Alright so I got an N-Gage QD today, and all this Bluetooth transfering crap is really confusing. To be blunt I just want a Game Boy Color emulator on my N-Gage (probably buy one at Vampent.com) and at best maybe even some PC Suite software for my PC to trasfer things through my comp to the N-Gage (so I can get the new Snakes game). But nothing seems to work properly and I'm not even sure if I have everything needed.

I feel so stupid, but everywhere I go everything is so complicated and hard to understand. I don't have a problem using the Bluetooth technology to transfer files from my phone to the PC and vice versa but do I need to purchase the software or is this all free downloads? I'd like to do all this on the cheapest route possible, but I just don't understand a lot of it.

Please help. x_x

Hey Dan! Get that RE4 yet?

Glad to hear you got a QD... mine is currently my most played system. You have GOT to get Snakes... I took my car into the shop today and played it for hours, its simply fantastic!
Not much time to type now but I will gladly post some tips for you tomorrow morning. 8-)

Thanks man, yeah I got RE4, AKA my new all time favorite game. LOL

I'm loving the QD too, just not good with all these technical terms... can you tell I'm a console gamer? :P

yea bluetooth is a bitch to setup, youre better off buying a mmc card reader off ebay for a couple bux like i did, unless you wanna go through the work of setting it up.

I don't have any problem with the Bluetooth setup. Well I did at first, but I tried using Nokia's software and that just seemed to conflct with the Bluetooth software. So I just ditched Nokia's software.

There's always a way to get "free" software. You just have to look around. But honestly I think alot of the programs like vNES & Netfront are well worth paying the authors for. It's amazing what they can make your little phone do.

I downloaded Snakes 3D earlier and almost forgot about it til this thread. I need to remember to check it out. Thanks for the free software Nokia.

But will I have to purchase any sort of hardware in order to be doing that? O_O

If you own a bluetooth adapter, just download the Nokia Suite (it should be on the CD you got with your phone and you can download it for free from nokia.com ).
If you got problems with the software, buy a cardreader. They are very cheap and useful.

Calling an N-Gage specialist

Who called for me? im here! :P

Yeah as a few people have mentioned you wanna get a mmc reader... bluetooth you should only really use for small files such as pictures...
I dont have this problem myself as the old Ngage has a direct usb port to the mmc. Nokia removed this due to piracy issues im guessing... as the games are that easy to crack

The Vampent Game Boy Colour Emulator is probably your best bet (i havent tried it myself, although their NES one is great! (VNes))

Other possiblities are
Goboy - http://www.wildpalm.co.uk/GoBoy7650.html
Gamephone Advance - http://www.infinitouch.com/GamePhone/GamePhone.html
(Before anyone asks, no it doesnt emulate Gameboy Advance, jsut GBC & GB, its the stupiest name to give it IMO!)

Other emulators you may wanna try:

MSX - http://personal.inet.fi/private/riihimaki/s60/
(this one is free, and also on the page is a remake of Xevious which i highly recommend!!!!)

ZXboy - http://www.wildpalm.co.uk/zxboy.html
(another good one if your a speccy fan like myself!)

eeMame - http://www.harmonicode.com/EEMame/
(yup! an arcade emulator, limited games it runs but it runs pac man and a few others smoothly and very nice!)

Also i highly recommend you get FExplorer, its a file explorer for Ngage/Series 60 phones, it can come in very handy! Trust me!
Here is the link: http://users.skynet.be/domi/fexplorer.htm

Any other questions ill be happy to answer!

Ok. The guys above covered most of it, but I'll try to break it down for you.

Unless you have a MMC reader/writer, you need bluetooth to transfer files to the memory card (you have one of those, right?). I had fits installing bluetooth on my PC - avoid the D-Link model. I bought a little Kensington USB bluetooth adapter and it works great.

You mentioned needing N-Gage PC Suite - your QD should have come with a software CD with PC suite on it. Once you get your bluetooth running, you need to go into "My bluetooth places," have it search out and detect your N-Gage, then right click on the NGage and establish a serial link between your PC and the N-Gage to transfer files. THEN load PC Suite, and file transfering is simple.

Once you transfer things like emulators or Snakes, the easiest way to install them is to go to Tools --> Manager from the N-gage menu, then highlight the .SIS file and go to Options --> Install.

Hope all this helps -- my favorite emulators on the NGage are EEMame and Picodrive. Can't recommend 'em enough!

You guys are confusing me. Is the QD different from the original N-Gage ?

Why wouldn't you just plug in the USB cable and transfer files to the MMC card that way ?

That's what I did on my N-gage for a year. Just plug in the USB cable and it shows up as drive:G and then put the files in the right folder.

I don't think the QD comes with a USB cable, maybe mine didn't, and they actually do, who knows?

Either way, no I don't have any Bluetooth hardware on my PC, so I guess that rules that one out. When using the MMC reader though, how does it work? Is it just a cord that plugs directly from your tower to your phone or what?

No the card reader just plugs into your USB port on the computer. Then you put the MMC card in it and your computer sees it as a new drive. And then you can transfer files to it.

You should be able to find one for around $19.99

The USB port was taken out of the QD.
It's strictly bluetooth only, for better or worse... :-/

You don't need a USB port on your QD. You put the MMC into the card reader and plug it into the USB port on your computer. Transfer the file from your computer, take the MMC card out of the reader, put it in your QD. Blammo! You're off and playin'.
