- Star Soldier/Gunhed (Final Soldier, Super Star Soldier)

Gunhed isn't part of the Star Soldier series, although it's often mistaken to be. Gunhed's a Compile game (that just happened to be published by NEC), usually considered a spinoff of the Aleste series. It's closest relative is probably Super Aleste (aka Space Megaforce) on the SNES. NEC pretty much ripped off Gunhed when they made Super Star Soldier, but it's by a completely different developer.

Top ten list for me, in no particular order except the second group is the top five, the others are in the top ten:

System Shock
DOOM
Tie: Res Evil and Metal Slug
Phantasy Star (I really liked PSO single player, played it for over 90
hours on ONE player, OFFLINE :O, I have no life though)

Metal Slug
Contra
Castlevania
Shinobi (including Alex Kidd in Shinobi World of course!)
Half-Life :D

Also want to throw out the Makaimura games (Ghouls 'n Stuff). I've yet to get Tenchu on the XBox, so I've yet to see if that's quite good enough to call a series yet. Same with Unreal Tournament - 2K4 made a great impression, though. I'm not huge on fighters or shooters, but I'm working on those.

I find that most of the games I really like tend to come at random, stuff out of the past and in foreign arcades.

Crush Crawfish

In no particular order:

Megaman
Breath of fire
Kirby
Mario
Sonic
Suikoden

Earthbound/mother series

Man was that harder than I thought it would be.

Zelda and Suikoden would be my favorites by a wide margin. :)

After that I really like Silent Hill, Metroid, SNES Final Fantasies, Space Quest and Treasure Games (if it can be considered a franchise).

I'm guessing that Warioware and Katamari Damacy could be future favorites...

Cheers,
Ben

The big ones here are Sonic and Metroid. I've loved the Sonic games since I first played Sonic 1, and in the last week alone have played through S3K three times...once as each character. Hell, I even liked Sonic R and Sonic Adventure (though I have to say I see no value in the Sonic Advance titles...disgraceful).

And Metroid -- about two years or so ago, I picked up a copy of Super Metroid and sat down with it for a solid week. Six months later, I have every Metroid game, and now I've beaten all of them but the original game (I need to try making maps for it or something...) and MP2 -- curse you Dark Samus!

Other than that, uh, Streets of Rage were some good games, great two-player. Metal Gear, even though I've never seriously played the pre-Solid titles (really must do that sometime...). ToeJam & Earl, even though #3 blew chunks, the first two were total masterpieces...

Five...well, I guess I can claim Mario since I played them so much (and SSBM is still an absoulte blast) but past that, most of my favorite games (Socket, Granada, Crusader of Centy...) never really developed into franchises. Shame, really. :/

Megaman and all of it's iterations

Castlevania

Breath of fire

Resident Evil before RE4 because they were the last fragment of Adventure games to exist

I guess the Lucasart Adventure game could be put together to form a series so i"ll say SCUMM.

Metroid

Grandia

Zelda, of course

Adventure Island, believe it or not

And I'm REALLY starting to like the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Series
