Chrono Trigger. As much as I love the humor in Earthbound, I simply hate its battle system. Plus, CT has some of the best music ever in games (IMO).

Hard choice. I voted Earthbound, but I think CT has a much better chance of winning, as it has more of a "mainstream" Final Fantasy feel.

I was absolutely obsessed with Chrono Trigger for a few years in junior high. It was my favorite game for several years (bumping off my much loved Donkey Kong Country 2), it's still in my top 10, and I basically have it to thank for turning me into a hardcore RPG nut (not that nostalgic memories of Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior didn't help, though). So there's my pick.

On one hand, Chrono Trigger lets you screw with history(planet of the reptites ending?)

On the other hand, Earthbound lets you beat hippies with a baseball bat.

If only someone combined them to form the perfect game.

Earthbound is my second-favorite RPG ever, and as much as I love Chrono Trigger, I may have to add my two cents in saying that it may just be a slight tad overrated. It's still A+ as far as RPG's go, but Earthbound's extremely unorthodox style still manages to attract me. Plus, Mr. Saturn is among the greatest characters to have EVER been invented in gamedom. BOING!

That's the hardest choice ever, but I think I'd have to go with Chrono Trigger for pure replayability. I absolutely love both games, they comprise two of the top 3 games ever for me, the #1 being Final Fantasy II for SNES.

God dammit, now I'm gonna play through this game. I'm gonna go home and get my copy of FF Chronicles this weekend and plow through both games on it.

Seriously though, I just couldn't get into Earthbound at all. I just found it to be soooo boring and plain. I mean, yes it was witty and original, but besides all that it was a fairly mediocre game. Chrono Trigger gets my vote.
