I recently lost my old ps2, board fried. Tried to have it repaired, but it will be cheaper to replace it.

My question is: should I get one of those new PsTwo's, or are they really too junky/fragile to look into? Would I be better off with an new older model?

Thanks.

By the way, this isn't here to be a debate over which is better looking, etc. etc., It's just that I am about to run out and buy one or the other.

Well, I like my PSTwo and I have had none of the issues that some people have reported.

I prefer the big ones with progressive scan (the little '+' on the corner of the box). I think they're a bit more 'track proven'. No problems from mine, which gets heavy use as a PS2 and a primary DVD player.

Haven't heard of problems with the little PStwo outside of this forum...take that for what you will.

yeah i agree with the original ps2 models, over the slim

The redesigned one works just fine.

I assume anything bad someone has reported here either had to do with installing a mod chip, or they wanted to feel special and invented the story.

I traded my launch model for the little slim job. Hasn't given me any problems at all. I like it a lot.

Since I started using HDAdvance, the HD bay has bcome indispensible for me. I wouldn't get a PS2 that I couldn't put hard drive in.

Basically, that is a backup drive for ps2, right?

Basically, it's simple:

1. Consider your aesthetic preferences. Some people (like Joe) find the slimline too light, others don't care. Some people absolutely want a tray-loader, others prefer a top-loader.

2. Consider what you'll do with it. Will you play online? If you get an older model, make sure it has the integrated broadband adaptor (it's included in the PSTwo). If you plan on playing FFXI (or on using the HDD for anything else), get an original model (the HDD is NOT compatible with the PSTwo).

Do you have any accessories for the PS2? If you have a remote control, the slimline has an integrated infrared receptor. If you have a multitap, get a PS2 unless you want to buy another multitap (the PS2 multitap is not compatible with the PSTwo).

Do you intend on bringing it to other places (friend's house, etc.)? Get a PSTwo as it's lighter and more compact (however the power supply's pretty heavy).

Consider all that and then you'll be able to decide which you prefer.

Thanks. I think I'll go with the new model, as it just looks better, apparently runs fine, and should do the trick.

Thanks.

Well, back from the store. Errr.. back from SEVEN stores. I finally found a PSTwo at Target, after trying 2 local exchange places, Gamestop, EB Games, Best Buy, and Circuit City.

What a tiny console.

Yeah, those suckers (and XBox's) are still in VERY short supply. Good idea trying one of the 'smaller' stores that people would'nt think off for one.

If you are planning on getting a PStwo, and playing it vertically, you are most definately going to need the stand, otherwise it's a wasted effort...
