It is very difficult to choose just one so what are your two fav DC games? and why?
#1 for me has to be Streetfighter3:third strike. I waited for this game for close to 10 years before Capcom decided to FINALLY give SF2 a true sequal and the wait was well worth it. Even though all but the very hardcore had forgotten about 2-D fighters all together those who were in the know were treated to one of 2-Ds finest moments when this game was released oh so quitely on the DC.
Streetfighter3:third strike embodies everything that I had ever hoped for in a Streetfighter game. beautifully detailed incredibly smooth fluid graphics with near perfect combos and hit detection. a traditional 2-D fighters dream come true IMOA.
#2 has to be Resident Evil 3: Nemesis  I know I know its just a PC port of an old PSone game but I still play this game on a constant basis for some strange reason it just feels right on the DC with the VMU unit and all. hey ITS A MYSTERY TO EVERYONE LOL

LOL That's an easy one! Jet Coaster Dream & Jet Coaster Dream 2! Because I'm the world's biggest roller coaster & coaster simulation nut! See my new avatar over there? Nothing else even comes close to my passion for all things coaster related, except for pinball. I'm the world's biggest pinball nut too, especially video pinball! But they never made any pinball games for the DC. :(

Shenmue - I dont really need to say why great story graphics and concept for time and a work of art.
resident evil code veronica - great graphics and setting.

Gundam Side Stories 0079 and Jet Set Radio.

I love the story, mechanics, graphics and gameplay in Gundam, plus I'ma pretty big Gundam nut, so I'm sure that sways my opinion a bit.

I love Jet Set Radio due to its unique approach, innovative game play, killer music, and again, great graphics.

Both games have it all!

shenmue - amazing
shenmue 2 - phenomenal

what more is there to say about the shenmue? the games were a masterpiece.

1: Soul Calibur
2: MvC2

After looking through all of the games on Dreamcast, I have only played a short few of them. I only owned the system for a very short period of time and was actually the last system I sold off (obviously that'll never happen again).

But looking at the titles, there weren't really... ANY that jumped out at me. SC was the obvious choice for #1, but past that I really couldn't think of much. Granted, I've never played Shenmue or 99% of the systems library but I've never had much a desire to. There's a few games in there that I still intend to play through (Shenmue, Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia instantly come to mind), but other than that I don't think i really missed out on much :/

"Power Stone 2" - I could waste days beating the crap out of other characters with fish, motorscooters, and tennis rackets.

"Beats of Rage" - it might be a homebrew, but its an SOR type game and i likes that :-P

Shenmue....it's not a difficult game. There's no hardcore action. The draw for me is that it was a very calming game to play, with a great sense of adventure and a story that pulled you through to the very last second.....and straight onto the sequel.

Phantasy Star Online....there hasn't been a game on any system that has come even remotely close to getting the sheer amount of playtime that I've spent with this game. I still play it offline to this day, both on the DC and the Cube. I was among the first North American gamers to ever log online. I had so many VMUs with a character on each one. LOL

Rez - artisically beautiful, entrancing and sublime.

Ikaruga - Treasure's gift to the Dreamcast. A beautiful game that is simple yet impossibly hard to master

Crazy Taxi - I know it eventually came out for most of the other consoles, but it was here first. And I played the crap out of that game. I own it for the PS2 as well, but it feels a little better, a little more polished on the Dreamcast. It's great to play for hours or just pop it in for a few minutes.

Jet Grind Radio - Awesome stylistically, fun gameplay - something that I keep going back to.

Sega Marine Fishing- lots of unlockables, it's "bigger" than Bass Fishing w/ more species of fish to catch, & just looks great.

House of the Dead 2- arcade-perfect, very well done shooter, w/ the worst voice talent aound.

Soul Calibur - how can anyone not appreciate the exquisite detail that was put into this game? SC2 is only barely able to top it. quite a feat for a leaunch title back in 99....

Virtua Tennis - come on.... greatest tennis game ever made, easily. maybe best sports game :) i've logged many an hour into this one, both in the single player, and in 2 player... which is quite a blast. \m/

#2 Sonic Adventures just because it was so different from all of the other sonics.

Man, that's a hard one. Only two... well, one is definitely Shenmue. The other one....hmmm.... Power Stone?.... Project Justice?.... Crazy Taxi?... Timestalkers?... Evolution?... I guess I'll go with Power Stone.

This question is especially hard for me since it's really the only current genreration system I play with any consistancy.

1. Skies of Arcadia - simply the best rpg I've played since the days of the SNES

2. If I could combine all the awesome fighters for this system (street fighter, marvel v capcom, soul calibur, virtua fighter, etc..) They would be number 2, but if I have to choose a single game it would have to be Bangai-O

Nez
01-27-2005, 09:34 AM
Damn soo many choices.

Ill go with the excellent port of KOF 2000 becouse I play it all the time, and I just love it.

Next Mars Matrix, my favorite shooter of all time,I unlocked almost every thing in the game, its just a blast to play.

Virtua Tennis - I used to play a lot of Super Tennis on the SNES, and on a whim grabbed this one. Played the tar out of it, it was just so much fun, and the controls were so responsive. Still have just that one last match to win, too. :/

Speed Devils - As far as racing games go, it's definitely not without its share of flaws, but d@mn if it isn't fun! The environments have a lot of character, adding subtle changes on subsequent laps, and who doesn't love a racing game with gambling!

dreamcaster
01-27-2005, 10:27 AM
1. Soul Calibur - because it's still the best 3-D fighter ever made.

2. Sega Rally 2 - The first Dreamcast game I played, which made me fall in love with the system and which still entertains me to this day.

Xexyz
01-27-2005, 11:45 AM
The King of Fighters: Evolution- Awesome fighter. I play this fighter the most out of all the ones I own (which is a pitifully small amount)

Gunbird 2- Sadly, the only shooter I own on the DC at the moment. I am a HUGE shooter nut and even so, this game easily gets the most play out of my entire DC collection, more so than even Jet Grind Radio!

01-27-2005, 11:51 AM
this is tough but I must...

jet set radio - great character designs, great gameplay, and lots of challenges

crazy taxi 2 - the big apple is where's it's at. the adding of the car jump kinda made the game a bit easier but it definitely at my time up (when I was decent an average session would last two hours...and now I suck). so yeah this helped when I was defragging a computer or killing time before an auction (although the game did make me lose a couple)

Crazy Taxi is my #1
#2 is a tie between about a dozen other games.

Shenmue - always fascinated by this. Makes me want to make my own "wander-around-simulated-town-and-collect-video-games-in-compressed-real-time-starting-in-1972-to-the-present" game. For me, it isn't the graphics, it's the whole "YOU ARE LIVING BACK IN 1986-JAPAN!" thing going on.

There are so many others that I still need to play that I'll leave my second choice blank for now.

Actually there's Neo Golden Logress (Import) that is a pinball game for the Dreamcast. Unfortunately it is awful. :( As for my two favorite games:

1) Grandia II - The only RPG I have ever liked.

2) Virtua Tennis - The best game for a group of people. Also tied with many others.

Resident Evil Code Veronica
Soul Calibur
Marvel Vs Capcom
Power Stone

I cant decide on my second

TurboGenesis
01-27-2005, 04:01 PM
I really don't know which ones are my favorite but it seems that I play Mars Matrix and Border Down the most. Rez is really cool too.

What is the difference between Virtua Tennis and Tennis 2K2? I have 2K2 but never played virtua...

rayearthknight
01-27-2005, 04:11 PM
Only two?
Hmmm....
well, okay, I would have to say Soul Calibur--due to the beautiful graphics and the wide array of moves you could perform.

Phantasy Star Online-for the ability to go on-line and actually play in a co-op way with other players...unlike the player killers on EQ.

One of mine is easily...

Sonic Adventure - Classic

I want to say Sonic Adventure 2 then, but then I remember games like Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue, Gundam Rise from Ashes, Virtua Tennis, RE:CV, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike or Double Impact...

Goods times were had back then.

I agree somewhat with the gamer who put himself in a feeble position, heh.

I look at the Dreamcast and aside from a few games, none really jump out at me and grab me by the cajones asking to be played. But I know, tastes will vary from person to person. Don't get me wrong, DC has many good games and whatnot, it's a good system, but I never got into it like you diehards have.

I own over 25 games but haven't invested a lot of time in each game yet. But so far I'd say SONIC ADVENTURE and SOUL CALIBER.

Ask me about Saturn though, and I'd have a hard time picking two. :D

I actually enjoy Neo Golden Logress, although most people don't. Its a port of a Littlewing PC/Mac game. Here is a link if you want to check it out further: http://www.littlewingpinball.com/html/eng/products/gl/index.html

In Europe the Dreamcast also has Pro Pinball Collection which includes Timeshock, Fantastic Journey and Big Race USA. These were also originally released for the PC.

Back to the topic at hand :)
My two favorite Dreamcast games would have to be Record of Lodoss War and Sega Rally 2.

Really painful to name just two, since I could easily list 10 - 15 right now, but if I must, then:

-Skies of Arcadia: I'm retarded for RPGs, but this one really overwhelmed me. One of the most unique worlds I've ever explored.

-Ikaruga: Graphically lush & hyper difficult. A real testament to how shooters have progressed.

Shenmue: MY favorite game ever. I have a weird feeling about it though. Its a masterpiece, yet I wouldnt play it all over again.

Sega Marine fishing: I´d never been a fishing fan, but this game is so fun, and so cool. I love it! :)

It's funny because I don't think of fighting games as my favorite genre but my 2 favorite DC games are probably just that...

Soul Calibur
Dead or Alive 2

NFL 2K is right up there, too. It's probably my favorite football video game, just very fun to play.

rayearthknight
04-17-2005, 11:53 AM
Jet Set Radio--the "cell-shaded" graphics and its music.

Phantasy Star Online--So far, the only MMORPG that I have enjoyed playing--simple, yet fun to play with a group of others. It also became somewhat of a community off-line too.

#1 - Skies of Arcadia

Sorry everyone, but I was very disappointed in Grandia 2 and just about lost all hope for a good Dreamcast RPG ever coming out. Luckly, SOA turned out to be incredible and possibly my favorite RPG of this current generation.

#2 - Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage

Maybe not the best secord choice gameplay wise, but in terms of graphics, sound, and especially story this game gets my vote for second choice.

The Great Dane

Well, I can only pick my #1 favorite one because I only own 1 Dreamcast game (and it is the only one that I have ever played on it as well).

Fire Prowrestling D - Man, what a game. I bought a Dreamcast this past summer only because of this game. Then, I didn't have the money to buy the game until my birthday this past october. Once I popped it in I was instantly hooked. But, for about 4 or 5 months I didn't own a VMU card so I never was able to do any of the fun stuff on the game like make characters, make my own federation, make my own title, change everyone of the wrestlers names from Japanese to English. I finally bought a VMU card about 2 weeks ago and I am even more hooked.

My friend and I are making our own federation on the game, called the AAW, or All American Wrestling, and so we are making our own wrestlers for it and everything. Once ever wrestler is all done then we are going to be simming our own weekly shows and monthly ppvs. Also we are going to, every now and then, hold a big tournament (similar to the Super J Cup shows in Japan) where we will have wrestlers from all of the big feds in the game (including the AAW) compete in a big tournament to see who is the real world champ.

I seriously have pretty much only played this game for the past 2 and a half months. I think I'm addicted :eek 2:

Street Fighter: 3rd Strike & Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves

Of my current DC collection: Soul Caliber and Virtua tennis.

Soul Caliber is one the games I wanted the most for DC when I got it, and managed to get it through a trade. Loved it since getting it and still do now with the graphics, excellent music (dled the ost also!), as well as the different characters and gameplay options.

Virtua Tennis is about the first tennis game I've played and liked. The other I think Activision's Tennis which is hard! Virtua Tennis makes it easy to pick up and the gameplay mechanics make sit hard to put down!

SuperNES
04-17-2005, 04:54 PM
#1 would have to be Quake 3 arena. i started playing on the PC and now i wreak havoc online with my DC.

#2.. probably sonic adventure. i would have voted JGR or PSO but jet set radio future was a hundred times better than JGR and JGR's controls felt really unresponsive. i quickly grew bored of shooting the same damn boomas in PSO over and over and over. sonic adventure has great gameplay, and i'm also a chao fanatic.

tough choice. but the 1st one would have to be Soul Calibur, this was the first game i got with my dreamcast and played the for months and months. i still go back and play it every now and then with my son.

the 2nd choice is a little tougher but i will say Resident Evil code Veronica. this was the 1st RE title that was not on PS1 and i could not get over the graphics and the story was cool as hell.

by the way this is my 100th post i am so happy :D

I'd forgotten about Virtua Tennis, actually. I do prefer Tennis 2K2, though, probably because it's got some female players in it...and I recognize many of the names. I don't know a lot of the guys in that game. I'd probably be all set if this thread were asking for each other's FIVE favorite DC games...

I hate to say it, but my favorite 2 games would be.....

MSR(metropolis street racer)
while the later X-box releases had better graphics and control, I always find myself going back to this game. Even though there isnt any big named music on it, for some reason everytime I hear it, I just enjoy racing it that much more. Besides, I still have yet to beat it. Each time I start a new game, or continue an old one, I always find ways to improve on my previous. Be it new levels or new high scores.

Samba De Amigo
I dont know why, but I want the soundtrack for this game. Its crazy, but for some reason I just do.

There are more that I like. Games like Rez, Mars Matrix, and so many others. But those are the top two I always go back to every time I play my DC.

Someone asked earlier what the differences between VIrtua Tennis and Tennis 2K2 were. Tennis 2K2 is basically the sequel to Virtua Tennis. Beyond possible tweaks in the graphics and perhaps some different mini-games, Tennis 2K2 added female players...I think Virtua Tennis only has male players.

#1. Daytona USA (Daytona USA 2001). This was a loving tribute to one of the greatest games to ever come out of AM2 and actually surpassed the arcade original and any subsequent ports. You got all three arcade tracks, both circuit edition tracks, and three new tracks - unlockable cars and play modes, not to mention tons of fun racing on the SegaNet years ago and remixes of all the music. This was the reason I purchased a Dreamcast, the day after this game was announced.

#2. Shenmue. Just so over the top and a game where anything went and a refreshing change in how games are designed and played.

Of course there's also Outtrigger close behind. Terribly underrated 1st / 3rd person shooter. Basically it's Unreal Touranament shoved into super tightly confined arenas. What makes this game a little different is that it's simply a blast to play and is one of those games that simply fell apart without the SegaNet. :(

it's a shame but my Dreamcast is stored away for 2 years now.
i also bought "Millennium Soldier Expendable" when acquiring the system on launch day here in Europe and got "House of the Dead" packaged with the lightgun a few weeks later. Probably my top 2 games for the system - maybe i'm too sentimental about them ;)

Shenmue, as many have already said. That's probably the number one "if only one game from this machine could live on" title.

After that, it's a tossup between things like sonic adventure 2 (yeah , i liked 2), PSO, or Rez.

But for second I'll say Elemential Gimmick Gear.

Only 2? You are sadistic.

1: Mars Matrix -- I've already explained a million times why I love this game. Explaining it one more time would just make me seem obnoxious. IMO, it belongs in at least the top 5 of any top 10 shmup list.

2: Rush 20...errr...Phanta....well...Shenm....enh...Jet Se... uhm Vanish...no...Space Chann...hrmmm...Marve...err Dayto...uh...oh...gawsh. Please. Don't make me choose. I love them all so. :(
