Alright, Stadium Events! but.... there seems to be a catch.

Check out that greenpanada123 feller. He seems to be bidding that SE up for no reason. Also... 2 feedback?

I dug a little deeper only to find out that greenpanada123 just won one of this guys auctions (Air Fortress for 1.50) and that's where the (recent) positive came from. Did he already get the game...hmmmm...So I looked into it more:

It seems that greenpanada123 has been bidding on NES games like crazy... but they seem to all be from this horse-packer seller (the person selling stadium events) and he never wins them.

What do you guys think? Shill bidding? Is there something we can do? This is ridiculous and its people like this that make me hate ebay all the more.

oh... here is the bidding list for greenpanada123
http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidItems&userid=greenpanda123&sort=3&page=3&rows=25&completed=1&all=1

he has bid on ALMOST all (if not all) of horse-packer's items, and not a single other persons. My advice and opinion; DON'T BID, there is something going down here that ain't cool.

Asked this guy a question several days ago about this auction:

Do you have a picture of this game? Does it have the box or manual? Does it have a white nintendo seal of quality? If not what is the number sequence in the bottom corner? Thanks, Austin

Is there something we can do?

If you aren't comfortable bidding then don't bid and just move on. But I really don't think that its anybody's business to "do" anything. After all, what if you're wrong?

"But I really don't think that its anybody's business to "do" anything. After all, what if you're wrong"

If that isn't shill bidding at its worst, then I don't know what is. The bidder has bid on over 50 items from the same seller, and won 1 of them (which he probabley won by accident).

Okay, hope this clears things up. To me, shill bidding is a crock of shit and EVERYONE should know about it. SO Griking, here is my response to you.

If you aren't comfortable bidding then don't bid and just move on.

You bet your ass im not comfortable bidding on this. wtf kinda question is that?

But I really don't think that its anybody's business to "do" anything.

I just want people to know... and I was wondering if there was something out there to stop shill bidding on ebay. Especially on such a highly sought after item.

what if i'm wrong? honestly... take a look and tell me how someone could be "wrong" on this.

AND YES! I think it is completely our business to do something when something such as this occurs. I don't like getting fucked around with on ebay... or anywhere else. That's my story, and i'm sticking to it.

Thank you for taking the time to write to eBay's Safe Harbor department.
Shill bidding is a serious offense and we will investigate your report
as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

We will investigate the accounts for possible shill bidding by looking
at the information you have provided as well as our internal records. We
will also compare this to bidding patterns and any other activity that
may have occurred involving the reported accounts.

If we are able to find evidence of shill bidding, our actions can range
from issuing an educational alert, a temporary suspension, or in some
cases an indefinite suspension. The type of action that we take depends
on the specific situation surrounding an individual account. Things such
as the existence of a previous warning, the nature of the offense and
the length of time as a community member will all be taken into
consideration. Repeated violations of policies will often result in the
suspension of a member's account.

Sometimes, what appears to be shill bidding may actually be a legitimate
bidding activity. This can occur for a number of reasons, for example, a
bidder may bid almost exclusively on one or two sellers whom they have
come to trust. If we find there is not enough evidence of shill bidding,
we may not take action against any of the reported accounts.

We assure you that we will thoroughly examine your report. Please keep
in mind that due to our privacy policy you will not receive specific
details of our actions. In certain circumstances, we may contact you by
email if we need further information. We pledge, though, that an eBay
Safe Harbor representative will quickly review your report of shill
bidding and apply our guidelines fairly.

**Please do not respond to this email as your reply will not be
received.

We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you taking a moment to
express your concern to us. Thank you for helping to keep eBay a safe
and reputable forum in which to conduct business.

Regards,

The eBay Safe Harbor Team

While I would agree that it looks like that bidder looks pretty shady, sometimes it's tough to tell. For example, one of my friends recently decided to sell his DVD collection, and started them off at a penny. Of course anything I won I wouldn't have to pay shipping for, so I went and bid a buck or two on all his movies I didn't already own. So I bid on a bunch of auctions, all from one seller, in the same town as my own, but they certainly weren't shill bids.

Again, I agree that this Stadium Events one probably was, but I'm just saying there are circumstances where things might not appear to be what they seem.

Actually I think there are in fact two shill bidding accounts. The second one is smeghead44567. Here's the link to the bidding list for that account:

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewBidItems&sort=3&userid=smeghead44567&satitle=&from=R7&nojspr=y&pfid=0&completed=1&all=1&rows=100

This auction here convinces me that in fact shill bidding is going on.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8161268313

The two shill bidding accounts are going up against one another in that auction, and I think it's highly unlikely that that cart would sell for so much without shill bidding..

VGA can you report this second account as well? At the very least he's stealing pictures from people. In some of his auctions he's even taken pictures with watermarks.

A very common example of a lack of integrity. Few men would steal to prove they hate thieves. Few would murder to explain how they feel about murder. Rarely does a man who hates gays, become gay to prove that point. Clearly, "blatnt-shill-bidding-afoot-yes-i-mean-greenpanada123 ( 0 )New eBay Member (less than 30 days)", lacks the character and moral fortitude to pursue this issue. Yes, you are now cool....yes, you are now "the man"....and yes, your "original" idea (of becoming what you oppose), outlines your personal insight. ANY shill/fake bidder should be treated with disdain and disrespect by all who peruse this venue. Lets all hope that no one turns in this new shill bidder. Things can be handled in much better ways than "my morals and techniques are as poor as yours". By the way, I hate drunk drivers....I think I'll have a few bourbons and then cruise for awhile. Ok, I know you haven't been here long; it's ok. And not to mention lately, I haven't been posting too much.

But.

It's a wellknown fact I have the integrity of a grapefruit. You're not informing anyone.

So let me take you on an educational journey, with Abraham Benrubi.

http://homepages.compuserve.de/poll0815/images/benrubi.jpg

Abe would like to point out that, while he was on ER, he is still best known for being 'The Kube'. And that if your post is sarcastic and cynical in nature, to the point where you don't mean what you say, then well.

I'm not following you.

Moving on.

http://us.ent4.yimg.com/tv.yahoo.com/tv/photos/45/4b/534969.jpg

Kubiac, while being large, and overly friendly at times, knows that the relationships you pointed out (Murder, butt piracy) are great and all except there is one difference. This new shill bidder is designed to prevent further bids, as opposed to what you said, which stops nothing. Even if the bid is canceled, the account killed, or I'm outbid, I'll come back with a new account, with preferably, a funnier user ID. No inadvertent overpaying here.

http://images.wwyk.com/wwyk/shows/parkerlewiscantlose/kube.jpg

Even from a smaller pic, The Kube knows it's not about being cool, or being the man, it's about being a cynical asshole. Hell, being the hero doesn't even matter. Being a total dick is the power of the internet. Getting some cheap (let me stress that cheap) laughs, and stopping an idiot are bonuses.

http://dnevkino.ru/img/names_abenrubi.jpg

And finally, burly Abe would like to point out, that proof supporting my claim of myself being a)sarcastic, b)cynical, c)an asshole, and d)in search of a new gag are available by doing the following searches on the fine DP forum search engine:

'portnoyd asshole'
'portnoyd douchebag'
'portnoyd shithead'

Hey, portnoyd isn't shill bidding, if he wins he'll totally pay for that Stadium Events and sell it to someone here on DP or something if he doesn't decide to keep it. That's what's so cool about him, he can actually afford to bid on stuff like this just to make a point. I think he's awesome. Porty is my hero!

On a side note, the seller must be shitting his pants right now, wondering what the hell to do next. If he cancels port's bid, and his other accounts are shill bidding, he'll still get busted. If he doesn't cancel port's bid, and his other accounts are shill bidding, he'll still get busted. His ass is in hot water now, and he knows it. If he's smart, he's already packing up to move again.

Do you think eBay will suspend this seller? It's been 24 hours and they haven't suspended his acount, but of course they could have given him a warning of some kind and there's no way to know. I'm not sure eBay is good about policing their auctions after a story broke last week about steroids being sold on eBay disguised as informational books and eBay had let this go on for a while. A senator had even warned eBay about the problem a year prior and eBay didn't take action. Here's a link to the story on MSNBC:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6809149/

I'm suprised the seller hasn't cancelled Portnoyd's bid--it makes me suspect him even more. If he wasn't shilling, I would think he'd quickly cancel it and just move on.

Holy crap. That auction reached quite a high price, and greenpanda didn't even have to shill bid anymore. I really don't think that cart is worth $425....

Get over it guys! I said what Port did was wrong. Flack said that " there are circumstances where things might not appear to be what they seem. "....even though he also stated he feels that this is "probably" a shill. Port did not say what he did was right....quite the contrary....he said " It's a wellknown fact I have the integrity of a grapefruit. You're not informing anyone. ". We all know that Port, in general, is one of the most respected collectors and gamers on this site. What he chose to do, in this instance, was wrong....and I don't believe anyone can make an intelligent argument to the contrary. One may argue that it was fun, well-deserved, or a harmless reaction.....but it was not right.
And as for the GBA flashcard (why would anyone care), I needed to find out about it to inform (and then hopefully send one to) a gentleman in Brazil. He speaks Portuguese. I trade with him often, because Nintendo pulled out of that country (copyright laws are virtually absent and copy devices are legal there.....there are seven 72-pin NES clones available there because of the absense of these laws). He cannot acquire Gameboy anything. I recently sent him a NES version of the GBA. I found out which country he could order a GBA flaschcard from (thanks to the info from this site....especially from the assistance of Flack)...forwarded it to him....and he bought it. I don't play gameboy anything. Does anyone really care?
I trust we can end this nonsense. Why anyone was offended surprises me....especially since Port was not. I am including a grain of salt with this post. Please take it with anything else you may read from me.

Wow, you were serious. No shit. Color me dense as a watermelon.

I guess that guy played it well. Just cancel like the user name was meaningless. If I wasn't away this past weekend, a bid from look-at-his-past-auctions-shill-bidding-like-crazy, and then a rebid from greenpanda123-is-his-shill-account were called for.

But his seller page is bookmarked, mwhaha.

And for the record, I would expect neswomen to be smarter than that. $425... yizouch.

I appreciate it when someone like portnoyd does this. As I am sure that quite a lot more do. Keep up the good(and sometimes funny work),

I really don't think that it was anyone here's business to play the eBay sheriff but I doubt that surprises anyone here.

Admittedly I probably read too many Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid, but still it's an odd coincidence.

Maybe Neswoman paid, and now Greedpanda needs to buy one to ship to her. LOL

I personally wouldn't wreck another users auction by using a fake account. But I don't think there's any wrong in reporting an auction that could be in the wrong. It's ebay's discretion as to whether an auction gets shut down or users get NARUed. & I've had mine shut down in the past over stupid stuff that wasn't my fault. But every shill bidder or fee avoider hurts us all in the long run as ebay fees go up & extra charges are added. They have to cover for everyone who's abusing the system. Maybe the .05 cents reduction is partly my doing. ;)

I bid on that auction while it was running and just got this email:

Dear obscurecollector,

Hi you recently were outbid on the fantastically rare Stadium Events. The buyer who received it was unhappy because of a gross oversight on my part, the game was PAL, the European format, and he could not play it on a regular nintendo, only on a top loader. He has agreed to pay a much lower price for it or simply refund me the game if I have a better offer. I decided to give you the chance to make an offer if you were so interested. I was thinking 300 dollars or thereabout. If you are interested let me know because I will be sending this to all the high bidders on my auction so get back to me promptly if you are interested. Remeber it is a PAL game. Thanks Peter

Thank you,
horse-packer

Maybe I should tell him to sell to his greenpanda buddy.

So let me get this straight, horse-packer puts Stadium Events up for auction, shill bids with the greenpanda123 account and neswomen is the high bidder, but he doesn't actually have the cart. Then he sees the PAL cart and decides to bid on it with his shill account (actually he bid on it with both of his shill bidding accounts for some reason), then he offers it to neswomen but she doesn't want it, so he sends out second chance offers? Or maybe he had the cart, sells it to neswomen, then he finds the PAL cart and decided he can make a few bucks on that one too by selling it on second chance offers. Anyone still think this guy is innocent?
