Dumb X-box question....

I might be getting an X-box today. Do I need a memory card? I've heard that it has a built in hard drive or something.

Yep it has a hard drive built in that you save all your games/music etc to. If you want to take your saves and use them on another machine you'll need a memory card.

interestingly enough most games only allow hd saving so the memory unit was pretty much rendered useless

I'd imagine that you can transfer saves from the hard drive to a memory card using the Xbox dashboard. So it might not be necessary to save to a memory card straight from a game anyway, just another step that you have to put up with though.
