Game Informer's list is floating around on this forum somewhere, and I don't expect that we'll come anywhere NEAR agreeing on this, but let's at least make an intelligent list of 2002's highs and lows. REMEMBER: this relates to games released in 2002 ONLY!

What games should be in the TOP 10?

Best System?
Best Sleeper?
Best Graphics?
Best Soundtrack?
Best New Character?
Best Developer?
Best Peripheral?

Worst Game of the Year?
Worst New Character?
Most Disappointing?

Try your hand at it! You can nominate in as many categories as you'd like.

MechAssault
Unreal Championship
TimeSplitters 2

Best System?
For # of quality games PS2 still wins.

Most Improved System? (yes I made this one up):
XBox (with a slew of quality titles and XBox Live released in the last few months) GC has some great stuff coming out but I think it's still a little behind. that may change in the next few months.

Best Sleeper?
Animal Crossing (definitely a "sleeper")

Best Graphics?
Splinter Cell

Best Soundtrack?
My XBox soundtrack. Runner-up: there's something I really like about that steel drum music in Mario Sunshine

Best New Character?
Hmmm. Haven't played it but Sly Cooper seems like it may take the popular vote.

Best Developer?
Hmm. need more time on this one.

Best Peripheral?
XBox communicator/Live Runner-up: Steel Battalion controller

Worst Game of the Year?
Sneakers? Universal Studios Theme Park Adventure? I try not to play really bad games so it's hard to say.

Blinx (no style, dry)

Best System?

Of the year? For me the System of my year was the SMS.

Best Sleeper?

Hard to say sense all the games I finished in 2002 were mainstream
I'll say Ico

Best Graphics?

Metroid Prime hands down

Best Soundtrack?

FF-X has a great soudtrack

Best New Character?

Sly

Best Developer?

Rockstar had the balls to release an expantion pack as a new game and pulled it off. Kudos fellas.

Best Peripheral?

The Wavebird

Worst Game of the Year?

Neverwinter Nights - all hype

Worst New Character?

pass - no new characters pissed me off this year.. So I'll just put down the worst character of all time in any media.. Jar Jar

Most Disappointing?

The most dissapointing thing I did this year was put down $56.00 for Neverwinter Nights. and PSO-GC without a keyboard to play with.

Now, I'm doing this by all the PAL games released this year, and bearing in mind that Metroid Prime will be released in Feb, the Xbox was launched in March and the GC was launched in May, I'm gonna be a bit behind.

Best System - Gamecube
Best Sleeper - Doshin the Giant
Best Graphics - Eternal Darkness
Best Soundtrack - GTA: Vice City
Best New Character - Jashin
Best Developer - Take 2 or Nintendo
Best Peripheral - Wavebird

Worst game of the year - Terminator: Dawn of Fate
Worst New Character - Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
Most Disappointing - Tony Hawks 4

The worst character has got to be that Dr. Muto guy. He looks freaky enough as the apparent lovechild of Albert Einstein and "Weird" Al Yankovich, but he has to take things one step further and transform into a bunch of hideous creatures. I look at him, I look at all his alternate forms, and I just can't help but shudder.

Best System?
PS2

Best Sleeper?
Animal Crossing (How much has this sold? IS IT a sleeper?)

Best Graphics?
Final Fantasy X (Without a doubt, wether the game is good or not....)

Best Soundtrack?
Kingdom Hearts

Best Peripheral?
Steel Battalion controller

Worst Game of the Year?
Sunshine (Biggest letdown of the year for me, you don't have to argue it, I won't change my mind)
Edit - I don't play bad games, so I'm not sure, heh Out of all the games I bought this year, either Devil may cry, or Mario sunshine.

Most Disappointing?
Oh, OK, Mario Sunshine goes here.

Kingdom hearts
FFX
Madden 2003

What games should be in the TOP 10?

My personal favorites:

1. Metroid Fusion (GBA)
2. Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (GBA)
3. Rez (PS2)
4. Ikaruga (DC) (If we're including imports)
5. Gunvalkyrie (Xbox)
6. Metroid Prime (GC)
7. Rygar: The Legendary Adventure (PS2)
8. Splinter Cell (Xbox)
9. GTA: Vice City (PS2)
10. Arc the Lad Collection (PSX)

(Note: I didn't count Final Fantasy X.)

Best System?
Though the 'Cube, the Advance, and the Box impressed with individual titles, the PS2 had the best overall library.

Best Sleeper?
GunValkyrie (Xbox). It'll be a classic someday, mark my words. (Runner-Up: Shantae)

Best Graphics?
Metroid Prime. (Runner-Up: Splinter Cell)

Best Soundtrack?
Rygar: The Legendary Adventure (Runner-Up: GTA: Vice City)

Best New Character?
Adam Malkovich from Metroid Fusion. Seriously, I'd pick Grave from Gungrave (PS2). (Runner-Up: Sora from Kingdom Hearts)

Best Returning Character?
Samus Aran.

Best Developer?
Konami, for Contra: Shattered Soldier (Runner-Up: Nintendo)

Best Peripheral?
The Steel Battalion controller. (Runner-Up: the E-Reader)

Worst Game of the Year?
Legion: the Legend of Excalibur for PS2. Ugh.

Worst New Character?
Lucy from Whacked. Or Zapper, who is, we are told, "One Wicked Cricket!" I hate Dr. Muto too, even if he looks vaguely like Dr. Forrester from MST3K.

Most Disappointing?
Metal Slug 4. It's a good game, but it isn't what I expected.

What games should be in the TOP 10?

1. Metroid Fusion
2. GTA: Vice
3. Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
4. Ikaruga
5. KoF 2000
6. Contra Shattered Soldier
7. Mega Man Zero
8. Metroid Prime
9. THPS 4
10. Madden 2003

Best System?

Tie between PS2 and GBA. So many good games on PS2, and GBA just for Fusion, HoD, and MM Zero alone.

Best Graphics?

Metroid Fusion. 2D games rule. I can't wait to play it on a big TV.

Best Soundtrack?

GTA Vice and THPS 4

Best New Character?

SA-X. Even though it's not really a new character, when that thing was around in Fusion, it was scary.

Most Disappointing?

MK Deadly Alliance. C'mon, only 1 fatality per character, no pits, that's just not right for Mortal Kombat. Oh well, I always have MK2

My Picks:

What games should be in the TOP 10?

1.Animal Crossing (GC)
2.Metroid Fusion (GBA)
3.Metroid Prime (GC)

7.Resident Evil 0 (GC)
8.Suikoden 3 (PS2)

Best System?

I have to go with the Gamecube here "even though I only have an Xbox." I think it made the biggest impact by far.

Blind Kenshi, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance- Multi-Platform

Best Developer?

UbiSoft

What games should be in the TOP 10?
Animal Crossing
Beach Spikers
Eternal Darkness
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Kingdom Hearts
Madden 2003
Metroid Prime
Red Faction II
Splinter Cell
TimeSplitters 2

Best System?
PS2 with a real good run by GameCube

Most Improved System? (yes I made this one up):
XBox. The good stuff finally started coming out near the end of the year with Splinter Cell, Mech Assault, and Steel Batallion.

Best Sleeper?
The Italian Job for PSOne. No one talks about it but it's a solid title, good price, and as flashy as anything the PSOne ever had.

Best Graphics?
Splinter Cell

Best Soundtrack?
Tony Hawk 4

Best New Character?
Nook from Animal Crossing, or perhaps Mr. Resetti, a brilliantly conceived character.

Best Developer?
Activision

Best Peripheral?
The e-Reader. So much you can do with it!

Worst Game of the Year?
I haven't returned a game all year but Hooters Road Trip is still in my collection only because it's SO bad.

Most Disappointing?
Toe Jam & Earl. It was one of the two titles I played at E3 that made me go buy an Xbox (the other was Splinter Cell). Almost seems as though the E3 version was the complete one and the final release was the work in progress. What the hell happened?
