View Full Version : Your Personal Videogaming Holy Grail

What is your unattained Holy Grail?

It doesn't have to be a game. For me, it used to be getting an arcade cabinet in my basement, but now I have one, so now it is going to be the Nintendo World Championship Cart. Gold.

Most of you will laugh since there are plenty of these to be had (if you're willing to shell out some cash). But I am still waiting for the day I see a Turbo Duo in the hands of an unsuspecting thrift shop.

Right now, it's Blue Chicago Blues Complete for Laseractive US.

It's the last $@%$#@! piece I need for a complete set.

Yeah. Finding stuff in the wind is so much more satisfying than Evil-Bay.
Cheaper too!

I actually acquired one of my holy grails recently: EVO for SNES. Other things I consider personal holy grails are a Turbo Duo, Snow Bros. for NES, the Japanese versions of Smart Ball and Spanky's Quest for Super Famicom, Megaman Battle & Chase for PS1 (euro version), and Rockman X3 for Sega Saturn.

Right smack in the middle -- east bay area, Livermore in particular. I just so happen to live about as far away from any good game stores as possible, guess I'm repenting for having a freaking awesome one about a block from my house for several years (before I started collecting, though). :frustrated:

Well, there's alot of things that would qualify, but the most expensive is a Roller Coaster Tycoon pinball table. I wish there was a way that I could own one.

My holy grails would be:

Stadium Events (only rare licensed games I need for the NES)
All 3 Panesians

Also, any NES era sign that I don't already have would be really nice.

I"ll also vote for the Elemental Gearbolt Assasin's Case.

But I'd also go for an English Poliicenauts Beta for the Saturn or an English proto or review copy of Star Odyssey for the Genesis. Both exist....

It's really not that rare, only and R4 or 5 I beleive. But I had been looking for it in the wild for ten years, and I just broke down and bought it on ebay. Truly brilliant and worth every penny. :D

Magical Chase is the rarest U.S. released TurboGrafx-16 game, as far as I can tell. It's a goofy shooter, not bad, not great. (You play a witch on a broom.) Very Japanese. Sort of like Parodius, in style, but not quite as good.

For me it has been Spiker Volleyball for the Intellivision. It is the last game that I need to complete my Intellivision collection (original releases). I have been looking for it for the last 2 plus years. I have owned at least 7 Congo Bongo's and Stadium Mud Buggies. The rarity guides are wrong. Spiker is without a doubt the toughest Intellivision game to find. It should be a rarity 10 but don't change it until I can find one (so that I can afford to buy it).

Right now my grail is a wideboy. Preferably one older than the N64, if they exist, but a WideBoy64 would do.

Also up there are Game Boy store displays, devs, protos, promos...
You get the idea.

Heh. My "Holy Grail" wasn't a videogame at all. There's really no specific system or game I feel *that* attached to or obsessed by. But the one item my game room had to have - that *I* had to have - was an original poster from the movie "Tron." Spent many years before I finally found just the one I was looking for.

Oooo...

Unfortunately, before I can pursue most of these I need a house first, so that's probably my first grail ;)

First and foremost, a Space Shuttle Pinball machine. I adore this pin, and I need it.

Secondly, a Jurassic Park pinball machine. This is my favorite modern era pin, and I love the movie and book too.

JAMMA arcade cabinet. I need to put Battle Balls (which I have the board for) into it :)

Crystal Castles arcade cab. I keep returning to this game and it is easily one of my favorite old-school games. It would be great to have that with my Kangaroo and Ms. Pac-Man.

While I'm at it, cabs for Rush 2049, OutRun, Sega Super GT, HydroThunder and lots and lots of different pinball machines.

FooFighter

A Sinistar arcade cab to sit next to my Robotron 2084.

Sinistar was always my favorite arcade machine.

A Fun House pinball cab. And Tim Arnold, to keep it running. I swear I'd never stop playing.

This has been my personal grail for a while, and I finally got it. First a little backstory, I used to have this. I bought in Japan when I was a kid. But.. it got lost. Long story. I don't throw away ANYTHING.. so missing this was a big hole for a while.. unfortunately, they're hard to replenish as you can imagine.. especially in the 80's a year or two after originally buying it.

Anyway, now I have it again.. my personal Holy Grail. :) It's minty fresh, complete and unused in box w/ instructions, warranty card, styrofoam, the works. Works great too. And plays just like I remember it. In a way it's a little better I bought it now because if I still had my original it'd be boxless and instructionless (I'd thrown them away.. right away LOL).

I think that my new holy grail is a complete Virtual Boy collection. I see a few people have noted this as the centerpiece of their collection, and I really dig the idea, considering there is no very good way to emulate.

Same reason I am seriously collecting for the DS.

Right now, my holy grails are prototypes. Either the SMW build with SMB3-style graphics, or the Sonic 1 proto with a standing pose that looks an awful lot like the way Mario stands in SMB1 (this is also the build with the 'Welcome' sign in Green Hill).

I see several people want Turbo Duos here. www.japangamestock.com got 2 in a few months ago. I bought one of them, so there's one left. It comes to about $170 with the connections (sold seperately) and shipping (Shipping is like $60 to the US.) But it's still cheaper than the $300+ they go for on EBay.

If you get one, though, you're going to want a controller extension cable. That controller cord is SHORT, like the original TG16 or a Japanese PS1.

As for my grails, probably a compleyte Sega CD US set. Sega CD was one of those systems I always wanted as a child (That and a duo) but never got, so I bought recently.
