue.)

You ignored the "weekly finds" thread, ignored the rarity guide at this very site, and posted blindly about an incredibly random game that you paid a dollar for. I can understand being new and not knowing about these resources, which is fine, but using such language and accusing us of "fuckin' hostility" based on one post asking what the point of this thread was isn't cool. We're trying to maintain an enjoyable community here. If every new guy came posting a thread every time he bought a videogame, that would be the OPPOSITE of enjoyable. So, lesson learned. Let's talk about Deadly Towers some more.

My brother got Deadly Towers. I thought it was horrible, mainly because of how many hits it took to kill enemies, and the lack of apparent goal.
